#MayBeNow

Reminiscing about the 2010s has happy and sad. All to the tune of social media like Pinterest and Litsy. I read more books about fantasy characters, especially vampires. We traveled to Hawaii, France, Hilton Head, Vegas, Nashville, and Seattle. I built my massage business (with great friends in the upper left). Our grandson graduated high school and our littlest granddaughter was born. ⬇️ More ...

BarbaraTheBibliophage But ... it was also a really tough decade. I battled Lyme disease, daily migraines, and had two brain surgeries. Thankfully, I am much improved health wise. But it sure gave me lots of time to read, because I wasn‘t very active. At the same time, my mom was quite ill for her last ten years and I was her main caregiver, albeit from a distance. We mourned her, and also our oldest granddaughter who was tragically killed in a car accident. ⬇️ 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I was really hoping the 2020s would be a happier decade ... not feeling it so far. How about you? 😰😷💪🏻 4y
DebinHawaii @BarbaraTheBibliophage It sure hasn‘t started out that way has it?! The early 2010s were good for me, that later not so much. Like you, I hope the 2020s turn around. 💜 4y

Maria514626 I‘m so sorry for your loss in the 2010s. The turn to 2020 started out merely OK. But the year‘s gone downhill fast. My mom is declining and the separation is taking a huge emotional toll. I listened to an Oprah webinar thing this morning. She asked what this moment is teaching us. That‘s a great question and I‘m sitting with it. The answers I find will be helpful! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DebinHawaii Yeah, the decade sort of went that way for me—up, way down, up. May the 2020s turn around—I think a lot has to do with November‘s results. 4y
DebinHawaii @BarbaraTheBibliophage And I am so sorry about your granddaughter and you mom. I lost my mom in 2015 and understand the pain. I‘m happy your health has improved. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DebinHawaii Thank you, my friend. I‘m sorry we have that loss in common. I‘m relieved to be relatively healthy going into this pandemic. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Maria514626 Oh, I‘m so sorry about your mom‘s health and the challenges of distance from each other. Many times, I‘ve said I‘m glad my parents didn‘t have to go through this pandemic. I think that question is worth pondering, for sure. We are learning many things we needed to and even more I wish we didn‘t have to learn. 4y
marleed I‘m so sorry about the loss of your granddaughter and then moving through illness with your mom. Positive thoughts toward your own improved health and finding light in this era of a pandemic. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @marleed Thank you, my friend. 💜 4y
Centique Sending love to you Barbara for the hard times and the losses 💕💜💕 I‘m glad also that my mum isn‘t here to be distressed by this pandemic. Here‘s to things turning around in 2020 and some good coming out of the bad 🙏🤞😊 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Centique Thanks—and to you, too. 💕 Yes, here‘s to things improving! (edited) 4y
peaKnit I‘m so sorry for your losses and struggles, also glad to see there were some sweet spots. ❤️ 4y
BarbaraBB You had a real tough 2010s, I‘m sorry to hear that. And to start the 20s with this... it‘s a challenge. Yet you often seem so strong and positive! I admire you and wish you all the best - also in November 💚🍀 4y
erzascarletbookgasm Here‘s to happier and healthier times in 2020s and beyond 💗 4y
Cinfhen Beautiful photos and bittersweet memories. A mixed bag of emotions but you‘re always inspiring and empowering 🙌🏻💕xx 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @peaknit Thanks, my friend. I‘m glad 2019 was a pretty good year, because 2020 isn‘t so much. 🤪 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @BarbaraBB Thanks, that‘s the sweetest comment. I really try to be positive and strong. Couldn‘t do it without my rock, Mr. B. We are definitely working however we can to make this election go better than the last. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @erzascarletbookgasm Amen, my friend! Wishing the same for you and yours! 💕 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Thanks, dear friend. You are the same—happy, fun, positive. We all try! 💕 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Some great memories, even the harder stuff you survived. I agree though, I was hoping for great things in 2020 and so far I‘m not feeling it either. 😕 4y

Finally I have come up with my #Top10ofthedecade
I only chose books published between 2009-2019 📚
9 of them were so easy to pick, the 10th gave me alot of grief! I couldn't decide between about another 10 books! I finally went with 'My life of rest and relaxation' because I have thought of this book often and it was so different and compelling.
I have absolutely loved looking at others lists so keep them coming! 💚
@Cinfhen

ljuliel Burial Rites was wonderful writing. You could actually feel the cold, smell the air, see the scenery , and feel the emotions going on in that small cabin. 4y
Rissreads @ljuliel Yes the writing was so beautiful 🧡 4y
Cinfhen I was gifted this book by @Hooked_on_books who really enjoyed it too ~ now I‘m even more excited to read it 4y
See All 10 Comments
squirrelbrain Great choices! I have Burial Rites on my list for #readingeurope2020 4y
Lindy My Year of Rest and Relaxation has really stuck with me too. 😊 4y
Hooked_on_books @Cinfhen I‘m pretty sure it would make my list, too. I was impacted by it in a rare way. 4y
JennyM Great list, Riss! 4y
Rissreads @Cinfhen It is such a fantastic book. Don't Google or read anything about it, just go into it blind. It will blow your mind! 4y
Rissreads Thanks @JennyM 😊 4y
Reggie Great list! I always love to hear when books stick with people. 4y

I think this is my completed list for #top10ofthedecade #fictionedition
I chose one Wendell Berry book because otherwise, my list would be mostly his books. Apparently, I had amazing reading years in 2017 & 2018 because I read most of these at that time. I chose 12 because I couldn‘t narrow it down anymore. I chose these because they‘re the ones that have stuck with me & that I have been passionate about for longer than a few days. @Cinfhen

