1) Jury's still out on a tree because cat, but we'll do some other indoor decorations.
2) The Moravian Star and candles in the windows.
3) I'm all in on the a capella: Straight No Chaser, Pentatonix, and my friends' semi-pro group Keystone A Capella - you haven't heard "Santa Baby" until you've heard it sung by a bass (miss you, Gooch!)

I had yet to read this one by Christie, so I was so glad the #GoldenAgeCrimeClub read this one this month! I‘m a few days late finishing!

Christie crafts such a dramatic, edge on your seat opening scene, that the reader has to find out what happens. As usual, Christie introduces clues and red herrings to keep one guessing. So good! #192025 #1957 #52BookClub23 #TimeInTheTitle

kwmg40 That opening scene is incredible! 4h

This was a good one. It had me guessing right to the end. If you like Poirot mysteries this is a good one to read. I love them all so I might be bias, however I flew through this one so quickly. It was a very quick read. Also I just read that John Malkovich does a mini series with this book. Might try and watch it. PS. Love this old book cover.

Hey everyone, sorry haven‘t been active the last week or so. I was traveling, and then we had the Thanksgiving holiday here so I have fallen behind on reviews as well as discussion posts. Hope everyone enjoyed Absent in the Spring as much as I did! Just a reminder that our #LMWBR book for December will be The Rose and the Yew Tree. Start looking for a copy! I‘ll plan the discussion for Dec 16. #MaryWestmacottBuddyRead

Ruthiella I‘ve already started reading it! 😂 2d

A book of short stories of Poirot Investigating different situations. It didn't really keep my interest but I thought the next story would be better. I kept reading it and finally finished it.

Rex Fortescue collapses and dies in his office, poisoned with taxine from yew trees. Within a few days his wife and maid are also killed. Baffled, the police ask Miss Marple to infiltrate the household.

I fastened on the wrong suspect fairly early on. No little grey cells or village experience to help me out. Sigh.

I used this #goldenagecrimeclub choice for prompt #6 (cozy mystery) of the #CloakandDaggerChristmas challenge.

This was a reread and I listened to the audiobook narrated by Emilia Fox this time around. An excellent Miss Marple mystery with one of the best opening scenes ever for a murder mystery!

What Mrs. McGillicuddy Saw! | Agatha Christie

I would definitely put this in my top ten of Agatha Christie‘s books. The intro is fabulous, the characters of varying degrees of likability, and a very complex mystery. The combination of her prose and the many films that share a similar trope, made the whole novel feel cinematic. I‘m so glad I reread this for @Mitch ‘s #goldenagecrimeclub. (Also, my mom‘s collection has some of the best covers!)

kspenmoll Despite Mrs. McG‘s name in the title,I had to google this title; had no idea it was 3d
kspenmoll Thanks for hosting this monthly buddy read @mitch! 3d
DGRachel @kspenmoll So many of her books have different UK/US titles. I had to look it up when I went to pull the physical copy and couldn‘t find 4:50 on my Agatha Christie shelf. I know I have all of her books. It‘s just a matter of finding the alternate title! 3d

The Murder at the Vicarage | Agatha Christie

The first full-length mystery starring Miss Marple is a bit hit & miss for me. The main issue for me was that the book was told from the POV of an extremely boring character: the local vicar. Both he & his younger wife (& some of the other characters) were extremely rude about the older women of the village & it felt really uncalled for. Then I realised that Christie was showing us the disdain & dismissal that older women are viewed with.

OutsmartYourShelf The idea of a kindly looking octogenarian having one of the sharpest crime-solving brains & confounding everyone around her is brilliant, especially when they realise that they have to start taking her seriously.

I'm not sure whether Miss Marple is one of those characters (like Inspector Morse) that just seems to translate much better onscreen than in the original books. This one just scrapes a 'Pick' rating at 3.5🌟
