An absolutely remarkable mix of memoir and dissertation on substance abuse and creativity. Jamison also expounds on the socioeconomic forces that influence our country‘s approach to addiction and who we tend to see as victims vs. who we see as criminals. It is a VAST undertaking that I spent about a month with but it will stick with me far longer. 5⭐️ 👇🏼

Christine Ugh, this one was so good! ❤️ 19h
BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds like I must add to my TBR. 19h

Third in his Rivers of London series. I liked it a little less than the first two. I don't know if it's because the plot was all over the place with no real villain or if the pace was off. It just felt like it was slightly off course for a Peter Grant novel.
Second time around I liked it more. Insights of the next books makes it better. Also, i enjoyed the architecture bits so much this time. #booked2019 #POCparanormal #fall

Cinfhen Nice choice!! I‘ve heard good things about this series 16h

That's over. I feel unfair reviewing a book that was absolutely sensational in 1895 by today's standards and my own preference. I can see how this was an amazing book in its time. I'm just not into the classics. #Booked2019 #Autumn #PublicDomain

Cinfhen Sorry we tortured you 😜 1d
IamIamIam @Cinfhen It's okay! It's not like I chose to read Ulysses or anything!!! 😂😂 This was kind of like a literary mammogram. It's kind of annoying and painful but you can deal with it and maybe treat yourself to ice cream afterwards. LMAO 1d
IamIamIam @Cinfhen And I totally could have skipped it but I love you guys too much to do that!!! LOL 💜 1d

BarbaraTheBibliophage Literary mammogram—I‘m glad you read the book, checked off the prompt, and omg, we need to start using that hashtag A LOT. 🤣🤣 19h

I think I'm just not made for books that were written before 1940. Guy goes 800,000 years into the future, there are cute people, his machine is missing and he has a tantrum. I think that's the gist so far. It feels like I'm listening to this in a foreign language... 🤨😖😴

AthenaWins Ha! Yes. And it's usually super dry. I read From the Earth to the Moon by Jules Verne and man I'm glad that was a short one. I'm happy I read it, but it was a struggle. 1d
Cinfhen I feel your pain!!! Although I did enjoy 1d
IamIamIam @AthenaWins I'm totally zoning out and when I snap back, I'm so confused! Haha! 1d
IamIamIam @Cinfhen I had a hard time with that also but I think that's because everyone was so prissy... LOL, I read half of it and there was too much fretting for me! I know there was a war on and I was probably just being insensitive but... you know... LOL, I am in the middle of Monte Cristo in Serial Reader but the wait for the audio is, like, 3 months! 😖 1d

It's difficult to express in a few characters why I hated this book so much so here goes: a stupid heroine who we're supposed to believe makes good decisions but actually makes every situation worse. A cookie-cutter supporting cast. Cliched dialogue with overly-long history lectures. The botching of a needed book on a vitally important topic.

Cinfhen Thanks for your honest review. Disappointing that this book missed its mark. 2d

Unpopular opinion. This started out quite intriguing and then fell flat for me. Jane is badass, no doubt, and the narrator was awesome. I think it may have been just me wanting more zombie 😂 Will still read the sequel though.

Tempest Landry is mistakenly killed by police in harlem,on reaching St Peter at heaven's gates his sins are such he must go to hell, he refuses + returns to earth in new body where joshua angel has to persuade him to accept his sins to save order whilst basel bob tries to draw him to hell. Philosophical, interesting + funny a gr8 addition to 2019's rds

TrishB Sounds interesting and I‘ve not read one for this prompt yet! 3d

This book is so dense and so gut wrenching that I couldn‘t read it straight through. At almost 500 pages, every page was difficult to read. There were a lot of lesser known shootings, and I was especially riveted by those pre-Columbine, during a time school shooter hadn‘t yet entered our vernacular. #publishedin2019 #booked2019

Cinfhen This one sounds really painful to read 💔 4d

I listened to this on audio and it encouraged me to de clutter and pitch stuff, so that‘s a win. 😆 The lesson that resonated with me the most was to buy things you need, and not for the person you want to be. I find myself buying things to fit a persona that I want to emulate, so that has been in the back of my mind. Since the author deals with addiction to alcohol and shopping, I‘m counting this for #booked2019 #bookaboutaddiction

vkois88 I want to read this but I feel like I need to buy it... which means breaking the main rule ??? That's what kills me about these types of NF "self-help" books. Otherwise, I'd definitely be interested. 4d
Reviewsbylola 😆😆 I borrowed it through my library so I didn‘t have any guilt. But the author did denounce book buying and that I could never do. 😱😱 @vkois88 4d
Cinfhen Interesting / how true about our need to “Dress to Impress” ~ as I get older, im getting better about falling into that designer addiction/ I care much less 4d

charl08 Well I was tempted until I read about the book buying... 4d
Mdargusch Very interesting. Too bad amazon is just so easy. 3d
Zelma I really liked this book. Less as a decluttering book and more about a memoir on grief and addiction. It totally worked for me and I wish it had been marketed as such. 3d

19 soldiers story - jenny clegg is truly a soldier of the suffragette army from posting herself to 10 downing st, disrupting a church service and society meal, to the brutality of treatment in prison and force feeding. I loved this bk, written in 1911 is a picture of history told with passion as it happened. This should be on the school curriculum as seems as relevant today as then.
