I just spent a month at Manderley…

This is a reread for me, and while I did not remember every twist and turn, I do remember the creepy vibes from this. It‘s a level of creepiness that slowly enfolds the reader and can make one shiver. That Mrs. Danvers…oh my! Bookwormjillk I don‘t remember the ending being so abrupt. But maybe that‘s because I go back and re-read the beginning every time. Anyway I don‘t know if I‘d be so quick to take my husband‘s word that he murdered his first wife, but only because she was mean. Still a good read though. 6h

5feet.of.fury @Bookwormjillk right? It seemed like he had it well planned out, except for the sailing. He exploited the power dynamic enough in his relationship with the narrator that I can‘t fully trust his word. Only showing affection towards Jan once he confesses (seems to me to manipulate her loyalty), saying he likes how naive & innocent she is etc… 5h

TheAromaofBooks I'm with @Bookwormjillk - I'd forgotten how suddenly the ending comes. I actually feel like there are a lot of things between this and them living abroad as they are in chapter 1 that I would be interested to hear about haha 5h

Kicking off the #AwesomeApril readathon today by hopefully finishing these two books this weekend. After that, who knows? I can‘t decide if I enjoyed or am frustrated by the way the book leaves certain things open to inference & interpretation.

Also, side note, I'm just not sure what I would do if my husband confessed to killing his first wife, no matter how terrible she was. peanutnine The narrator is so desperate to be loved that she'll overlook some HUGE red flags. She's so worried about what others think of her, she can't imagine leaving him even for a good reason 1d

If Rebecca wants to off herself, go for it, but suicide by proxy totally makes her an #evilbitch And Jan staying with her husband who‘s perfect except for the whole I‘m a murderer thing is just nuts, like I‘m worried the girl has no basic self preservational instincts! 1d
