A Deal with the Elf King
A Deal with the Elf King | Elise Kova
Perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Uprooted, this stand-alone, fantasy romance about a human girl and her marriage to the Elf King is impossible to put down! The elves come for two things: war and wives. In both cases, they come for death. Three-thousand years ago, humans were hunted by powerful races with wild magic until the treaty was formed. Now, for centuries, the elves have taken a young woman from Luella's village to be their Human Queen. To be chosen is seen as a mark of death by the townsfolk. A mark nineteen-year-old Luella is grateful to have escaped as a girl. Instead, she's dedicated her life to studying herbology and becoming the town's only healer. That is, until the Elf King unexpectedly arrives... for her. Everything Luella had thought she'd known about her life, and herself, was a lie. Taken to a land filled with wild magic, Luella is forced to be the new queen to a cold yet blisteringly handsome Elf King. Once there, she learns about a dying world that only she can save. The magical land of Midscape pulls on one corner of her heart, her home and people tug on another... but what will truly break her is a passion she never wanted. A Deal with the Elf King is a complete, stand-alone novel, inspired by the tales of Hades and Persephone, as well as Beauty and the Beast, with a "happily ever after" ending. It's perfect for fantasy romance fans looking for just the right amount of steam and their next slow-burn and swoon-worthy couple.

This was an okay read. I think I hyped it up way more than I should have. I think this is more of a YA read.

I adored this book and the main characters. I wish more time was spent on the elf king‘s history, I desperately wanted to know more about him. However, it was well written and beautifully descriptive! I really escaped into another world with this one! Highly recommend if you are looking for a stand-alone fantasy slow-burn YA (no spice) romance to dive into. Thanks @KateReadsYA for gifting me this book!! 😘

This is a fantasy version of the Hades & Persephone story. It does have cool world building and a fun animal companion, however the pacing is very slow and I don‘t really feel much for our main characters. It just felt not new and I had a hard time finishing it. 2⭐️

Floofy and I decided to dive into this read today. I can‘t count how many times it had been recommended to me and I blew it off. So I downloaded it onto my kindle and made it a #bookspin read so I‘d really read it. OMG so good. So so so good. Like kick myself in the backside because it took so long good. Fantasy romance for the win! @TheAromaofBooks

This has been my "waiting for the kids to fall asleep" book on my kindle for the last couple weeks. A little predictable, but I still enjoyed it. It had a fairy tale retelling vibe even though it was an original story. I'll definitely check out more books by this author.

First off, how gorgeous is this edition?? I was in love the entire time I was reading it. My photo does not do it justice. I actually really enjoyed this #LMPBC pick. After reading a couple fantasies lately where the authors seemed to delight in making the reader guess everything about their world and how it works, I enjoyed that the elves didn't spend half the book acting like Luella should be kept in the dark. The ending drama felt a little ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) drawn out, but on the whole this was an enjoyable fantasy romance, and I can see myself checking out the next book in this series. Thanks for the pick @HOTPock3tt !! I really enjoyed reading with you @Chrissyreadit @Laughterhp - can't believe this round is already over!!!

Andrew65 Great 👏👏👏 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - People are always like “show, don't tell!!!“ but honestly I LOVE me some telling! 😂 I read From Blood & Ash last week and like I just don't think I should be on page 400-something before I find out really basic things about how the world's magic works. 2y
Clare-Dragonfly In my writerly opinion, when one character says “why do you do X” and the other character says “because X prevents the ancient curse from taking place,” THAT IS SHOWING! Telling in this situation would be if we were in the second character‘s POV and his thought was “He did X to prevent the ancient curse.” 🙄 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - Right?! This book wasn't perfect that way, but there actually multiple conversations because she's freaking in a NEW AND CRAZY MAGICAL WORLD so guess what - SHE HAS QUESTIONS!! So she would ASK the questions and then, most of the time, someone would ANSWER the questions because it's in everyone's best interest if she actually KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON! I feel like I should, within a few chapters, have about the same amount of ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) knowledge as the MC/character telling the story. That was what really annoyed me about From Blood & Ash. It was like pulling teeth to find out what all these mysterious aspects of their religion were all about when then PERSON TELLING THE STORY ALREADY KNOWS! 2y
Clare-Dragonfly Ooh, I haaaaaate that! 2y

I should finish The Night Raven today, I only have an hour left on audio. My goal is to finish The Engineer‘s Wife by the end of the month.

