A psychological horror with a literary twist, Kill Creek delivers elevated prose, while evoking the unnerving, atmospheric terror essential to greats like Peter Straub and Stephen Kinga haunting that lingers long after turning the last page.

@Yuki_Onna BUNNY!!💕💕💕

1. Just started Kill Creek!! Recommended by a local bookstore clerk😊

2. Home Before Dark by Sager!! No surprise 😂

3. Honestly, whatever jumps out at me! Sometimes I‘ll have a book in mind, other times I‘ll see a review of a book that‘s on my list and go there next - sometimes it‘s a new TBR addition that can‘t wait 😂

Yuki_Onna Ohh, I have heard good stuff about Kill Creek! And Home Before Dark is on my TBR! (I only own it as an ebook (which I tend to avoid and only binge when the reviews are due), that's why I haven't devoured it yet...💕🐇 2w

TW: Fatphobia, tokenism. And now that the truly ugly shit this book contains has been revealed...dammit, I admit I like a lot of what the author did. He took his time establishing mythology around the location, went beyond the hook in the synopsis. Gave me some good, complex people, secrets not too sensationalized, bits of hope and dread. I'll never be satisfied by a work of horror that is just 'everybody dies,' ; fits pretty well into my niche.

I want to read this book but have been unable to obtain a copy. Everywhere I look it says temporarily out of stock. Anyone know why?

mdm139 There are paper shortages and publishers are prioritizing new releases and scheduled print runs for the holiday season. It is a good book though. 9mo
Blueroseis The Book Depository in the UK has it in stock with free Worldwide delivery including the USA if that helps. 9mo

A web phenom invites the top horror writers in the country to spend Halloween night in a supposedly haunted house as a publicity stunt. But it's not until they return home that the true horror starts.
This one has it all - psychological, supernatural, paranormal & more. And it's done REALLY well. The writing is strong, the characters realistic, motives, backstory & plot expertly crafted to deliver a powerful gut-punch of toe-curling terror!

I‘ve owned this Audible book for an embarrassingly long time—but this was the year it made my spooky-reads October list!

Although it‘s not super plausible, and some of the writing/character choices were a bit too ‘a man totally wrote this‘ for my liking, I did enjoy the premise of famous authors at a haunted house event, the book was genuinely scary, and that ending was *chef‘s kiss* horror finery.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bookzombie I agree with you about the ‘a man totally wrote this‘ feeling, but I still really enjoyed this one too. 9mo

You know how you pick up some books and they turn out to be exactly what you want right then but you didn‘t know? That‘s what Kill Creek was for me. I was creeped out and absorbed. I stayed up late reading one night and had to watch a YouTube video before I went to sleep. I stopped reading it before bed, lol. I felt invested in the characters and what would become of them. I thought it was perfect for #Screamathon and really enjoyed it.

This book has everything - psychological thriller and gothic horror. Stephen King would like this book. A book worthy of the freezer. Loved the twist ending. There is a lot of #mystery around this haunted house full of #ghosts. It would make a good movie. October is off to a good start. Honestly the first half went pretty well, which is why 2 stars, but the second half fell into messy tropes. This book wasn‘t sure what it wanted to be a cerebral and unsettling horror or just a splatter fest. Very unbalanced and annoying. I didn‘t really enjoy it or care about the characters. I cannot recommend

This was definitely a slow burn that dragged at times however the writing, plot and character work was truly great and helped power me through. My main takeaway is that you can truly tell this was a love letter to not just the horror genre, but to the authors of horror. Also that twist ending was perfect!

3.5 ⭐️. This book takes you for a ride. What starts out slow and almost philosophical turns into a fast paced tale after 4 authors spend the night inside the house on Kill Creek. With a big focus on the power of storytelling this book was a quick and entertaining read for me.

116 of 2020. A guy who runs a website dedicated to the horror genre invites four successful horror authors to participate in a unique interview experience. This experience unknown to the authors turns out to be spending a night in a haunted house where the interview will be held. The premise of this story is intriguing. There are great characters in this book with their own stories to tell. I loved this book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed with this one after hearing so many good things about it. I thought it was slow and took a long time to get the plot moving. The most exciting part was in the last 50 pages or so and with a 416 page book that was way too long to wait. It's well written, interesting take on the 'haunted house', good twist at the end, but it just completely missed the mark for me. #magicalreadathon #doublespin #bookspin

If it would be plausible that your only strong-female-character would tear out your spinal cord through your throat and then make you floss with it for your portrayal and over-sexualization of her, then you may want to...not try to write female characters? Like, ever? Maybe give up the writing and just have ghostwriters who can take your ideas and make it so I don‘t have to take a silkwood shower for the violence I want to be wrought upon you?

batsy Omg! Thank you. I hated this aspect of the book & it baffles me that so many positive reviews just ignore that. 3y

It was so scary I couldn‘t read a lot at a time. I had to take breaks it was so intense. Four famous authors go to a supposed haunted house for a live interview and what happens after is actually where it all kicks off. At first it was a little slow but then once it got going it didn‘t stop for one second. It‘s going to be a tv show on Showtime and I‘m so amped!!!!!

Quitting 54 pages in. Just too overly descriptive for me to wade through 400 pages when I don't even want to pick it up. Not to mention the 2 of 4 authors I was introduced to in that span of time were just annoying. I was gonna try to make it to at least 100 pages, but I just don't care. Too many books on my TBR for that. Not for me.

Horror no longer goes bump in the night. Horror stuffs the bodies of dead hookers in his crawl space and then pulls a twelve-hour nursing shift taking care of your sick mother. Horror stays awake at night dreaming up ways to hurt you and your family and everything you hold dear.

I‘m torn between so-so and a pick but I‘ll go with pick just because it is a good read for spooky season. It‘s very reminiscent of Stephen King, but without the character development that makes you care what happens to them. Haunted house stories are fun, and this a pretty typical one - a little too predictable though - I was hoping for a good scare and was disappointed.

batsy Yeah! I'm a wimp about horror in general and even I found the ending to be a disappointment. Which surprised me, lol. 3y
