My second Emily Henry and I can now officially say she isn't really for me.

This was fine. The Hallmark story about being Anti-Hallmark. It felt a bit trying hard for my particular tastes, which is too bad because on paper (but not this paper) Nora is totally my kinda lady. I did love that she knows she is a city girl she isn't prissy about it but she is aware of what she likes. Charlie was nondescript Fine. Not a lot to get excited for.

Amor4Libros But Slanting Towards the Sea is awesome! 🤗 2mo

I don‘t read a lot of rom-coms but I had acquired a copy of this, and I‘m hosting the senior book club this month for work in which the genre is Beach Reads, so I read Book Lovers. It was slow getting into, the banter annoyed me for some reason but I liked the character development, the bookish innuendos, and the ending. Overall it was a nice, light read and I‘m sure it‘ll get snatched up in the Little Free Library 📚

ChaoticMissAdventures I read this too! Finished yesterday. I agree the banter while some lines were funny I found it annoying. 2mo

Full disclosure, I don't usually like modern Romance novels, there are too many descriptions of how people look in different outfits; but for the first time in my life music doesn't help me to lose myself in thought making my runs very challenging, I needed something easy to listen to distract me that it wouldn't matter if I lost concentration, and this had good reviews. I hated every minute. The sisters are not fully functioning adults ⬇️

nanuska_153 the anxiety attacks because your sister fights with her husband (?); I don't know why Charlie put up with the MC because the reasons why she decides that she wants/doesn't want to be with him are inexistent; all conversations are full of jokes that every other character finds witty and funny but I didn't find either. Good thing is that I got some PBs while rage running because of yet another description of the guys eyebrows. ⬇️ 2mo
nanuska_153 Sorry to those who love it, it wasn't for me; I'm not a friendly runner, I'm a "what the fuck is wrong with me and with the world to make me go for a run" for 90% of the training/"I'm Athenea Nike Goddess of victory" for the final 10%, so not really in the most forgiving mindset. I'm thinking of listening to ACOTAR for my next runs, hopefully I'll enjoy it more if it has some fantasy elements? Might lose some friends over that one ?? 2mo
mcctrish I was meh on this, I think ACOTAR would be more entertaining but if you want more rage run pbs I‘d suggest Colleen effing Hoover 2mo
See All 8 Comments
Eggbeater How do you feel about thrillers? They are usually easy to follow along with and would go with a rage run. 2mo
Prairiegirl_reading I didn‘t like this either! I was bored out of my mind! Sorry I don‘t have any suggestions as far as running goes… 2mo
nanuska_153 @mcctrish 😂😂 I don't know if I want PBs more than mental health, hopefully ACOTAR will distract me and make me look forward to running 2mo
nanuska_153 @Eggbeater I was initially thinking about thrillers rather than Romance because it's a genre that I like more, the reason why I went for Romance is that I was afraid that my mind would wonder and then I wouldn't know what was going on and I'll have to stop and rewind. I accept suggestions though, cause Romance was a fail xD 2mo
nanuska_153 @Prairiegirl_reading I'm glad I'm not alone on this one! I kept listening to it to see if something finally happened, but no 🥲 2mo

I finally understand the Emily Henry hype. Book Lovers is the first book by her that I‘ve read, and it was an absolute delight! Reading a romance novel is definitely not my forte, but I found myself falling in love with the characters and the storyline. The story‘s quality, the characters‘ likability, and the personal growth they experienced all left a lasting impression.

I‘ve never been able to tolerate romance so why am I actually enjoying both of these?

