Prompt: Mystery
I chose this book because it is the first mystery I read as a child.
My Wednesday Tradition (book, bath, beverage) had to come a few hours early because I am driving a long distance to see my brother and his family tomorrow, and won't want to stop hanging out to use the tub after a couple years apart.
Bestselling YA author Maureen Johnson and Nancy Drew β it‘s a mystery dream teamβ¦ and it was such a treat for me to be part of it on the latest episode of my podcast. BIG thanks to Maureen Johnson for joining me on Episode 149 for a conversation about the second book in the iconic series, The Hidden Staircase, in which we talk about Nancy‘s legacy, the story‘s wild twists and turns, Nancy‘s lunch breaks, and more. Link to listen in my bio!
Probably more than one Nancy Drew mystery had an alleged haunted house! π» But this one, the second in the series does for sure. Oh the excitement of looking at those yellow spines in the public library and finding one I hadn‘t read yet! π
#LitsySpringBreak. Haunted House
Thanks @Annie1215 for the tag!
1. On the staircase landing. We have a U shaped staircase, wide enough for a corner shelf. We‘re always in need of more shelves, so the local authors of Michigan books go there.
2. No live pets. But I certainly have some cute and fuzzy stuffed animals who keep me company while I read!
Tagging @TheRiehlDeal , if you haven‘t played already.
Do you think my husband will notice all these new secondhand books I got today from eBay if I hide them under my son‘s homework on the stairs?

My grandmothers collection of Nancy Drew makes me happy. Confession: I‘ve never read a Nancy Drew mystery, too bad she doesn‘t have number 1, because I can‘t start a series on anything but! π #vintagebooks #nancydrew

7 days of books that made a lasting impression on me or changed me.
Nancy Drew is responsible for my life life addiction to mysteries (not thrillers; toooo scary).
Apologies. I am not sure who tagged me- was it you. @TheAromaofBooks ?

I choose my favorite Nancy Drew book for the reread challenge on the #goodreadssummerreadingchallenge.
A decent adaptation -definitely modernized since I read it. #page2screen
It's been a bit since I've posted, but that doesn't mean I haven't been reading. :) Lately, I've been working on the goal of getting through the whole Nancy Drew series this year. These are easy reads and so much fun!! #mystery #nancydrew #readinggoal #fiction #girldetective
Did anyone know they made another Nancy Drew movie?!? #page2screen
In the midst of all of my buddy reads, a part of my brain was like, "What's that Nancy Drew book where she runs up & down a staircase to figure out which steps don't creak?" ? I had to read it again immediately despite having read it probably 52 times when I was young. Pure nostalgia #braincandy. Nancy knows how to get an owl out of a room! Hannah cooks a 4 course meal no matter what the hell goes down! The bad guys are always scowling! Love it.
Just finished this for my adaptation book club. It was fine. The movie looks like a really fun romp. I can already tell it will be very loosely based on the book. I am fine with that.
For some reason I remembered Nancy drew as scrappy and resourceful. Sheβs not that at all. I was shocked at how privileged and traditional she was. I already like movie Nancy better.

βHelen was holding up a man‘s purple #velvet suit. It had knee breeches and the waistcoat has a lace-ruffled front. There were a tricorn hat, long white stockings, and buckled slippers to complete the costume.β #QuotsyFeb19 #NancyDrew
Third book down for #nancydrewchallenge and I finished this in one day! Hubby challenged me to do it, then actually encouraged me to finish it tonight (he timed me!).
An enjoyable, very dated, mystery involving secret passages, a haunted mansion, a kidnapping, and some shady business dealings. All resolved by the girl detective herself!
When you notice that there are so many #NancyDrew books at the used book store! I'm dying, y'all. I think I might already have this particular tagged one, but I'm not sure so I'm getting it anyway lol
Choosing #myfavoritethings - these are the top of an infinite list- Family, friends, home, Rocky Mountains, Adirondack Mountains, Halloween, camping, hiking, popcorn, coffee, cafes, coconut tofu, traveling, gardening, music and books. One odd thing I would add- health- I miss it every day. #musicalnewyear
Having just finished a modern Nancy Drew novel, with a βhauntedβ house plot, I really appreciated reading this one. The way Nancy stayed cool, calm, & collected during eerie scenes was definitely different from her reactions in the modern plot. Although it might be unrealistic, Nancy‘s confidence in such situations feels reassuring to this reader. Though, I have to admit that certain parts of the plot felt like a Scooby-Doo mystery.

I started this one last night. Book cover puzzles are fast becoming my favorite puzzles!
So mysterious! This one starts many Nancy-isms, such as concussions or attempts at them, kidnapping, murder attempts, a sweet little old lady, and helping out a random friend. Fun read. #24in48 #nancydrew @24in48
Book two for #24in48 is done! While highly predictable and very convenient, I enjoyed this story of 18-year-old Nancy Drew solving the mysteries of a ghost in a mansion and her father‘s disappearance. Unlikely? Yes. But to a young girl, inspirational. I remember loving these stories as a kid. And there‘s still something there to entice me as an adult. 3.5/5βοΈ
Next up! Although I should mention that I started the audio version of We Are Never Meeting In Real Life during my lunch. ππ§
I'm not taking part in the readathon because I have too many other things planned for this weekend but I couldn't resist throwing in some #nostalgia of my own. Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden forever!
Two down, 54 more to go, not counting the 1980s/1990s editions
I liked the second book more because the first few chapters actually spooked me to the point of leaving me on edge. π¬ The funny thing though is the hidden staircase doesn‘t actually appear in the book till later. The title should‘ve been The Ghost at Twin Elms Mansion since the setting was 90% of the story. π€the third book will be even scarier!

The spice shaker of TBR books shook out the tagged book as my next read for #TBRbingo. I'm having trouble sleeping so I will probably start it tonight.
This was the last book I read on vacation. I love mysteries. I always loved Nancy Drew. I want read the whole series. Maybe on audio. #nancydrew #litsy #booklover #goodreads #kindle #kindlefire #library #bookish #mystery

Some of my first #childhoodreads were mysteries. I desperately wanted to be a part of Nancy's #ScoobyGang.

I had an absolutely horrid day. I didn't get to read, no Litsy time, and I had a problem with my mobile banking depositing my paycheck. Just all around horrible. But I came home to a box from homemadedecades.com!! The baby of course needed to help me. This certainly brightened my shitty day. Thanks, @mrsamandahood!!
What better #yellowcovers than my old Nancy Drew! #riotgrams
This must be my absolute favorite mystery. I can, in an instant, feel the same excitement now I felt decades ago opening a Nancy Drew book then waiting for the next and the next in the series. It was the beginning of my love for reading. What memories! :::sigh::: #GONEBABYGONE
Very old copy that was given to me by my aunt when I was little. It was my cousins. I thought it got lost I had given it to my oldest come to find out it was in a box of her stuff in my basement
#17booklove Day 26: Loved when I was 10. The Nancy Drew series was my favorite. I would read one right after another all summer long.
It's no mystery πthat these pillows look great on my couch π. π
