Harry Potter: fun book | J.K. Rowling
post image
Birdsong28 Just seen this! I don't think she quite gets it. Majority of fans are going to be 25 and over because the books came out and probably like me (35 years old) I grew up with them and they are a huge part of my childhood and my lifelong love of reading. The movies were just an added bonus. 1mo
RaeLovesToRead Haha, yeah, but it's Miriam Margolyes.. she's always saying stuff like this. Have you heard what she says afterwards about Harry Potter themed weddings? "What's their first night of fun going to be like?" ?? I'm looking forward to reading her books. 1mo
RaeLovesToRead Also, a Harry Potter themed wedding sounds amazing 🤔 1mo
See All 10 Comments
Birdsong28 @RaeLovesToRead A Harry Potter wedding does sound amazing!! It is possibly just one of her outbursts that she does and needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, just thought it would be interesting to see what other people make of it. It does annoy me slightly, but also I can see that this is just one of her comments. 1mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I think it means she does not get it 😂 Harry Potter is a huge part of a whole generations growing up, and since they all read it & watched a unifying thread no matter where you grew up. But beyond that, I read them as an adult, not a child, and they start as children‘s stores but the stories in each book mature with the age of the characters, so masterfully done to really connect with each age. And for an adult that read them, much larger ⤵️ 1mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ Themes in them of good vs evil, terrorism, tyranny of those with power, great social issues of how government react, don‘t react, refuse to see some things if it‘s inconvenient, how segments of the population will go alone to increase their own power, pure bloods vs mud bloods. She had some huge social commentary and analysis in there that is super relevant today and will probably stay so as humans do these crazy human things and history ⤵️ 1mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ repeats. So I think it will stand the test of time like Lord of the Rings for example because that deeper human societal story is in there. So will remain relevant. 1mo
TheBookHippie I‘m not a fan nor was my daughter (35) HOWEVER look how many of us love Anne of Green Gables or Little Women, Pooh… etc. Also I have been to a Pokémon wedding and it was the most fun I ever had at a wedding. 1mo
Deblovestoread I read along with my daughter as a child, we reread together, more than once, to provide some sanity as she went trough vet school and we are rereading them now just because. Muggles just can‘t find the magic. 1mo
Caroline2 Meh 😒 I really don‘t like these judgy/shaming statements. Why try and make people feel bad? It‘s interesting that people say this about Harry Potter a lot but no one says it about Star Wars or Anne of Green Gables or Little House or other childhood favs?! 1mo

Good. Follows two people who used to date and how they bump into each other and are forced to spend time together, whilst also dealing with friends and family on a long road trip. Shows how they broke up and that everything was not what it seemed and how they deal with the truth.

Been seeing a lot of posts about Diva by Daisy Goodwin. If you liked that book and want to read more about Maria Callas I recommend this book, it's fiction but this author is very good and does plenty of research so rest assured it will be fact based.

Good. Full of romance and friendship. Shows how relationships happen when you least expect it in the unlikely of circumstances. Also a must for any book lovers as the authors love for books just shines through. Another wonderful addition to the bibliography of Emily Henry. Good. Even though at first the main character seemed not very likable I held on and was very pleased with her eventual redemption. Full of wonderful descriptions of the scenery around which made me feel like I was in Italy and feeling the sun on my face. Full of the usual Rebecca Serle magic and wonder.

Good. Takes an in-depth look at not just the final days and death of Marilyn Monroe but her whole life. Even though I enjoyed this there were some chapters that I skipped due to information that I felt just dragged the story down and wasn't relevant. Also sometimes during chapters that I did read some parts felt like it was also going off on tangents.

Thank you @peaKnit for the list. I am currently on 77% of Hello Beautiful and I will be finishing it in the next couple of days as life got in the way of reading this 🙄. Hello Beautiful is my favourite and I will be getting a hard copy of this. It is soo good. So glad you put this on the list.

Thank you @monalyisha for hosting this. It is so much fun to start the year off with.

Birdsong28 @Caroline2 I would get it and still wait for the audiobook cos you will have to give back the audiobook at some point and we all know life can get in the way and you might not finish the audiobook so at least you have a copy as a backup. 3mo

Good. Enjoyed the story. Found it hard to follow at first because I am used to seeing Death in Paradise on the television and had to think back to the characters in the 1st series. Perfect for fans of the series, which will love reconnecting with the characters from the 1st series.
