Loved the part of this book where Noah becomes a #partyman, DJing at events and becoming more and more in demand.... until his dancer friend Hitler comes on stage at a party at a Jewish school....

I loved this book by Trevor Noah. The way he combined the hard truths of his childhood with humor made it such a fantastic novel. It was informational and enjoyable. It's a quick read, and worth every minute.

Excellent read! I have seen all the great reviews from everyone for so long, that I knew it would be a good one.
I actually did not realize this was the real life story of Trevor from The Daily Show!!🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Amazing to hear about all of his life experiences. Eye opening for sure. Love this guy's sense of humor and seeing the world from his perspective.

I enjoyed this book on so many levels. It was educational regarding the history of South Africa, it was enjoyable to hear Trevor‘s stories, and it was personal to hear more about his family and life experience. I listen to this one in the car and enjoyed hearing it from Trevor Noah himself.

Trevor Noah‘s Born a Crime was very funny and relatable. The way he reflected on his life was as though he understood why everything happened as it happened. Awesome read.

Nonfiction isn‘t typically my thing, but I enjoyed this. It was recommended to me by my colleagues who recently added it to their World Literature course. I can definitely understand why they chose it and why it has been resonating with students. Noah‘s voice is sincere and engaging. #nonfiction #teachersoflitsy #representationmatters #weneeddiversebooks

I have been waiting in vain for this to turn up in the library's audiobook service. Kindle deal at £0.99 almost convinced me to just read it. But I really wanted this on audio, so I added another £3.99 for audible thrown in. I'm ok with that. Pretty sure it will be worth it.

This book is so amazing! I can‘t believe I didn‘t read it sooner. Trevor Noah‘s insight about his life is told from a mature viewpoint looking back on his past. I love that when he tells you stories about his life either happy or day he is always honest about how the situation was during that time and what lessons he took from the situation and what you as a reader are able to learn from his experiences.

I didn‘t know anything about Noah‘s life going in and ashamed to say I knew very little about apartheid. It‘s amazing he became the person he is today with so many odds stacked against him. I‘m looking forward to my book club discussion in a couple weeks.

I was in dire need for something that can keep the tempo high so literally flipped a coin between Born a Crime & THUG. And this undoubtedly was a right choice!
Noah talks about one of the hardest times humanity has faced and with his subtle humor. His life in this book tells where this guy has come from and undoubtedly he's here to stay & won't settle for any less. A bow down to his mother who really is the STAR of this book. ,💫⭐🌠

“People say all the time that they‘d do anything for the people they love. But would you really? Would you do anything? Would you give everything? I don‘t know that a child knows that kind of selfless love. A mother, yes. A mother will clutch her children and jump from a moving car to keep them from harm. She will do it without thinking. But I don‘t think the child knows how to do that, not instinctively. It‘s something the child has to learn.”

I‘m still thoroughly enjoying Trevor‘s narration style while also learning much about apartheid and life in South Africa. I have to admit I was rather ignorant about all that before. #library On a super exciting note, since Max was adopted Saturday and is doing well in his new home, this handsome hunk will be picked up at the shelter soon to be our next foster. He‘s super sweet, gentle, cuddly, and playful. I love him already. #fosteradopt #rescue

I liked it, but I didn't love it. However, Trevor Noah is a gem, highly intelligent, his stand up is hilarious and his mother seems to have been an impressive woman. Brace yourself for the last essay. A man beating his wife and children and almost killing her, is hard to read about.

By reading this book I'm learning stuff about South Africa that I never knew. A lot of it is painful just like segregation of blacks was in America. But apartheid in South Africa is a whole different ball game. Imagine, applying to be white? Pencil test? All just ridiculous.

I totally found the letters between Trevor and his mother funny and interesting. I liked the fact that when his mother would write to him she would first quote a Bible verse to introduce what she had to say in the letter itself.

#unpopularopinion time: There were so many things I loved about this book. There were stories that floored me and moments I laughed out loud. But overall, the book fell a bit flat for me. I guess it just wasn‘t my type of humor, and all the swearing threw me off. Overall, a good book, but not my favorite.

Overall this is an engaging, thoughtful read, both poignant and funny, and also really informative. I liked how well he balanced his personal anecdotes with explanations about apartheid, racial groupings, and education. He‘s lived quite a life, one most of us could hardly begin to imagine. I did take issue with a couple parts, but still definitely enjoyed the reading experience. 4/5 ⭐️

Hm. Not here for his take on the name Hitler & how to view the Holocaust vis-à-vis other genocides and atrocities. I get that many black ppl in SA haven‘t known exactly who Hitler was so using his name wasn‘t shocking, but it‘s 1000% ok for others, esp. us Jews, to be repulsed by it. And there‘s no need to almost downplay the Holocaust as he does to gain deserved recognition for horrors against SA or the Congo. Don‘t do Tragedy Olympics shit, FFS

Wow. What is this book? Autobiography? Coming of age story? Historical non-fiction? Yes—and more. So many thoughtful reflections on race, religion, slavery, government, economics and more wrapped up in bits and pieces of his story, not told chronologically but even stronger for it. Violence and language abound but every other quote felt share-able. Definitely a pick.
