For those joining @BarbaraBB and @Librarybelle 's #readingeurope2020 tour I suggest these wonderful books and the author is a litten as well @Broomie so you know they will be really good. I have read all these so I know that they will be perfect for this challenge.

BarbaraBB Thanks for spreading the word. Which country are they from? 9h
Birdsong28 @BarbaraBB The author is from Cambridge but the stories are about Greece (My map of you), Prague (A year and a day), Sri Lanka (maybe not this one ) Spain ( Then.Now.Always), and Italy (The place we met) if they aren't suitable then it was just a thought. 😘📚📖 9h
BarbaraBB All European settings are suitable! Thanks! 😀 9h

IndoorDame A very good point, but one that cuts both ways. I often find audiobooks more difficult because I‘m a mostly a visual learner, and the temptation to multitask is genuinely distracting. I still listen to them, but I find some books/narrators impossible to understand in that format (and a few way easier). 14h
SleepyDragon I'm someone who can't multitask while listening to an audiobook or podcast. I've tried, but my mind wanders and then I realize I wasn't paying attention for the last half hour. Still, I don't begrudge other people the audio experience. If anything, I'm jealous they can enjoy a book in a way I can't. 14h
Crazeedi If I'm doing something I dont have to concentrate on, that is a routine task such as cleaning or gardening or cooking, I can listen to a book. But any thing that requires a bit of attention, I've lost the train of the book 14h

Very good. This book is just so good as it takes you on such an emotional journey you feel like you are one of the characters and you experience every emotion within you and just keep wanting more once it's finished. Josie Silver is such a wonderful author and she is getting better with each book. Grab yourself a copy either on Kindle (30th Jan 2020) or Paperback (3rd March 2020). Interesting addition to the original Handmaid's tale. It answers some questions but also leaves it open to interpretation as to what actually happened on the end. Not necessarily needed as The Handmaid's Tale was perfect on its own but it was still a good companion to it.

Sace I still have to read the whole article but if I'm in a bookstore I'm buying from the bookstore. I will not pull out my phone to look for savings. 3w
TheEllieMo Just saw this on Facebook. I think it‘s a ridiculous idea. It would stop all but the most devout bookworm from using the store, eliminating all passing trade. 3w
Soubhiville I also don‘t compare in store prices to online prices. I go to bookstores to support the bookstores, and I‘ll pay their prices to help keep them around. That said, I wouldn‘t shy away from paying a few bucks to get into a bookstore that had discounted prices and perks like free beverages and a comfy reading area. 3w
See All 11 Comments
everlocalwest The most frustrating part of this is the idea that bookstores being able to sell books at Amazon's prices is what would "level the playing field." What the average consumer doesn't understand is that Amazon is selling books *below* cost to get you to sign up for Prime and whatever else. Amazon has devalued books so greatly that it is having an effect on the industry as a whole, not just retail. 3w
ravenlee I buy books from stores and online, and from used book stores, and everywhere else. As a former bookseller, it only bothered me when people came to ask for help fully intending to peruse the book before purchasing online. Anything else is fine. The idea of charging admission is absurd - it will deter the casual browser, the person killing a few minutes, and parents with kids in tow. @everlocalwest makes an excellent point about Amazon‘s practice. 3w
Birdsong28 @Sace @ravenlee @everlocalwest @TheEllieMo @Soubhiville Thank you for your comments, it is an interesting concept and one I hope not to see as it will put people off going into bookshops especially the young and people on a tight budget. 😘📚📖 3w
Chrissyreadit I love bookstores- all of them, but Indie more than BOM or BN - but they can‘t carry the selection online can. My dream retirement would be a bookstore/cafe/cyber cafe/ lounge. I think we have unrealistic expectations of supporting cost of living because of companies like Amazon. 3w
Sace @Chrissyreadit I completely agree about unrealistic expectations because of companies like Amazon (which I try so hard not to purchase from but fail all the time.) 3w
Sace @ravenlee yeah, I'm going to buy from anywhere. My community has one BOM and a small, downtown BN and a used bookstore. All are inconvenient locations for me. 😢 3w
BookwormAHN I can see all of y'alls points except where I live there are no bookstores except for two Barnes and Nobles, which I'm personally hoping don't close. Around me a cover charge would be laughable and some books I can only find on Amazon. Also Louisiana makes Amazon charge tax on books to help even things out. I'm not sure that actually does anything though. 3w
Birdsong28 @BookwormAHN Yes I am in the same situation. My town in the UK has only 2 bookshops and supermarkets with limited stock as they only put chart ones. I have to use Amazon for most of my books and I know its got a bad reputation for taxes and so forth but I have to use it otherwise I wouldn't read the wide variety I do. 📚📖 3w