Scochrane26 Honorable mention —The Song of Achilles 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Ready Player One almost made my list. I loved it. 4y
Cinfhen I read Posionwood Bible last year/ incredible!!!!!! Would be on my top 10 all time favorite list!! I haven‘t tried any Wendell Berry/ where should I start with the book you tagged??? 4y
See All 10 Comments
Scochrane26 @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I wasn‘t going to put it, but it was one I kept talking about for a long time. 4y
Scochrane26 @Cinfhen it doesn‘t really matter where you start w/ Berry. All the fiction books are connected. My friend suggested I start with The Memory of Old Jack. @ljuliel have recently had discussions about his books—I think she started w/ Andy Catlett or Nathan Coulter. She thinks most people like Hannah best. 4y
ljuliel @Cinfhen @Scochrane26 would certainly be more knowledgeable about Wendell Berry, being from his state. My favorite was Jayber Crow ( probably because it‘s the longest of the single- story books he‘s written. Most of his Port William books are told from the viewpoint of one person in the town. They all blend together to tell a bigger picture. i think ,for some reason, Hannah Coulter is very popular. Maybe because it‘s written from a female‘s view (edited) 4y
Cinfhen I just read the Kent Haruf trilogy so I wonder if Wendell Berry has the same feel ??? @Scochrane26 @ljuliel 4y
ljuliel Ummm.... well, maybe in one way ? They both write based on people and scenery. They both write pretty G rated material. They‘re both very good. There are a couple writers that remind me more of Wendell Berry. I would call Ivan Doig the Western Wendell Berry. I‘d call Howard Frank Mosher the New England Wendell Berry. If you‘ve read either of them, they all remind me of each other. @cinfhen. 4y
Scochrane26 @Cinfhen I haven‘t read that trilogy, but Berry has been a long-time advocate for small farming, environmental concerns, and being tied to your place & community. He has fought against mountaintop removal, strip mining, etc. his books are very slow-paced. He has referenced Walden in his essays. He‘s also a poet, so you get that feel of poetry in his prose. 4y
Cinfhen I‘ll see what my library has to offer / thanks @ljuliel @Scochrane26 (edited) 4y

I‘ve had so many things happen this decade. Graduated high school and college. Fell in love twice got my heart broken twice. Became a red head ❤️ came out to myself and to my circle. Lost religion found spirituality. Juggled careers and dreams and settled on books and libraries .
📚 the book that touched me the most was The Witch of Portobello by Paulo Coelho.
🖤The end of fear beginning of new growth!

Gissy Love your post❤️❤️❤️you have gained so much🙌👏👏👏👏 4y

Okay, I‘m doing it! I need to post this and get it over with before I change my mind again (for the 12th time). These are my #Top10oftheDecade #FictionEdition. I went with books published between 2010 and 2019, because most of my reading have been done in this decade anyway, so there were too many books to choose from otherwise 😅

And now I kinda want to reread them all. Maybe a plan for 2020? 🤔

AmyG A Little Life ❤️ That was my favorite of the decade. 4y
MicheleinPhilly I can‘t even begin to contemplate this. It‘s too stressful! 4y
Amiable I'm so glad to have discovered John Boyne in the past few years -- I am in awe of his talent. 4y
See All 22 Comments
ljuliel You‘re putting an idea in my head when you mentioned a plan for 2020. I‘m half tempted to make a 2020 list of everyone‘s combined lists they‘re doing in here, then pick entirely off it for the next year. I‘ll do some thinking on it. 🤔 4y
Cinfhen Ohhhh, Pachinko!!! I didn‘t see that coming!!! And a few people have chosen this one, that I wasn‘t familiar with 4y
Cinfhen That would be so interesting @ljuliel to see how many of the other‘s books you enjoy!!! 4y
Kalalalatja @ljuliel that could be fun! If you do make a list, please share! In 2018 (I think), I did a recommendations reading challenge, in which I had littens recommend me their must read books, and then I picked 25 from that list to try and read. I didn‘t finish, but most of the books I did read were amazing! 4y
julesG It's soooooo hard to pick just 10 4y
Cinfhen Also I love the cover for this book which im not familiar with Deathless 4y
ljuliel @cinfhen @Kalalalatja I‘ll see what I can come up with for a huge list. I think others might jump in on this yet. ( I hope) , that way we‘ll have an even bigger selection to choose from ! 📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖📖 4y
alisiakae Great list! 4y
alisiakae @ljuliel @cinfhen That‘s a fun idea, reminds me of a challenge earlier this year (last year?) where people swapped top 10 lists and read off each other‘s list for a month. I can‘t remember which Litten organized that. (edited) 4y
monalyisha @4thhouseontheleft It may have been me? I think the rules allowed a few more than 10 but that was the basic idea! I‘m organizing it again this year. #newyearwhodis 4y
alisiakae @monalyisha Yay! I didn‘t participate last time, but wanted to if you ever did it again! Was it a list of 20? Fuzzy memory 🤣 4y
monalyisha @4thhouseontheleft My memory is also fuzzy. I have a Google doc that I‘ll be leaning *heavily* on. 😅 (edited) 4y
BarbaraBB Such a great list Katja. I should definitely read the ones I don‘t know yet! 4y
Kalalalatja @AmyG it is just so good 💔 @MicheleinPhilly it helped me to set some “rules” like published in the decade, no graphic novels or poetry and so on. Maybe you could make your own rules? @Amiable me too! I just need to read more of his books 😊 @Cinfhen I loved Pachinko. I think I was my absolute fave of the year when I read it. And you know, I‘m a big fan of Sarah Moss Catherynne Valente, so I can highly recommend Bodies of Light and this 👉 4y
Kalalalatja @julesG I think I started with 30+ and then narrowed it down from there, but I had 3 I kept going back and forth on. It was so difficult! @4thhouseontheleft @monalyisha that seemed like such a fun challenge! @BarbaraBB thanks! I‘m so inspired by everyone‘s lists, my tbr is exploding! 😅 4y
rockpools ❤️ 4y
Rissreads I am loving reading all these lists. My tbr list is exploding but it's getting me excited about next year's reading! I've added a few from your post! 4y

#Top10OfTheDecade #FictionEdition

A sleepless night allright, here are my favorite 10 of the last decade. Or 12 🤫😂. Not all are published within this decade but I did read them between 2010 and now!

