Nancy Drew 15: The Haunted Bridge
Nancy Drew 15: The Haunted Bridge | Carolyn Keene
11 posts | 21 read | 3 to read
Mr. Drew is on the trail of an international ring of jewel thieves and asks Nancy to assist him. The trail leads to a summer resort area. Before Nancy has a chance to start work on her fathers case, a golf caddy tells her a frightening tale--in the dense woods nearby is an old wooden footbridge guarded by a ghost! Intrigued by the caddys story, Nancy decides to investigate. Several riddles confront the young detective as she attempts to solve the mystery of the haunted bridge and track down a woman suspected of being a key member of the gang of jewel thieves.

These are some of the first mysteries I remember reading as a child. I love the cover of The Haunted Bridge, but I'm pretty sure it gave me nightmares (it still might!) I really want to reread these, along with my other Nancy Drew books & Trixie Belden. #ReadingResolutions #MysteryMonday

I picked up the 1937 edition on the left the the other day. I wanted to compare the text, as I've heard they were somewhat rewritten in later editions. I read the first chapter of the original, then read the first chapter of the 1972 edition. Very different! The gist was the same, but it was certainly a more substantial rewriting than I was expecting! Now I'll have to read all of each of them to find out how the rest was changed!

staci.reads Neat editions! I've always been curious about that too. I've heard some titles were much more extensively rewritten than others. Did the changes in yours seem to be changing the plot or updating settings? 2y
mabell @staci.reads Thanks! So far it was the same plot, but almost all the text had been rewritten. The beginning started in a different place than in the original. The "ghost" rumor is introduced immediately, instead of finding out about it further into the chapter i.e. the newer one starts with a bang ? 2y
batsy Oh, that's so interesting! I've never read the originals, as it were. I think it was after the second editions that the books were sold internationally... 2y

mabell @batsy I haven't read any either! The reprints are far more common, so that is what most of my collection is. It's fun comparing the two and seeing what was changed 😊 2y
Gissy I want Nancy Drew collection! Some day! 👍 2y

My mom has been collecting these old Nancy Drew hardbacks and whenever I find one I think she might not have and it's not crazy expensive, I grab it. Going to give them to her when she visits for Xmas.

Thanks for the awesome #bookstack #giveaway @Liberty 😄😄 #bookfriday2017

Published in 1937, The Haunted Bridge is perfect for today's #uncannyoctober prompt: published in the 1930s. I must be the only person who doesn't own The Grapes of Wrath 😂

First: I love Madeline!
Second: I color for ZEN.
Third: I really wanted a book sleeve !
Fourth: I am terrified of bridges: walking or driving over them, so the book is funny.
I love the game scrabble. I fell in love with my hubby over a scrabble board. BUT the Snow White bracelet 😭 my sister died at 5 years old in June 1976, her favorite movie Snow White. It's like she's saying hello. 💗 @mrsamandahood #homemadedecades

mrsamandahood I am so glad to hear you love everything. I can't express how sad I am to hear about your sister. But it's sweet to hear you say it's like she's saying hello. My Lolo (grandpa) passed away when I was 10 and he loved ladybugs, so whenever I see one I feel like he's saying hello to me too. Hugs to you. ❤️ 3y
mrsamandahood Sorry about the book! I am terrified of heights so I get it! So sweet about your husband and you, makes me happy to hear that. I recently discovered book sleeves and now I'm obsessed. Glad to hear you love coloring too! Very relaxing! ☺️ (edited) 3y
TheBookHippie @mrsamandahood no worries: I tutor and mentor reading full time, the kids will be thrilled to see a new book in my library :) Time is a great healer of grief the bracelet gave me such joy, I will so love wearing it and thinking of when we saw Snow White in the theater together and how scared we were of the witch 😂😂😂😂 good memories 💗 3y

There are dozens of Nancy Drew books and have 54, so I grabbed one to represent for #favbookishfriendships who are Nancy, Bess, and George. I will include Ned Nickerson as well since he is more on the scene than Bess and George's beaux.

MrBook Love this pic. 3y
