This is my first read by James Patterson. I have seen movies based on his books, but never read any. This was a great read. It was fast paced and kept my attention. I see why he is popular. I plan on reading more by him.

I love the title because actually, the author is teaching the reader about African American Girls. A collection of short stories that draws you and gives you something to think about.

"For most people, what is so painful about reading is that you read something and you don't have anybody to share it with. In part what the book club opens up is that people can read a book and then have someone else to talk about it with. Then they see that a book can lead to the pleasure of conversation, that the solitary act of reading can actually be a part of the path to communion and community."~Bell Hooks

Our book club we meet in 6 weeks.

Always a good read when it is a Beverly Jenkins book. This one did not disappoint. This is the second book in a series. If you like Romance and cowboys this is for you.

"My daddy says that when you do somethin' to distract you from your worstest fears, it's like whistlin' past the graveyard. You know, making a racket to keep the scaredness and the ghosts away."
I saw reviews stating the story wasn't plausible for a 9 year old to say and do what Starla did in the story. I taught in a low income elementary school, I know for a fact that a 9 year old can mature quickly depending on what they were exposed to in life.

This could have been an excellent story if Ellie's part had been left out. The story starts with a lady named Jennifer who wakes up with amnesia. She kind of remembers her husband, but when she gets home she finds letters from her lover. Soooooo, good. Then the author brings in Ellie's storyline and tie it into Jennifer's and I wasn't feeling it.