Cinfhen Oh WOW!!! Here I Am made your list!!! I‘m excited to read some of these especially the one that you gifted me. You‘ve actually gifted me a few from this list but I didn‘t love them as much as you did 😬😉😘Thanks for sharing, I feel like my reading card for 2020 is already FULL just from all these lists!!! 4y
BarbaraBB I remember that you didn‘t like Tin Man and Cassandra as much as I did. Did I send you more books mentioned above? In that case I hope you DO like them as much 😉😘 4y
TrishB Great picks 👍🏻 (edited) 4y
See All 31 Comments
Kalalalatja I see a few I plan on having on my list! I‘m working on it in between sessions today 😅 4y
Cathythoughts Nice picks. I loved The History Of the Rain too 4y
BarbaraBB @Cathythoughts I am happy to hear that. I always feel there are not many of us! 4y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja looking forward to it!! 4y
Hooked_on_books Totally agree with Home Fire. Phenomenal book. 4y
rockpools GWG almost made mine, but it‘s too soon - I feel I need to sit with it for a few months! Stacking the History of Rain, and despairing that I STILL haven‘t read Home Fire. 4y
Butterfinger I just want to cry every time I see Stoner's cover. 4y
britt_brooke Nice picks! I love Jonathan Safran Foer! I‘m reading his new nonfiction now. 4y
DGRachel Home Fire is on my TBR for January. I loved Stoner. It was a postal book club selection that I fully expected to hate, but absolutely fell in love with it! 4y
AmyG I need to post my list. Hooray for The Heart‘s Invisible Furies and Stoner. 4y
Megabooks Definitely took a screenshot for further perusal! 4y
fleeting Several in my tbr; glad to see them here! 4y
batsy Lovely selection! Sleepless night thinking, I hear you 😂 4y
merelybookish Oh, I totally forgot about Lucy Barton! But loved that one too! And Cassandra would make a list of favourite books published before 2010! 4y
merelybookish Also the Luminaries. 🙈 So many good books! 4y
KarenUK History of Rain, and Stoner have been unread on my shelves for too long.... knowing what book twins we are, they are #2020TBR for sure now! 💕😂 4y
BarbaraBB @KarenUK Lol I am 💯 sure that you‘ll love Stoner. I‘m not sure about History if the Rain 👯‍♀️ 4y
arubabookwoman I have Tin Man set to read in Jan. for LMPC, so I'm glad it's good, and I also have Go, Went, Gone, The Luminaries, & The Birds (loved The Ice Palace) on the TBR shelf. I also liked, Here I Am, Home Fire, & Cassandra. I was a rare reader not blown away by Stoner, maybe because I was expecting so much. (edited) 4y
arubabookwoman I don't think I'm going to be able to do a Top 10 for fiction. Until this year, I didn't read much contemporary fiction, usually only reading books that had been around several years and even longer. I would need to list at least 30 favorites, 10 contemporary, 10 classics, & 10 that have been around awhile but are not yet classics. 4y
BarbaraBB @arubabookwoman You can list 30! I‘d love to see your choices 😀. 4y
youneverarrived Some great ones here! And a few I really want to read. 4y
Liz_M @arubabookwoman Do it! I've listed the eight books I read this decade that blew my mind (all classics) and am thinking about a top ten published in this decade. 😆 4y
Liz_M I enjoyed Ice Palace more than The Birds and feel like I missed something in GWG -- I should have loved it, but was left a little cold. Maybe read it at the wrong time? Definitely intrigued by Home Fire (Antigone!) 4y
CarolynM See, Lucy Barton is one of the books I forgot yesterday (and Anything is Possible). I think I would have included Cassandra if I hadn't limited myself by publication dates. I have a copy of Here I Am, I need to move it up my mental priority list. 4y
samizdat have you read jenny erpenbeck‘s Visitation? it‘s wonderful! 4y
BarbaraBB @Liz_M I am looking forward to your 10 of the decade! I loved Ice Palace too but was blown away by The Birds. GWG broke my heart, maybe because I read it when the refugee crisis was at its height. And Home Fire/Antigone, yes 💔 4y
BarbaraBB @sthenia No but I will definitely look it up, thanks! 4y
Graywacke Great list...taking some notes. Loved Here I Am 4y

This was hard @Cinfhen - so many great authors I‘d like to include but I haven‘t read their latest books. Anyway these are all beloved by me 😍 If you can‘t see the one on the bottom right it‘s NK Jemisin‘s Hundred Thousand Kingdoms.

Anyone else keen to have a go? @batsy @Reggie @CarolynM @Ruthiella @JennyM @Cathythoughts @rohit-sawant

CarolynM This is really too hard! I can't remember all the great books of the last 10 years! I'll just have to go with the ones I do remember and assume they were the best. Then next week I'll remember something I loved and curse myself for not including it😂 4y
Centique @CarolynM exactly my thoughts! 😂🤣 4y
batsy Thank you for the tag! I'm with @CarolynM 😂 This is going to be so hard 😱 4y

