#WeeklyForecast 26/22

After a month of way too much alcohol and junk food my sister and I started an 11 day detox. So far that mostly leads to a headache all day so I won‘t have too high ambitions about finishing books this week.
I started and am loving the Strout. The tagged book I bought for #CampToB (of which I hear or read nothing by the way, isn‘t that weird?) because it is so out of my normal reading. Not sure what I‘ll make of it!

vivastory Good luck with the detox! I was also planning something similar & then the Supreme Court decision came out. Might have to wait a couple of weeks 🙃 2d
squirrelbrain I loved the Strout. Hope the headache isn‘t too bad! 😬 2d
Cinfhen I can totally relate to detox headaches 🤕they do go away and you‘ll feel so much better!! So nice to be doing a detox with your sister 👯‍♀️ 2d

TrishB Good luck 👍🏻 2d
Graywacke Headaches stink. Hopefully only one bad day and lots of ibuprofen (or whatever your equivalent is). 2d
BarbaraBB @vivastory You might need a little wine indeed - or a lot 😇. Did you read Devil House? Somehow I think you have or wanted to? 1d
BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @Cinfhen @TrishB @Graywacke Thanks! Lots of ibuprofen indeed and hopefully lots of discipline too 😉😘 1d
batsy All the best on the detox and hoping that headache doesn't persist for much longer! 💜 1d
Megabooks Good luck with the detox! 💜💜 I preordered the Darnielle and link to my review. I loved it but there are definitely mixed reviews overall. Megabooks's post on Litsy https://litsy.com/p/R1dWY1VmR1dP 15h
BarbaraBB @Megabooks You‘ve read it! I could have known of course but somehow missed your review. It‘s encouraging though, thanks 🤍🤍 7h

#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

I had to hibernate Hood for now. It‘s very good but just too sad for this moment in time.

So I moved on to Legends & Lattes, light frothy delicious fantasy. I‘m just 2 chapters in and it‘s lovely.
This Time Tomorrow is for #CampToB, audio from my library since it‘s not a book I would have chosen to read otherwise. I am liking it so far though.

My up next are flexible, but possibilities for the week.

squirrelbrain Good to hear you‘re enjoying the Straub so far! 2d
Cinfhen I really liked the Straub wayyy more than I thought I would!! How‘s the memoir?? 2d
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I haven‘t started Rememberings yet, but I‘ve heard Sinead had a difficult childhood so I‘m preparing myself for that. I‘m almost done with the Straub and it‘s quite good! 2d
Cinfhen Duh 🤦🏼‍♀️I see that now, so clearly labeled!! I‘m super curious, I bet it‘s good. And for what it‘s worth, I really enjoyed your other up next book 1d
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I‘ve loved Nina La Cour‘s YA, so I‘m looking forward to Yerba Buena. 😊 1d

Another great #CampLitsy #CampToB book!

I learned so much about Deaf culture. I thought the story was great and the contrasting characters helped readers see things from multiple angles.

Looking forward to tomorrow‘s discussion.

keithmalek Why does your doggie look so sad? 4d
Soubhiville @keithmalek she doesn‘t like being too close to books for photos. I don‘t know why, but she doesn‘t trust them 🤣. It‘s fine if it‘s in my hand, but once it‘s on it‘s own near her, I guess she thinks anything could happen. 4d

#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

I‘m hoping to finish News of the World today- it‘s So Good! I‘ll probably watch the movie sometime in the next week too.
True Biz 2nd half for #campTOB is next up. I‘m enjoying Hood too. I still haven‘t decided whether to bail on The Idiot, which means I probably will.

I‘ve got several audiobooks downloaded, we‘ll see what I‘m in the mood for on my way to work in the morning.

Happy Reading friends!

AmyG I loved News of the World. Brace yourself….while the movie is not the book, it wasn‘t bad. 1w
squirrelbrain Looking forward to next weekend‘s discussion on True Biz…. 1w
Addison_Reads I bailed on The Idiot last week. I just couldn't get into it. 😕 I was hoping to read it so I could then read Either/Or for #CampLitsy but I will just have to skip that one and enjoy reading everyone else's responses. 1w

Soubhiville @AmyG I just finished the book and absolutely loved it. I‘ll expect some changes with the movie. It‘s still worth watching? 1w
Soubhiville @Addison_Reads I‘ve just about decided to join you on that skip. I‘m finding parts of The Idiot amusing, but the lack of plot is wearing on me. 1w
Addison_Reads @Soubhiville I agree. Some parts were very witty, but it just wasn't making me want to pick it up and finish it. I decided to move on and perhaps I'll revisit one day. I loved News of the World 💚 My book Club read it this year and we had an excellent discussion about it. 1w
squirrelbrain I‘ve heard lots of mixed reviews for The Idiot. I‘ve only just started it but hoping to have lots of time this week to read it (or not!) 1w
Cinfhen I bailed on The Idiot too! It was just driving me crazy🙃but I LOVED 1w
AmyG I‘d watch the movie. It was decent. 1w

*sobbed into the sand finishing this book*
Absolutely loved this time travel novel which I read (early) for #CampToB — so far a favorite of the year. Totally unexpected because time travel usually doesn‘t work for me, nor does sappy which I assumed it was. A delight from start to finish and one I‘ll be recommending to many…a love letter to NYC, teen angst, scifi, & dads. The parent-child relationship hit me HARD, both as a child and as a parent.

BkClubCare Yay! You've amped up my interest significantly! Putting my July library holds now. 2w
AmyG Wow...high praise. I will have to bump this up. 2w
jlhammar Can't wait for this! Hope to start it this weekend. 2w
Megabooks So excited to read this next month! Glad you enjoyed it! 2w

Alice‘s father is dying and most often unable to speak to her, so when she finds herself in her 16-year-old body (which in itself is a fun moment) and able to see him again when he was younger and vital, she wants to hang on to as much of him as she can. The time travel elements work and there are a few awesome lines, but overall this is a tad more sentimental than what I would typically want. A low pick for me. #campTOB #campLitsy

Megabooks Great review! I‘m excited to lead this discussion in July. 👍🏻 Looking forward to hearing more from you. 4w
squirrelbrain Great review! I did wonder if this might be a bit soppy… I‘ll see when I get to it! 😁 4w

Either/Or follows Selin from The Idiot into her sophomore year at Harvard. She‘s now trying to understand the events of the past summer, move forward with a designed sexual awakening (there is nothing funnier than her intellectualizing her first sexual experience while it‘s happening), and continue her own march forward. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to discussing it in #CampTOB.

BarbaraBB Eager to read this one too! 1mo
Megabooks Looking forward to this one! It‘s getting great reviews. 1mo

Bingo! This square at R3C3 completes C3 as my possibly only May2022 #BookSpinBingo. I loved this linked collection of short stories and it readies me for week 1 of #CampTOB discussions.

Ruthiella Congratulations on BINGO! 🥳 1mo
BkClubCare Whoa! This is only the second Esther pic in 4 weeks?! #DogsofLitsy 1mo
BkClubCare @Ruthiella - Thanks Ruthiella! I hope you are well. Are you going to get any/all TOB camp books read? 1mo
Ruthiella I‘m definitely going to read Either/Or. I‘m definitely skipping Young Mungo (Shuggie was so sad...I can‘t do it again). The rest are solid maybes based on time and library availability. 1mo
BkClubCare @Ruthiella - those are my thoughts! I remember you, too, liked The Idiot. And I am not drawn to the sadness of Young Mungo. 1mo