AmyG Hahahahaha. I said that when I was reading Abby Jimenez. 4mo
KadaGul @AmyG Abby, I enjoy reading Abby Jimenez's stories because she focuses on mental health rather than just the typical soapy romance. It adds such depth to her writing! (edited) 4mo
marleed Once I had the time and space to read the amount that I do now I added in romance to break up my genres. The tropes drive me crazy, I can handle a certain amount of spice but smut really isn‘t my thing 😳 - other than that I‘ve learned to like it and several romance writers are now auto read for me. 4mo

Reggie Because they guarantee a happy ending and right now the world feels like it‘s on fire. I read 5 Abby Jimenez books in February and I was soo happy and high spirited. It was nice. 4mo
megnews @Reggie I think you‘re right. I think it‘s the same reason I‘m reading more middle grade right now. Even when it‘s broaching tough topics, kids are naturally more optimistic and I for one need to borrow someone else‘s optimism right now. 4mo

I was disappointed today as it is #indibookstoreday & I had to work at the library.

However, a new #indiebookshop opened by me two weeks ago , @daughterscoffeeandbooks & they were doing a book bedazzle event after I got off.

I wanted to try it & it was so much fun! I still need to complete the word “Lovers” & I did slightly mess up the “B” however for a first attempt, I am happy. And I celebrated #independentbookstoreday in a small way!

Cupcake12 I love what you‘ve done with the bedazzling, not sure if I have the patience 😂 6mo

A very soft pick for me. Henry has taken the romans tropes and played around with them a bit, but ultimately, it‘s still an enemies-to-lovers story. It‘s well-written, with character development, but apparently I only enjoy romances in December. And I‘m also a bit of a prude ‘cos I don‘t like the spicy bits!

Why do I do this to myself?
I'm not a Romance person, I hate the tropes and can tell from the first chapter who the love interest will be.
But still once a year I try a Romance novel.
So please know that it's not the book reflected in my rating, but my personal feelings towards Romances in general.
I should just stop torturing myself.

KadaGul @BarkingMadRead Book Lovers was a great book 📚. If you have a library card, you can borrow most titles from Libby or Hoopla. 10mo
BarkingMadRead @KadaGul ohhhh I have to try that. My physical library is not the best, and most books are shipped from other branches, which can make the line long. I haven‘t done Libby in like a decade! 10mo
KadaGul @BarkingMadRead, Most of the titles are soft picks, light, and heartfelt, except for Bee Keeper of Alleppo. It moves at a fast pace, but it's a little more sentimental. 10mo
KadaGul @BarkingMadRead My friend, and I live on different ends of Colk County, but her Libby/ Hoopla won't have all the titles my library has. I have the luxury of adding my Pittsburgh Library Card to Libby and Hoopla. So, the titles I don't have from Barrington Library will be Pittsburgh's. 10mo
BarkingMadRead @KadaGul ohhhh that‘s smart, I wonder if my daughter‘s library is better than mine, I might be able to get books that way 10mo

It‘s National Book Lover‘s Day, one of my favorite days!

I started to read at the age of four, self taught, and books have been my life savers. They gave me hope when I had none, taught me to be kind, honesty and empathy when I received none & changed my life.

They shaped me into the person that I am today & have provided to me so many wonderful people and memories!

Books are truly life transforming! Happy National Book Lover‘s Day!

I get so sucked into these rom-com books. Even though they are predictable and do follow certain tropes, I nevertheless find them difficult to put away.
I did appreciate the intertwining love stories here - between the two lead characters but also the familial love between the sisters.

Emily Henry's books are perfect. I read through them with a constant smirk on my face and the occasional tear. She nails snarky banter and can accurately depict the littlest moments that make a relationship, like the lingering warmth from a kiss on a forehead or the feeling of a heartbeat through a wool sweater. She gives the same giddy happiness as Gilmore Girls. Her characters always stay with me long after the book is over 💖

I am not much of a romance reader but someone gave me this book and I needed something lighter to read. I liked the beginning, then skimmed through the romance bits in the middle and was feeling “blah” by the end because all these types of books are really predictable. The so-so rating is more because i don‘t enjoy romance, but I am sure that those who do would give this a pick.

Prairiegirl_reading I read a bit of romance and very much did NOT enjoy this one. 1y