Scochrane26 Song of Achilles ❤️❤️ 4y
Cinfhen I‘m so glad you‘ve shared your picks!! I‘m excited to add to my #TBR 4y
merelybookish Loved The Luminaries! Could've been on my list. 4y
JennyM I have my thinking cap on. This is going to be tough!!! But what a fantastic selection you have Paula! 4y
Ruthiella I‘m game! I love your list of ten! I‘ve read five of them and agree wholeheartedly!😀 4y
Cathythoughts Yes great selection ... I‘ve never heard of 3 of them .. but I‘ll be investigating 👍🏻❤️... thanks for the tag , I will start thinking ..... 🤔 4y
rockpools 8/10 of these are on my ‘I really should have read that by now‘ list! 4y
Centique @Scochrane26 I know right?!! I wept in that one 💔 4y
Centique @merelybookish I‘m so glad! I always find it hard to talk people into it but it‘s so good if you can get past the length of it. I miss being so absorbed in that world. Might see if there is an audiobook for a reread. 4y
Centique @JennyM @Ruthiella thank you both. I‘m so excited to see your selections! 4y
Centique @batsy I reckon! We might be better off doing the top 100 19th century novels 😂😂😂 4y
Centique @Cathythoughts I bet you‘ll have some great ones! 4y
Centique @RachelO oh wow! Isn‘t it funny how some books you never seem to get around to?! I think that when I look at everyone else‘s lists. ☺️ 4y
TrishB Loving these lists. Still no further forward with mine though. 4y
Centique @TrishB I just went with books I remembered loving and would like to revisit one day. I don‘t read a lot of contemporary fiction though so it‘s not as huge a range of choices for me! 4y
batsy @Centique Yes, now 100 is a reasonable number! 😂 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I included Murderbot & Achilles too, I also included a Jemisin too (just a different one) 4y
BarbaraBB Yay for The Luminaries. And I have The Garden of Evening Mists on my shelves. I‘ll bump it up my tbr! 4y
Centique @Riveted_Reader_Melissa that‘s so cool! I love all of those so much 😍 4y
Centique @BarbaraBB oh wonderful! I really hope you love it. 💕 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Anything NK Jemison is gold!! I went with The Fith Season, as it was the first of hers I read. 4y
saresmoore Well, I think you have excellent taste! It was your endorsement of All Systems Red on @ReadingEnvy that nudged me to finally read it, so thank you! 4y
ReadingEnvy I just don't know if I can do this. I've started a list but it's a matter of do I pick by the year I read a book or does it have to have come out that year, because I don't read that way.... 4y
ReadingEnvy But I can say in 2009, my top fiction that I read in 2009 is another Catton book, The Rehearsal. 4y
Centique @saresmoore oh thank you! That means such a lot coming from you - and I‘m so glad someone wanted to read All Systems Red after that chat 😍 4y
Centique @ReadingEnvy I know what you mean. I don‘t take any notice of publication date either - but I usually read back list, so books published in the last 10 yrs isn‘t a big pool of books for me. I just looked up the pub dates of lots of fav books until I got enough! 4y
Centique @ReadingEnvy I‘m going to have to put that Catton book high on my TBR then! I would love to see the top novels you read over the last ten years. Not a lot of ppl would have been recording their reading for ten years 😊👏👏 4y
ReadingEnvy @Centique I've logged every book since 2005! 4y
Lindy I haven‘t read Human Acts (yet!) & I‘m not much of a Seanan Maguire fan (even though I keep reading her for book club)—but the rest of your list are all 5-star reads for me. 👍 4y
Centique @Lindy yay I‘m so glad you liked so many of them! Seanan Maguire is to my taste but not to everybody‘s for sure. I would be so interested in what you think of Human Acts. It is a dark piece of history but the way it is considered from multiple points of view really worked for me. 😍 4y
Rissreads Great list. Some of these are on my tbr 😊 4y

Inspired by @Cinfhen — I started thinking about audiobooks that were spectacular in the 2010s. Here‘s my list of books where the narration enhanced the book, and just plain blew me away. All released in audio in the last decade (even though the Bradbury was published in print earlier). Anyone want to join me??

#audiobookedition #top10ofthedecade

Cinfhen Love This!!!! I‘ve only just started listening but I‘ll try to add my picks!!!! 4y
Scochrane26 I will post my list when I have some time to think about it. I agree w/ Trevor Noah & As you Wish—both would be on my list. 4y
Deifio Trevor Noah was good! Didn't read or listen ro the others. What did you like about the Princess Bride one? 4y
See All 27 Comments
alisiakae As You Wish would be at the top of my list if I did an audiobook edition! @Deifio Cary Elwes is the narrator and author, and he is so funny and fantastic. Plus, almost all the actors from the movie make an appearance on the audiobook. 4y
CarolynM I loved Alan Cumming's book ❤️ 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Yes, let us know. People who want to listen more are always asking “what‘s good?” so lists like this are great! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Scochrane26 Feel free to give me a tag—I‘d like to see what your choices are! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Deifio I agree with @4thhouseontheleft — it was the narrator, Cary Elwes. But they also have moments with many of the cast members, and that‘s priceless. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @CarolynM Broke my heart into a zillion pieces ... he is so good at storytelling and narrating. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great idea! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Looking forward to your list! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I already did my fiction and nonfiction...this is a great way to add some more books! 😂 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I saw those—but maybe didn‘t comment. I‘ve been struggling with the Litsy app and haven‘t been on as much lately. I get a 3-post feed and then *nothing* ... it‘s being discussed in the FB group but I haven‘t seen any change. Plus, all the holiday busy ... 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage I remember you commenting on the NF one, we read so many good ones... it was really hard to pick just 10! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage And I understand, it‘s been crazy busy here too lately. I had that trouble with litsy, then I deleted the whole app and redownloaded it, and logged back in...it seems better since then. 🤷‍♀️ 4y
Cinfhen How many hours was 4y
alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage The chapter about the filming of the Miracle Max scenes will still set me off laughing just thinking about it! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen It‘s 42 hours 59 minutes, but I was captivated. Here‘s my review: http://thebibliophage.com/book-review-shantaram-gregory-david-roberts/ 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Right, I did say something about your great NF list! I‘ll have to do that stuff with the app. Sigh. (But hey, it‘s ad free and costs 0, so I shouldn‘t b*tch!) 4y
Cinfhen OMG!!!! No way could I handle that! And just an FYI, I‘m pretty sure if you implemented the mute hashtag feature - it‘s the cause of the slow scroll and all the Litsy issues. Apparently certain hashtags are trending so heavily that there literally isn‘t any content for you to see and it‘s not refreshing your feed as often because most posts have that hashtag 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Hahaha. You‘re an audio lightweight! 😘😘🤪🤪 Your suggestion about the muring makes sense. I thought it only worked on the web site not the app, though. I‘ll unmute and see what happens! 4y
Cinfhen Let me know, im pretty sure that‘s the issue but I could be wrong. Now im trying to decide To Mute or Not to Mute 🤐 😝 4y
alisiakae @BarbaraTheBibliophage Unfortunately I think there is a glitch with the muting feature and that is what is causing the problems. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen I unmuted everything and now my feed is back to normal. I‘d say that‘s a vote for the glitch ... 😝 4y

