The little tour: Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino | Constantine FitzGibbon, Giles Playfair
post image

Look what I found in the library at lunchtime! 😁 It covers 4 of the 5 micro states (only Vatican City not included).

I decided to get it out whilst I had it on my radar, as this library loans books for 12 weeks, so it doesn‘t need to go back until 2nd March!

#readingeurope2020

Librarybelle Awesome!! 1d
RachelO That‘s neat! And, as a hopeless slow-coach, I‘m madly jealous of your 12-wk loans 😁 1d
squirrelbrain And you can get 30 books out at the same time @RachelO 📚📚📚📚 23h
BarbaraBB Perfect!!! 👌 22h

Go, Went, Gone | Jenny Erpenbeck

Pickpick

A belated #readaroundtheworld #Germany - it‘s slow & thoughtful, but I loved it.

When Richard retires from academia, a few years after his wife‘s death, he‘s at a loss. Looking for a new ‘research project‘, he starts visiting a home for refugees, asking questions and above all listening. And his world shifts a little.

There‘s no preaching, it‘s very subtle, but Erpenbeck packs a huge amount into a short book. An important story beautifully told.

squirrelbrain Sounds like a good one! ❤️ 1d
BarbaraBB I loved this one. @squirrelbrain you should really read this one! Maybe for #ReadingEurope2020 😉? (edited) 1d

RachelO @squirrelbrain I really need to read that one day! 1d
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain This one is much better - in my opinion 😊. Choices choices indeed! 22h

Challenges | Ben Bova

I don‘t know who I thought I was kidding when I said I would only do 3 challenges in 2020. 🙄😂

The illustrious @BarbaraTheBibliophage came up with this fun bingo card for memoirs and mysteries that doesn‘t look overly complicated, and I think I can find books on my tbr to fit them all. I‘m in!

#mandmchallenge2020 #memoirsmysteries

vivastory I'm joining too 👍 1d
vivastory What are your planned challenges for 2020? 1d
sprainedbrain @vivastory I am doing #ReadingWomen2020, #Booked2020, #ReadingEurope2020, and now this one. 😬 (edited) 1d

vivastory Yikes! I'm doing this one & #Booked2020 & co-hosting #nyrbbookclub which probably will continue until at least fall 2020 1d
vivastory But you can definitely pull it off 👍 1d
sprainedbrain @vivastory this is actually quite a bit less than I‘ve done in 2019. I think I‘m going to finish all of them this year! 1d
BarbaraTheBibliophage @sprainedbrain Thank you so much for sharing this! I‘m excited you and @vivastory are joining in the fun! 1d
gradcat @BarbaraTheBibliophage Okay, so I finally found this page again—yay! I‘d like to join in...is there anything I need to do? 16h
BarbaraBB @vivastory At least! I hope it‘ll last a lot longer 😉 10h
vivastory @BarbaraBB 😄 I think there will be enough people interested in signing up again once the first round is over 10h

squirrelbrain Great ideas! I have 3 of those already on my list but will check out the others as I‘m sure my plans will change numerous times! 2d
Megabooks I‘ve screenshotted as well! Thank you! 2d
youneverarrived Thanks for posting 💛 I might use that book for Poland as I own it already. 2d
Kalalalatja Thanks for posting ❤️ 2d
BarbaraBB @youneverarrived It‘s a hard read. But one I keep thinking about. 2d
erzascarletbookgasm Thank you! I‘ve screenshot this! 😘 2d
arubabookwoman I have read This Way For The Gas, Fugitive Pieces, The Angel Maker, Broken April, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being—all excellent, except I am not a fan of Kundera. I have The Birds and The Summer Book on my shelf, so perhaps I will finally get to them for this challenge. 2d
BarbaraBB I hope you will, they are both really good. I see what you mean about Kundera, I loved this book but I was very young when I read it, it felt like he opened a new world for me at the time. I would probably read it differently nowadays. @arubabookwoman (edited) 2d
CarolynM Very helpful. Thank you.😘 1d

Cinfhen Ohhh, good to know!! I‘ve been wanting to try this series. What‘s new, Jenny??? 2d
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen not much. Passed my annual heart check-up, we're still having our kitchen extended, having my next infusion of Crohn's medicine on Friday, going to Prague next Sunday... you?! 2d
BarbaraBB You‘ve started already. I envy you, I have to finish #Reading USA2019 first! 2d

Cinfhen That sounds like lots going on!!! How long will you be in Prague for? Not much going on here. My friends daughter gave birth to triplets in September and the babies all came home last week so they are throwing a big bash on Monday. 💙💙💙 2d

BarbaraBB Are you going to include the micro states as well? That is ambitious! 3d
squirrelbrain I‘m going to give the micro-states a go @barbarabb - I already have one for Vatican City 3d

#readingeurope2020 @squirrelbrain & other UK littens only (sorry!)

These are the books on my shelves that I have planned for this challenge - do we match on any and are any of them ones you need to get? I'd also be willing to send on after I've read it.

Look at me, feeling all smugalicious, having identified *all* of my books for #readingeurope2020!

14 I already own, 24 from the library, 1 from #mummysquirrel and 12 to buy. 30 fiction and 21 NF.

Would anyone by interested in sharing books by post? For example, the tagged book is one I need to buy but happy to send it around after I‘ve read it. (I‘ll let you decide if you use it for all seven countries!😁) Happy to send outside of the UK too.