I‘m about 25% into the Name of the Wind, but my lib hold expires in 4 days. So I‘m going to have to check it out again.

#WeeklyForecast - I have so many books going, who knows what I‘ll read next. These 2 are lib books

Book Haul Pic 1! 😌📚💕

I stopped deluding myself that I would ever be able to go into Barnes and Noble and only leave with one book. I just don't have that kind of will power and it's better if I'm honest with myself about that! 😂 The books on the bottom are the first two in a Nordic fantasy series that I've never heard of before but looks AMAZING! And the Elisa Kova books I keep hearing about so I wanted to try them! ❤📖❤ #bookhaul

vivastory The B&N cafe that I go to has delicious pizza pretzels & I used to delude myself into thinking, “Well, I'll stop by real quick & browse & grab lunch, but I WON'T buy any books...“ *Narrator: He bought books* 😂 (edited) 2y
Branwen @vivastory Hahahaha! The temptation is just too strong! 😂🤣 I've actually never visited the cafe in my B&N! I may have to check it out next time because those pizza pretzels sound delightful! 😋 2y

Sooooo… I liked the book! I don‘t think I loved it but it was definitely a good read! I think most of the book was just too slow paced for me, it didn‘t make want to read all of it in one day or as fast as I could ya know! But it was still a really good book! If you like a lot of smut this maybe isn‘t for you since even though there is some smut it‘s nothing crazy. Definitely a book and story worth reading at least once!

My first Kova book I see her a lot on Instagram. An interesting fantasy romance. A girl is chosen to be queen and trained for it. However Luella wasn‘t supposed to be chosen. We have a dying land and lies. Luella is supposed to save them all. I wish it honestly had more to the story. It wasn‘t rushed I just think it could have been fleshed out more.

🤔I loved the beginning and that ending! The world building was EFFORTLESS!! But the middle was QUITE slow😖I felt like the whole book happened in the last few chapters. I adored the MC‘s and their friends but I wish we got to spend more time with them instead of just the end. A few 🔥 scenes! and I want more of these characters! I wanted bit more of EVERYTHING from this book I guess😕If only there was a book 2!

When I picked this up I wasn't expecting myself to like it. But I knew I was going to regret it if I didn't read it due to the multiple Tiktoks that seem to preach it. So I took the free kindle unlimited trial and got this book for free. But, all this book did to me was confirming that I know my reading style and what I enjoy. 😅 I wasn't interested in the romance and my favorite character was the wolf that had no dialogue.

While not the literary work of the century, this novel is a fun experience. Kova‘s world building was pretty good and the answer to the main problem wasn‘t needlessly complex. My primary complaint was how formulaic the relationship was. #fabulousfebruary #bookjournal

3.8 ?

"I see life. He sees death. Two sides of the same coin. Two halves that require the other to exist."

This may be an adaptation of Hades and Persephone. Eldas and Luella are shoved together in a marriage to maintain the pact between elf and human world. Luella didn't she had natural magic in her blood, her childhood friend, Luke, gave her a necklace made by Elvin and ?

Weisubei unknowingly the necklace kept her magic hidden from The Knowing of the elves. When the Elf King came to collect her after 101 years, she went voluntarily but without any training to become Human Queen she is without any knowledge of her role. I love how these two different characters come to be in love and choose to stay in love with each other, it's beautiful and sweet at the same time. 3y