Thanks for the tag @4thhouseontheleft I don‘t read a ton of nonfiction, so it was easy to pick my top 14 and not too hard to narrow that down to my #Top10ofTheDecade #NonFictionEdition. I could probably even narrow it down to Top 5 if I had to, but there‘s no way I could pick a favorite between Indianapolis and Born a Crime. The Lost Dogs is one that has stayed with me despite having read it before I kept records, so I had to include it.

DGRachel Oh, and there‘s no way I can do this for fiction I‘m not even going to try. 4y
AmandaL I loved Hyperbole and a Half! 4y
DGRachel @Cinfhen We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled made me cry. It‘s interviews with Syrian refugees and is heartbreaking. 💔 4y

After some agonizing thought I‘ve managed to come up with my #Top10ofTheDecade #FictionEdition
All these books I‘ve read and they were published between 2010-2019
These are the books that have stayed with me out of the hundreds I read. And one I actually hated but it earns a spot.
And yes, I posted 13 books ~ my three honorable mentions are: The Golem & The Jinni, A Brief History of Seven Killings and All Involved. They were THISCLOSE 🥰

squirrelbrain I think mine might have to wait for the weekend - I need a bit of brain space to fully consider this one.... although A Little Life is *definitely* on there, and possibly two or 3 others that you‘ve picked.... 😁👍 4y
Cinfhen Take all the time YOU want and NEED @squirrelbrain xxxxx 4y
TrishB Thinking, thinking, see you Sunday! 😘😘 4y
See All 50 Comments
TrishB Three of yours are potentials! 4y
Cinfhen Hehehe... Sunday can‘t come soon enough @TrishB 4y
MicheleinPhilly UGH! Don‘t make me choose, Cindy! 4y
Centique I love that there are a couple I haven‘t read and can put on my TBR 😍 4y
Kalalalatja I can‘t deal with this choice, it is beyond tough! I‘ll give it my best, though! 😅 4y
merelybookish I've been mulling this over since yesterday. Five-brainers but figuring out the rest will be hard! What is the one you hate? 4y
AnneCecilie This is going to be hard, but I‘ll make a list (eventually) 4y
Reagan What a great idea! 4y
BarbaraBB Oooh this is gonna be so tough! Love some of your choices. And am surprised to see A Brief History among them. What is the one you hated? 4y
Cinfhen I hated Fates and Furies @BarbaraBB @merelybookish but damn, that book has stayed with me! And looking back it was really quite clever (edited) 4y
merelybookish @Cinfhen Haha I hated that one too. And A Little Life. 🙈 4y
Cinfhen So I didn‘t LOVE A Little Life but it definitely was a book that consumed me and I‘ve never forgotten @merelybookish 4y
Cinfhen The MJ book was such an epic piece of writing @BarbaraBB and I really struggled with it but once I got into the language and figured out all the players, I was hooked!!! 4y
Amiable So much love for John Boyne! I'm so happy to have discovered him these past few years. 4y
Cinfhen I was wavering between Hearts and A Ladder @Amiable but Hearts for me, was a richer story 4y
merelybookish @Cinfhen I get it. Books we don't like can still leave a deep impression. 4y
Suet624 I've read almost all of these and agree that they were terrific books. I loved Fates and Furies and was always confused about readers reactions to it. I just don't even know if I could do this list. it feels so hard. :) But I do know that A Constellation of Vital Phenomena will always be on the top of my list. 4y
Amiable @Suet624 OMG, “Constellation” is the most wonderful book. I totally agree! 4y
Amiable @Cinfhen I agree —“Hearts” would be my pick, too 4y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I LOVED E&P also!! AND THIF!!❤️ (edited) 4y
Laughterhp I‘m thinking about splitting all my top 10 fiction into genre specific. Specifically for Romance, Mystery and Sci-fi/fantasy! 😬😬 4y
KarenUK We match 5/10! 💕 4y
rockpools Woah! Chunkster Alert!! 4y
Suet624 @Amiable Thank you. That book is living somewhere very close to my heart and I don't think I'll ever forget it. :) 4y
Bklover Some of my faves on here- I loved THIF and A Little Life. Oh, and All the Light We Cannot See!❤️❤️❤️ (edited) 4y
Bklover Uhhh.... and The Song of Achilles. 😉😘 4y
KarenUK Added This one to my #TBR... not even heard of it! 4y
Reviewsbylola Shit, ok, I‘ll try and do this tomorrow. But not gonna lie, I‘m already stressed. Thank GOODNESS F&F is on there because you hated it. I couldn‘t handle it if it was one of your favorites of the decade. 4y
erzascarletbookgasm These top ten lists are making my tbr wish list explode! 🧨 4y
JennyM This is going to be HARD!!!!! 4y
Scochrane26 It seems like everyone has listed Song of Achilles as one of the best. I agree. 4y
Cinfhen Ha!! That works @Laughterhp it is really hard if you think about books you LOVE/ if you think about books that left an impression it‘s a bit easier @Reviewsbylola @erzascarletbookgasm @JennyM 4y
Cinfhen Interesting @Scochrane26 that it‘s not Circe but Achilles that‘s making the lists!!!! 4y
Cinfhen My list seems to be lots of HF @Bklover @RachelO @JanuarieTimewalker13 which was my wheelhouse for most of the 2010‘s 4y
alisiakae Because I HATED Gone Girl, I assumed that was the one on the list you hated, not fates and furies! 😃 I actually haven‘t read some of these! And look at that YA book on your list! (E&P might make mine too). 4y
Cinfhen Ha!! Gone Girl was a groundbreaker @4thhouseontheleft the first thriller to really use the unreliable narrator troupe and I LOVED IT!!!!!! And I‘m counting E&P as historical fiction 😂😂at least from my perspective🤣😉😂 4y
britt_brooke Hearts Invisible Furies will be on my list FOR SURE! I loved All the Light We Cannot See, too. Several I haven‘t read, but are in my TBR (naturally, lol). I‘ll post mine later. 🤔🤔 4y
emilyhaldi Omg LOVING that F&F made the list!!! 😂🙌🏻 I want to take a stab at my top 10 this weekend but boy that sounds like a hard task. A Little Life def has to be on mine too... 4y
emilyhaldi Station Eleven kind of shocks me btw!!! I didn't realize this was a love for you! 4y
Cinfhen I DID LOVE station Eleven @emilyhaldi but not all of these books are necessarily favorites as much as books that left an impression/impact/ or gave me #AllTheFeels The more I think about book titles, I could easily add another dozen to the list 4y
Cinfhen I‘m super excited for your list @britt_brooke ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ 4y
monalyisha LOVED Station Eleven, loved Golem, & so much love for Rainbow Rowell. 💖 4y
8little_paws I'm currently reading Song of Achilles, and SWOON. OMG is it fantastic. 4y
Cinfhen I know @8little_paws SWOON is such a great word to describe that book 4y
Cinfhen I‘m waiting for the sequel to Golem @monalyisha !!!! 4y
readordierachel I almost put Golem and Eleanor on my list as well. Love your choices! 💕 4y

