Wicked Lovely
Wicked Lovely | Melissa Marr
Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries. Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their crueltyespecially if they learn of her Sightand wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens. Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries. Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer. Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention. But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any costregardless of her plans or desires. Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything. Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale.

Time to play catch up!

I enjoyed this book when I read it, I do like a fae story. But for some reason I didn‘t continue with the series. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Maybe I will revisit it one day as some of my favourite series began with a similar story 😂

Y‘all I‘m so over the place when I read. Managed to finish the last 30 pages of this gem! I‘m a sucker for anything fae and this is an excellent beginning to the Wicked Lovely series. I‘d have finished it sooner but I started the fairytale retellings for October and…yeah. Anyhooo love the romance. The suspense. The world building ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

KimberlyJuracich One of my favorite series ever! And I never see anyone talk about it!!! 2y
KristiAhlers @KimberlyJuracich me neither! I was worried it wouldn‘t be good as there was no chatting. I loved it. I‘ve gone ahead and bought the whole series. I‘m looking forward to reading them. 2y

This was suggested by my friend Laura (who is not on litsy) because she knows I‘m obsessed with the fae. I‘ve also heard it‘s one of Holly Blacks‘ fave series so I wanted to try it out. I‘m so glad I did! It was an addictive, very engaging and creative story! Lots of fun characters and faerie court drama (which I love) the storyline is a bit YA, but still keeps you engrossed. I will definitely continue with the rest of the series!

Aislinn can see faeries. She has been taught to be very afraid should she ever be discovered. Rule #1 never attract attention to yourself. Aislinn is suddenly attracting a lot of attention. She is being followed and even approached by a fae in human form.

This was an interesting tale. It was different than the many other books I have read about the fae. It was an unorthodox romance as well. I am curious to see what happens in book 2.

Ronda I loved this series, it must be a few years since I've read the books now but I still remember really enjoying each book ❤ 5y

Read this one back in 2012 as well. I fell in love with Aislinn and really enjoyed the story and how it played out And not at all the way I had thought! Really nice plot twist with this one.

I don't really have a favorite fantasy author, but I have been wanting to read Holly Black's novels.

Holly Black's favorite series is the Wicked Lovely series. I have always wanted to read this series, but never got around to reading. While continuing to read Ash by Malinda Lo, I've been in a bit of a mood to read some novels with fairies in them.

The book I want to read by Black is The Cruel Prince #agameoffavorites @ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

JazzyBanks I read this series in high school! I think it might be a hit or miss with you lol. Tell me when you start Wicked Lovely and what you think when you read the first three chapters. 6y

🎧 I almost bailed on this one but I‘m glad I didn‘t! I didn‘t think 2 hrs was long enough to satisfactorily resolve all the issues but I was wrong. This story of a Summer Fae King in search of a queen, THE queen to help restore his power had unexpected challenges and resolutions, and strong female characters. I‘m not sold on Aislinn, the prospective queen being 18 years old, but still a good story. 🧚‍♂️🧚🏻‍♀️

BethFishReads Sob. I‘m so afraid to listen to this again . What if I hate it now? 6y

🎧 I‘m actually 2 hrs and 18 min away from finishing this audiobook and I could have done so last night or this morning; but I realized that there is no way everything that needs to resolved will be done so in the time remaining; that this is the first in a *continuing arc series*; that this does not stand alone. And all of the sudden I‘ve lost interest in going on. Whether I stop now or at the end of the audio, it‘s still not a finished story :-(

BethFishReads I never read any of the others in the series! 6y

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The ending was predictable, but there were definitely places that I was surprised.
Aislinn was definitely something. Her decision was definitely unique. She got everything she wanted. :)
I would definitely recommend reading this book. I can't wait to read the others.

I loved the premise, it was what kept me reading tbh. It was a fresh idea that was very interesting but the execution let it down for me.
I really liked the style of writing, but the characters, their development and pacing were all off. At times too much focus on the inconsequential while skimming over things I wanted to explore more. I won't bother with the rest of the series. A shame. Gorgeous cover though! #romansty #osrbc

I have a few favorite authors, Melissa Marr being one. It's been quite a few years since I've read this book. There was a challenge in a book group on facebook to reread a book and see how your opinion has changed. So, here I am reading this and hoping to finish this weekend.

First #TBT of the day! Obsessed doesn't even begin to cover it. I have an unhealthy infatuation with fairies & Melissa Marr is by far my favorite YA/Urban Fantasy author. Until I'm whisked away by a fairy king I'll just have to settle with reading about it.

youngish-adult Yes!! I haven't read this series in years! One of my first YA fantasy reads - been hooked ever since! 8y
meghankoneill Love-loved these books! 8y

Maude_Lynne Have you read Holly Black's The Darkest Part of the Forest? Depending on how twisty your fantasy about fae kings is, it may realize it for you, in a literary way, obviously. 8y
brittnaypozen @Maude_Lynne no I haven't read it! I think I'll pick it up later today though, someone else brought it up the other day. Did you like it? 8y
Elisa Have you read the Meredith Gentry series? It's definitely more on the adult side but I really like the characters and fairy genealogy! 8y
brittnaypozen @Elisa no, I haven't! I'll for sure add it to my list though. Anything with fairies I'll read (: 8y

A lot of YA seems like it's marketed that way only because of the protagonist's age; the books themselves are universally appealing. This wasn't one of those. It was a quick, fun read but I would've enjoyed it a lot more if I was its target audience.

Do extremely dated references pull anyone else RIGHT out of the story?

BookFreakOut Anything with celebrity or political figures that are "modern" jar me right out of the flow. I found one once that referenced a celeb couple that wasn't even together anymore, and I don't even follow that stuff. It was bad. :P 8y
