A Place for Us: A Novel | Fatima Farheen Mirza

I was absolutely gutted by this beautifully written, many layered book about an American family who is Indian-Muslim. About the struggles families have concerning the preservation of family, tradition, and culture versus the self. Rafiq and Layla raise their kids Hadia, Huda, and Amar, the best they can and as we all know, no one can ever really know how things will turn out with your kids. Pick!

JennyM This was a beautiful read. It‘s stayed with me ♥️ 4h
Reggie @JennyM I had to put it down sometimes and let out a breath I didn‘t know I was holding in. So good. 4h

I really enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera. I've seen a few of the movies that have been made from it over the years & the book is really better. I love how its narrated by the author & presented as a real event that had occurred 👻

Cinfhen Great!!! If you check that hashtag on Litsy you‘ll see what others read!! I know a few people read & enjoyed The Circle and 9h
BarbaraTheBibliophage The cover is gorgeous! And I agree, check #socialmedia and #socialmediafocus. There have been a variety of choices, but The Circle and You have been popular. I think I may read 1h
4thhouseontheleft I read this for #socialmediafocus. It is not a stand alone FYI. 51m

This book was beautifully written. It was so fun imagining this hotel and all the guests. I give it 4 ⭐'s only because the greek mythology intertwined into the story just wasn't for me, but otherwise a very enjoyable read.

#blameitonbooked2019 #booked2019 my first completed read for Spring- food on the cover. I LOVED this book. It was on audible. There were snippets I did not love, but over all- a story within a story. Trigger Warning: the hard parts were food descriptions, since I‘m Vegan. Some of the descriptors hurt my heart. I kept thinking “I wish there was a vegan book like this”

DivineDiana I think that could be a new genre! 🤔 14h
Chrissyreadit @DivineDiana vegan fiction? If so 🥰🥰🥰🥰 14h
DivineDiana Yes! I would definitely support! 13h

Chrissyreadit @Cinfhen a new sub genre: vegan fiction 13h
Dolly I‘m convinced Reichl will eat anything. I liked her early memoirs much better : Comfort Me With apples and Tender At the Bone. (edited) 12h
Cinfhen #VeganMemoirs @DivineDiana @Chrissyreadit and I‘m sure @TrishB would be interested!!! I read this one by Reichl and it was also very good 9h
Cinfhen I listened on audio and it was read by author. Free from Hoopla 9h

Well, that's done. Mostly, we see how accessible we are via social media, everyone has secrets... oh and lots of sex. So uncomfortable... I don't get the whole #TeamJoe thing. Those people have a lot of issues to work out!!! This was kind of like American Psycho Lite.
Finished out my prompts for:

@Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

BarbaraTheBibliophage Good job on making it through, despite the discomfort. 👊🏻📚♥️ 13h
Cinfhen I thought this book was really disturbing BUT I couldn‘t put it down!!!!! I loved it although I couldn‘t get through the Netflix series 9h

Tanisha_A I watched the series, and yes I hate that man! 9h
Soubhiville Yep, I‘m with you and @Cinfhen ! 8h
Cinfhen Did u watch the series @Soubhiville ?? Joe was too likable and Beck was kind of annoying me 😬so I thought I should just let it be and live with the book. Also did you read 8h
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m really debating ... this one is on my shelf and I wonder what I‘ll think. Maybe after Mr. B comes back from his upcoming trip. Wouldn‘t want to read it alone in my house! Right? @cinfhen @soubhiville (edited) 1h
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I tried! I think I watched 3-4 episodes before I was too creeped out to continue. And I didn‘t feel it gave quite the same impression of Joe as the book. I haven‘t read any of her other books yet. Worth it? 47m
Soubhiville @BarbaraTheBibliophage I would not read this when home alone! 47m
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Soubhiville 👊🏻😱 Thanks! 41m
Cinfhen Hidden Bodies was not as good as YOU but I‘m happy I read it. I hated her newest book @Soubhiville 36m
Cinfhen I was gonna say go for it @BarbaraTheBibliophage because you‘re my #RebelReader 😎♥️ 35m
Soubhiville Lol @Cinfhen and @BarbaraTheBibliophage , I may be wimpier than you! If I‘d read You while home alone, I would have been incredibly paranoid that someone was following me or especially trying to watch me through my windows! 33m
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Soubhiville @Cinfhen I dunno. This one might make me #lessofarebel. And it‘s no hardship to wait a week. 🤪 17m

For my clifi category i chose this excellent book which expands on the story begun in oryx and crake with the story of how 2 women, drawn into the semi religious environmental group 'gardeners' experience the disaster caused by corprations experimenting with the gene pool of animals, humans and plants. I had forgotten much of bk 1 but having recapped was totally absorbed in the world very quickly in a thrilling read. Maddadam awaits.

Blaire This is my pick for this prompt as well. 15h
rwmg Did you know Youtube and Spotify have the Hymnbook of God's Gardeners? 12h

I was in the mood for something light and fluffy, and this fit the bill. Not perfect, but fun and entertaining for sure!

And since a major catalyst for the action involves a video going viral on social media, I'm going to stretch and claim it for #Booked2019 - Social Media focus 😁
@Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen It‘s been claimed and processed!!!! 20h

This has been on my tbr for so long and it felt like the right time to read it after reading Swan Song. I do love Capotes writing but the story itself didn‘t really grab me. It didn‘t feel very memorable. I actually preferred House of Flowers that‘s included in the book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #foodorbeverageoncover #booked2019

Cinfhen Still need to read this book!! Hey @shawnmooney @LeahBergen are you guys down for another novella buddy read??? I‘d love to read this one with you two 👉🏼 (edited) 20h
britt_brooke I read this a couple of weeks ago and agree. Capote‘s writing is beautiful, but I didn‘t like this story. 20h