My #Top10oftheDecade #NonFiction edition. I have read all of these within the last three years, and while I might not have given all of these 5 stars when I read them, these are the ones I remember having the biggest impact on me.

Now it is on to the dreaded fiction list. I‘m not really sure I can make a top ten, but you can bet your sweet behind, that I‘m going to try! 😅

Mitch My TBR is loving this hashtag! 👍🏼 4y

At the beginning of this decade, I wasn‘t reading much nonfiction. Now it‘s about ½ of what I read! So, it was ridiculously hard to pick the #top10ofthedecade. These are those that affected me the most. But I might change my mind tomorrow! And, yes, that one in the bottom right is the one I self-published five years ago. That definitely affected me ... ?

#nonfictionedition @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Woohoo 🙌🏻 you need a blue author check by your name 💙 4y
Cinfhen I‘ve only read 2 of your choices 🙈NEED to add some titles to my upcoming 2020 reads!!!!! 4y
Mdargusch So many books on your list I‘m not familiar with! Thanks for so many great new titles to check out! 4y
See All 10 Comments
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I never even thought of getting that check, since I‘m really here as a reader, not author. Maybe I should ... 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Mdargusch @Cinfhen I definitely spent this decade reading a lot about illness and pain, since it reflected my own experience. I‘ve also loved so many books other folks have picked for their lists. But it is fun to put some different suggestions out there. If I was going to be the #rebel once more, I‘d add an 11th (audiobook, please) choice. 4y
Cinfhen Yes!!! Trevor wins my audiobook listen of the decade!!!!!! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great List! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I‘m working on an #audiobookedition of the best of ... Trevor is at the top! 4y
Lindy Great list! 4y

Most, if not all, of these are from the last year or two rather than the whole decade, but it‘s so difficult to choose!

There‘s a couple of others just bothering the edges of the top 10 and I have ‘H is for Hawk‘ and ‘Henrietta Lack‘ on my TBR shelf, which both appear to be favourites of many people.

#top10ofthedecade
#nonfictionedition

TrishB I‘ve read 2 of hours 😁 not a big NF reader! 4y
Cinfhen Another screenshot for me! With all the nonfiction I read, I‘ve STILL managed to miss SO MANY 😳😱 4y
Cinfhen I‘ve read 5 and 2 are already on my #TBR 4y

squirrelbrain @TrishB - I didn‘t used to read a lot of NF - #blameitonlitsy 😁 4y
squirrelbrain Which ones haven‘t you read @cinfhen? This one is definitely one of my favourites this year.... 4y
Cinfhen I haven‘t read the book you just tagged 👆🏽, Ghettoside, Dreyer‘s English, The period book and 4y
Cinfhen Ghettoside and Dryer‘s are both on my #ReadersRadar and so is Indianapolis 🤓 4y
squirrelbrain They‘re all fab @cinfhen. Of course they are, or they wouldn‘t be on my list! I‘ve only read a few of other people‘s lists - TBR is growing (again!)... 4y
DGRachel Indianapolis is so good. I‘m not a huge nonfiction reader, but I loved that one so much! 💖 4y
TrishB I actually put Period on my Christmas list! 4y
KarenUK Dryers English is on my #2020tbr ... it sounds awesome.... 💕 4y

Ok Littens, I‘ve given this A LOT of thought and I‘ve come up with my #Top10ofTheDecade #NonFictionEdition
These are the 10 books from 2010-2019 that left the greatest impression on me
Have you read these?? Do you agree?? PLEASE share your #Top10ofTheDecade #NonFictionEdition with me
I‘m still thinking of my ten fiction choices 😬I‘m tagging a random 10 friends to get this hashtag started but EVERYONE is encouraged to share their favorites❣️❣️❣️

