Mistborn
Mistborn: The Final Empire | Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson, fantasy's newest master tale spinner, author of the acclaimed debut Elantris, dares to turn a genre on its head by asking a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails? What kind of world results when the Dark Lord is in charge? The answer will be found in the Mistborn Trilogy, a saga of surprises and magical martial-arts action that begins in Mistborn. For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison. Kelsier "snapped" and found in himself the powers of a Mistborn. A brilliant thief and natural leader, he turned his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark. Kelsier recruited the underworld's elite, the smartest and most trustworthy allomancers, each of whom shares one of his many powers, and all of whom relish a high-stakes challenge. Only then does he reveal his ultimate dream, not just the greatest heist in history, but the downfall of the divine despot. But even with the best criminal crew ever assembled, Kel's plan looks more like the ultimate long shot, until luck brings a ragged girl named Vin into his life. Like him, she's a half-Skaa orphan, but she's lived a much harsher life. Vin has learned to expect betrayal from everyone she meets, and gotten it. She will have to learn to trust, if Kel is to help her master powers of which she never dreamed.Readers of Elantris thought they'd discovered someone special in Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn proves they were right.

1. Ot depends on the genre I read. For example: Thrillers need to be fast, but Fantasy can take its sweet time.

2. The Final Empire 🤩 actually all of Sanderson's books I've read this far.

fredamans Thanks for the tag! I'm a day late to play so I'll answer it here...
I am with you on depending on the book itself and the story. I like my romances to be slowburners. As for a well-done book; Pretty Little Wife by Darby Kane. Just read it and it will be hard for a book to beat it as my fave for the year. It was epic and completely plot-driven!

My oldest son‘s girlfriend is an avid reader. (I am so excited by this!) She loaned me this book because it is one of her most favorite. This epic fantasy took some time to develop, but once the world building is completed, it really takes off. The story and the characters draw you in and the novel becomes unputdownable. I raced to the heart pounding conclusion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

✅First goal completed for #novelnovember ❤️📚

AvidReader25 I‘ve been curious about this one for awhile. I‘ve been reading one of his other series this year. 2mo
Elizabeth2 This is the first of his that I‘ve read, but my son‘s GF is a big fan of his. Even though this is the first of a series, it really could be a standalone - the story is concluded well enough. 2mo

I must focus today and really dig into this book. I wanted to finish it by the end of the day today, but I am only 40% through. According to my Bookly app, it will take 10 hours of reading time to finish and I don‘t think that‘s going to happen today. The story is really moving now, and I am enjoying it. I‘ll enjoy it even more if I can immerse myself in it today. ❤️📚

Got the crockpot going with dinner, the morning chores are finished, the house is quiet (for now)…it‘s time to sit down with this book. ❤️📚 It took a bit to get into, with the intricate world building (which isn‘t normally my thing), but I‘m about 100 pages in now so I‘m starting to get it and become more invested in the characters.

I hope all of my Litsy friends have a great Saturday!

My two oldest sons‘ GFs are readers!! (I am so excited by this!) We have shared book recommendations, and my oldest son‘s GF (a 24 year old grad student studying nursing at Johns Hopkins) recently gave me her very well loved copy of one of her most favorite books to read. I‘m excited to dive in and see why it‘s one of her favorite books. ❤️📚

This sort of epic fantasy with complex world-building, political maneuvering, and a large cast of fabulous characters is, quite simply, my kind of read. It was long but didn't feel that way, because I was fascinated by every new development. The story ended in a satisfying way still leaving some threads for further books in the series, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here.

5⭐️

Skaa are not human. They‘re below the nobleman and are only valued as slaves to work the plantations, keep the refineries churning, and sweep away the never ending ash that falls from the sky. At least that‘s what has always been taught. This could change. But, the Lord Ruler is god, the mists rule the night, and he controls everything across the Final Empire.

Glad I gave this book a 2nd chance. I tried to read it a few years ago and bailed after liked 100 pages. This time I listened to it and at first it was slow going. However, after a certain point I was hooked and into it! I will be continuing this series.

Also, side note, I thought this was a trilogy and it is not! There are a lot of books in the series!

Thanks for picking this one #LitsyLoveFantasyFunBookClub (I just made that # up) #LitsyLove

Deifio Well, the first three books are the main trilogy. Then the other books set in the same world but like over a hundred years later. And I think he plans a third epoch too 6mo
Laughterhp @Deifio Oh okay! That‘s good to know! Thanks! 6mo

This has been overhyped to me. The plot reads like a mashup of the slave rebellion from Elvenbane with the heist/con job of Lies of Locke Lamora, but I'm finding the writing style a lot more bland in terms of characterization and missing that distinct author's voice. I don't think I'm going to read beyond the sample.

Clare-Dragonfly I really couldn‘t get into this. (edited) 7mo

I quite enjoyed this read. A fantasy world based on metals and alloys is such an interesting world. Little romance (although I can picture more of it in book 2) and some descriptive battles/fights. Just as I was starting to feel like the middle part of the book was starting to drag on - the writer moved along in the story line - it was perfect timing (for me). It was a good book to re-enter the fantasy genre with.

Haven't had a chance to read much this year but due to an outbreak I'm stuck in isolation at home with the kiddos. Might as well get some reading in and I've made it to part two of the first book in the Mistborn trilogy. Haven't read much fantasy for a while but I'm absolutely loving this book so far. I love the idea of using alloys as powers - very neat.

Why have I waited so long to dive into this book?! The magic, the people, the aristocracy...it‘s like Victorian London meets a dystopian universe with magic sprinkled throughout.

5🌟Having read the Stormlight Archive books, I had high hopes that I would love this as well. I was not disappointed. Brandon Sanderson has quickly become one of my favorite authors, and this book was a thrill to read. One of the things that I love about his works is that the events are always evolving. You never know what will happen next. Add that to a rich setting and a fascinating, thoroughly unique magic system, and this book truly was a joy.
