“Good night, chère Madame. Lady Macbeth and Narcissus. It has been remarkably interesting. I have to thank you for bringing it to my notice—“
“That‘s right,” said Mrs. Oliver in an exasperated voice, “blame it all on me as usual!”

Another great Poirot mystery that was fun to follow along with and try to solve. I haven't watched the new adaptation yet but from the description I've read it seems completely different from the original story...
#SeriesLove2024 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView
The newest Poirot movie was based on this, but very little of the story remained the same. This one didn't hold my attention like others in the series. A young girls is killed after claiming to have witnessed a murder, but everyone says she was a compulsive liar. Poirot works with a famous author to try to solve the case. Not a bad mystery, just missing some of the urgency in Christie's others.
One of her later novels (published in 1969), Christie hauls out Poirot from her bookcase of detectives to solve the mystery of 13-year-old Joyce's death, an annoying girl who is drowned in a bucket while bobbing for apples at a Halloween Party. Even Poirot seems a bit hackneyed on this job. A semi-enjoyable and fast read, but not one of Christie's best. The ending also was too abrupt, like she was hurrying to meet a deadline. A low pick. 3.5/5.
And just like that, Halloween and #Scarathlon are over for another year. It was a great month!!! My points post will come later today! 🎃 #scarathlonphotochallenge #halloween #blackcatcrew
I finished this #scarathlon #hhc #buddy read. It did take me a few weeks- because I‘m slow reading these days, but I enjoyed it very much! I like the way Poirot seeks information, and was ultimately very surprised by the ending. (also @wanderinglynn I use this mug often 🖤🖤🖤)

One of her later, weaker books Too many extremely similar speeches by different characters who all seem to have the mindset of an elderly person frightened by the changing world.

She really stumped me with this one—I had no clue who it could be till the end! Not my favorite, but very good, of course. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
umm while i love Poirot i find myself bored more often than not 😅 this would be better as a podcast

Finally finished this team read! Moved a little slow to me overall and definitely had to be paying attention. I did enjoy Poirot‘s character and I still want to watch the movie. I think we all felt similarly.🤷🏻♀️#scarathlon #hhc
The mystery of this one I thought was going to be compelling - but it feel quite flat and far fetched as we reached the ending. It was darker than earlier Christie‘s - the victims, largely ignore as is usual, but being children this seemed so much more callous.
Cute book to read around Halloween and get a mental thrill from Christie‘s detective story. If you enjoy tracing through the wires and theories of detective stories then this is the book for you as always in the Hercule Pirot mystery books.
New book review up! Click the link to see what I think of this book.

This is a low pick for me-definitely not my favorite Christie. Still interesting with lots of twists and secrets.
This was a reread for me. Even though it‘s not my favorite Christie, I love the non American Halloween traditions you get a glimpse of here! #scarathlon #skeletoncrew @Emilymdxn
When a young girl claims to have witnessed a murder, & then is found killed, a lot of old secrets are unearthed & Poirot & Ariadne Oliver are on the case.
It‘s a shame that this is 1 of the few Christie novels I saw the Suchet movie first, because it‘s a good mystery. It‘s pacing is a little off, & there are so many characters, & mysteries upon mysteries! 😅But a clever twist I didn‘t predict, & I love Ariadne as a character. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
This was ok. Not that thrilling or engaging, but a quick read. I saw the movie first, it is completely different and much more fun. I would watch that and skip this one. 3⭐️

I had guessed the who and the why, but needed Poirot to spell out the how of it all. Another enjoyably twisty mystery from the queen of the genre.
I‘m finishing up our team‘s buddy read on this wonderfully chilly morning and my cozy sweatshirt happens to fit photo challenge prompt 7: “pumpkin.”

Forgot to review Hallowe‘en Party last week! It was another solid Poirot mystery, where the solution comes not from physical evidence but from keen analysis of the characters‘ behaviors, histories, and their essential character. Published in 1969, this one features Agatha‘s perspective on the fashions of the day — both sartorial and psychological. Excellent read.
I read the book out of order in my somewhat intermittent read through Dame Agatha's works before seeing the film. I needn't have bothered. The film bears little if any relation to the book apart from there being a children's Halloween party and some of the characters' names. I don't see why they didn't make a film from scratch as an original Poirot story
Two titles - same book. I saw the movie last week.

The hubs and I went to see this tonight. It was so so good! I read this book last year but it must not have made much of an impression 🤣 I didn‘t remember any of it! Highly recommend!
An enjoyable adaptation that‘s perfect for Fall and any Littens doing #scarathlon
During the preparations for a halloween party, a child boasts of having once seen a murder without realising at the time what was happening. By the end of the party she's been drowned in the bucket used for 🍏bobbing. Ariadne Oliver, a guest, asks Poirot to investigate.
As usual I had no idea who the murderer was until Poirot told us. What struck me most was the continual laments from the characters about how awful life was nowadays (the 1960s).