Bookwormjillk The only one I‘ve read is Unbroken and I definitely believe it belongs there. 4y
britt_brooke This is a fabulous list! I‘ve read all except Behind the Beautiful Forevers, which I‘m now, of course, stacking. 📚😊 Fall and Rise will definitely make my list. I‘ll have to think this over. Thanks for the tag! 🤗 4y
Suet624 Trevor Noah, for sure. 4y
See All 48 Comments
britt_brooke I also really loved Evicted, The Trauma Cleaner, and Five Days at Memorial. 4y
Kimberlone Great idea! 4y
Booksnchill Oh, I‘ll rummage in my memory attic and post my list- how interesting! 4y
alisiakae I definitely agree with some of these that I have read: Henrietta Lacks, Just Mercy, and Trevor Noah. Maybe Beautiful Forevers, too. I need to do my list. 4y
TEArificbooks I haven‘t read all of these, but I personally love The Lost City of the Monkey God and Killers of the Flower Moon and The Feather Thief. 4y
squirrelbrain Gosh, that‘s very difficult! I‘ll have a think but so many to choose from.... 🤔 4y
Cinfhen I love that expression memory attic @Booksnchill I can‘t wait to see what treasures you find!!! I totally loved Lost City of Monkey God @mdm139 and Killers and Feather Thief were good too....what else would you add??!! 4y
Cinfhen I‘m looking forward to your lists @britt_brooke @4thhouseontheleft @squirrelbrain 10 years of books is a lot to unwind. 4y
Cinfhen Thanks @Bookwormjillk @Suet624 @Kimberlone I‘m sure I probably left at a few that I‘ll regret/remember later on 🤓Please share your lists or if nonfiction isn‘t your thing you could share the fiction edition!!!! I‘m still mulling that list over 🙄 4y
Soubhiville I completely agree with two of these I‘ve read- Born a Crime and Hunger. Now I have to add a bunch to my TBR 😁. I‘m going to think about my top 10 lists, but I‘m not sure I can narrow it down that much! 4y
Hooked_on_books Man, that‘s going to be tough! It could take me a while. I‘ve read 7 of these, all excellent. Just Mercy, Evicted, and Hunger are all likely to make my list. 4y
Kimberlone @Cinfhen I‘m going to have to think about it for awhile too! 4y
TrishB I‘ve read 3.5 😁 (good for me!) and have one on the pile! Members of Henrietta Lacks family were at my uni a few weeks ago for a conference on ethics and data! 4y
Lindy Nice list! The five of your choices that I‘ve read were 5-star reads for me: Behind the Beautiful Forevers; Immortal Life; Evicted; Trauma Cleaner; and Hunger. So hard to choose a top ten. 4y
Cinfhen That‘s cool @TrishB I‘m tagging you when I do the #Top10ofTheDecade #FictionEdition although I wonder if you‘ll be able to narrow it down!!!! 4y
Cinfhen I know!!! I tried to choose books that taught me something, interested me and stayed with me @Lindy @Soubhiville @Hooked_on_books but it‘s REALLY DIFFICULT to settle on 10! 4y
TrishB I‘m going to lose sleep over that! 😁 4y
Cinfhen Hahaha @TrishB I‘ve changed my fiction list a dozen times and I‘ve narrowed it down to 13 😅 4y
Mdargusch I‘m making my list now. Unbroken is one of my choices too! 👍🏼 4y
Kalalalatja Great idea! I‘ll have to think it over while falling asleep, like @TrishB 😬 4y
BarbaraBB Great list, although I don‘t read much NF. I loved The Trauma Cleaner and hated Hunger. I‘ll have to think of my fiction top 10, while falling asleep 💤 too! 💕 4y
Bookwormjillk @Cinfhen I looked at my list and I only had 8, but then I added Unbroken so I‘m up to 9. 🤪 They are Outliers, Destiny of the Republic, Bossy Pants, The Power of Habit, Pat and Dick (about Richard Nixon), Glitter and Glue, Sally Ride, and Save Me The Plums. 4y
jenniferw88 I better see Gone Girl on your fiction list! 🤣🤣🤣 am going to post #bottom10ofthedecade lists tomorrow lol. 4y
KarenUK Read 4, really want to read 5 days at memorial..... Fantastic list 😊💕👍 (edited) 4y
ReadingEnvy Um I would struggle to pick a top ten for 2019! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Gaaaaahhh! I can not even imagine narrowing ten years down to ten books. I need about 50! 🤪🤪 4y
Crazeedi This is a great idea! I'm checking my reads to come up with my list 4y
vivastory I've only read Evicted & I definitely agree with that 4y
erzascarletbookgasm I‘ve only read Born A Crime, Just Mercy and Immortal Life. (edited) 4y
erzascarletbookgasm Books published or read in the last decade? 4y
Cinfhen I did books that were PUBLISHED from 2010 -2019 @erzascarletbookgasm 4y
Cinfhen Making the nonfiction list wasn‘t as difficult as a fiction list @vivastory @Crazeedi @BarbaraTheBibliophage @ReadingEnvy but I do think my top reads of 2019 are ALL nonfiction 🎉🎉🎉 4y
Cinfhen Gone Girl is 1000% in my BEST list @jenniferw88 and THE GREAT ALONE would be on my #Bottom10ofTheDecade 😘 4y
Cinfhen I‘m tagging you for #Top10ofTheDecade #FictionEdition @BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja @KarenUK so start thinking ♥️😛 4y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I agree, that fiction may be difficult! 4y
Cinfhen What‘s Sally Ride about @Bookwormjillk ??? And I forgot how much I LOVED Bossy Pants!!!! I‘m gonna check out the Nixon book for an upcoming 2020 nonfiction challenge 4y
Kalalalatja Fiction! That‘s even harder 😅😅 4y
Bookwormjillk @Cinfhen It‘s a really good biography of Sally Ride. I picked it up randomly at an airport and couldn‘t stop reading. 4y
Cinfhen I wasn‘t familiar with the astronaut Sally Ride. #LiveAndLearn 🤓 @Bookwormjillk (edited) 4y
alisiakae I think I need to separate out memoirs for their own category, none of them ended up making my Top 10 (working on posting now!), but I read some excellent ones. 4y
Cinfhen I know!! It was hard to separate the memoirs because there have been so many in the last 10 years @4thhouseontheleft but Born A Crime just stood out for me🙌🏻 4y
alisiakae @Cinfhen That was one I left on the cutting room floor along with Becoming and a few others. The only one that made the cut is Maya Angelou. ☺️ 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Great idea, and great list! 4y
BookNAround I‘ll eventually do thins @Cinfhen but I have 3 more nonfiction books I‘m hoping to read by the end of the year and I don‘t want to choose prematurely in case one or all of them are amazing. 😉 4y
Cinfhen I‘m looking forward to your list / whenever you get to it @BookNAround 🥰 4y

I finally decided to sit down w/ Goodreads & my #bujo to figure out where I stand on the #192019challenge (starting from childhood, not now, of course). Turns out, PRETTY DAMN WELL. I was a bit disappointed that some yrs I only had children's books for (lots of Roald Dahl etc) but there are plenty of years I've read a lot for. If anyone has any suggestions for 1920, 1921, 1928, 1933, 1940, or 1978, let me know! 13 slots left in 2 years! 😂

Natasha.C.Barnes Obviously I'm including books I've read EVER, I'm not sure if people have been starting with a blank slate, but I do NOT have the time or inclination to do that! 😂 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @AshleyHoss820 Oh thanks! It looks lovely. 6y
See All 19 Comments
AshleyHoss820 @Natasha.C.Barnes It really is! Also, The Mysterious Affair at Styles was published in 1920! 😄 6y
Sweettartlaura I started with a clean slate - it was/is great! I read so many books I meant to/wanted to/might not have if not for this challenge. I have 2 more years to get less than 50 done - so about 2 a month if I‘m not pushing it. You have time if you want to ...😊 6y
Cinfhen WOW!!!!! AWESOME!!!! 6y
DreesReads I started with a clean slate, and will be finishing my 20th tomorrow. I need to buckle down and start picking years intentionally! 6y
Karkar Surely Stephen King has something from 1978.... 6y
RaimeyGallant I thought I had one, but it's from 1974. 6y
Marchpane I started with a clean slate (in October last year) and am reading my 50th book now - so that's halfway! It works out to about 3 books per month. Now I'm curious to see how far along I would be using your method! 6y
Marchpane I haven't read this but it's a popular one from 1978: 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @RaimeyGallant It's so confusing! I keep having to check every book individually on my laptop on goodreads so I can find the original publication date. Even off the "best of" lists bc there are a few mistakes. 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Marchpane Orlando! I've been meaning to read that for forever. 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Sweettartlaura @AudreyMorris @Marchpane Yeah, you know, when I wrote this out I was just curious bc it seemed like way too many to do now, but you're all right--it is so possible! I'm not going to bc I've discovered I've read more books from 1936 than 2017...😆 I just feel so behind with recent books due to college that I don't need stretching to the past YET. But I'm bookmarking this idea for the future FOR SURE. 6y
Sweettartlaura I found that the most reliable source for the original publication date was actually Wikipedia. Even if the book itself doesn‘t have its own entry, by and large most authors do, & they‘ll have a listing of their works & dates. 6y
Marchpane Your interpretation of the challenge is awesome! I think it's really cool how you now have this bujo list to look back on 😊 6y
Natasha.C.Barnes @Marchpane 😊 Exactly! I'm gonna keep going back and see how I stand up in the 18th and 19th centuries! I think I'm pretty good in the latter but def not the former....Moll Flanders maybe? 😆 6y

This was a fun quiz to see which decade you feel most at home in. I got the 1950's. The choices you will be quizzed over are the 50's, 60's, and 70's. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/specialfeatures/mystery-decade-personality-q.... Myself I have always been partial to the late 50's and 60's up until the death of J.F.K. But I also like the Regency Era, Victorian Era, and the Inter-War Years.

Leniverse I got the 50s too based on those questions, but I'm not actually partial to that decade at all. 7y

For everyone receiving the #1930s box from #HomeMadeDecades , make sure you check your email (possibly in junk folder if not in regular folder) to reply to the inquiry. There is a custom item and she needs to know which initial you prefer (First letter of first name, last name, nick name, etc...). So tell her the letter that way she can have it made 🙌 ❤️ @mrsamandahood

Annnd after letting them sit wrapped up in a plastic bag, rinsing, washing, and drying... this is the result! Mine is on the left, Blake's on the right, and the most fantastic result for Kaysen's in the middle. Thank you SO much again, @mrsamandahood , it was lots of fun and we definitely enjoyed it. Kaysen had so much fun and really wanted to use the dye on EVERY section for each bottle. She was very helpful, even though it took some coaxing at first. She just kept saying "Uh-oh" when it would drop onto the tablecloth. I think she was afraid she would get in trouble lol

Next step was using different dye for each section. I told Blake, "We still have to do my shirt so save some for me," as I was helping Kaysen with hers while he did his. He responded, "There's plenty." Cut to me having barely any blue and even less red. Blake: "Oops." ?

BooksTeasAndBookishThings @Read4life me, too! I am amazed at how much this box continues to impress me. ❤️ 7y
BooksTeasAndBookishThings @WarpedSweetness eeek! I am curious which book we will all get. I have almost all of the series, I was missing a few for a while after a box was lost in a move, but I have been SLOWLY buying one at a time to replace them, and I will get the last one soon. Then I want to start another set so when we have our second child, there will be two complete sets lol then I will work on Hardy Boys 🙌 it will be years, but every little bit helps 😍 7y
WarpedSweetness I am too!! I can't wait to see. I love the Hardy Boys too. I tried to check the books out of the library for my older two, but they had no interest. How I got three children with no interest in reading is beyond me. 7y
