The Princess Bride
The Princess Bride: An Illustrated Edition of S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure | William Goldman
Here William Goldmans beloved story of Buttercup, Westley, and their fellow adventurers finally receives a beautiful illustrated treatment. A tale of true love and high adventure, pirates, princesses, giants, miracles, fencing, and a frightening assortment of wild beastsThe Princess Bride is a modern storytelling classic. As Florin and Guilder teeter on the verge of war, the reluctant Princess Buttercup is devastated by the loss of her true love, kidnapped by a mercenary and his henchman, rescued by a pirate, forced to marry Prince Humperdinck, and rescued once again by the very crew who absconded with her in the first place. In the course of this dazzling adventure, she'll meet Vizzinithe criminal philosopher who'll do anything for a bag of gold; Fezzikthe gentle giant; Inigothe Spaniard whose steel thirsts for revenge; and Count Rugenthe evil mastermind behind it all. Foiling all their plans and jumping into their stories is Westley, Princess Buttercups one true love and a very good friend of a very dangerous pirate.

⚔️ A Classic Tale of True Love & High Adventure ⚔️

I read this once when I was a teenager. I forgot about the Zoo of Death, but other than that this was a fun, enjoyable reread. This illustrated deluxe edition also features some lovely artwork.

From the sublime (my grandparents' marriage certificate from 1910) to the ridiculous: a hilarious quote from The Princess Bride:

Mawage is wot bwings us together today. Mawage, that blessed awangement, that dweam wifin a dweam. And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva. So tweasure your wuv.

So. Much. Nostalgia! I loved every minute of this book. It didn't really add to the movie or give any details we didn't already know. I enjoyed the humor and often found myself laughing out loud. It made me love the movie even more! Very lighthearted! This book was something I could sink into after a long day, escape into, and laugh along the way. It is definitely worth the read, especially if you loved the movie

Always loved and a fun book to share with Beatrix on our commutes. I had forgotten how closely the film stuck to the text - most of the dialogue is lifted straight from Goldman. A gem of a story and film.

35 years ago today, a movie you may or may not have heard of came out in theaters. In honor of this day, please let me know your favorite quote from this fabulously amazing movie or the book, I am not picky!!

Here are mine:
Movie: As You Wish (anyone surprised?!?!)
Book: Do I love you? My God, if your love were a grain of sand, mine would be a universe of beaches. (Westley has a way with the words, does he not?!?!)

Roary47 “You keep using that word. I don‘t think it means what you think it does.” “Mwawage, is what bwings us togwather “ 8mo
Sargar114 So hard to pick…but with the iconic “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.” But I also quoted “he‘s only mostly dead” just this week. Love this book/movie!!! 8mo
Sargar114 @Roary47 I also say your first quote all the time 😂 8mo

I liked the book, though I will say, I didn't expect the movie adaptation to be as faithful to the book as it was. That meant I enjoyed it, but also made me a little sad that there wasn't much more to the book than what happened in the movie. I plainly skipped the "foreword" and whole "abridged" extra sections at the end, because they felt boring and didn't add anything to my experience. I would still recommend the book, but only the main parts.

I first read this when I was too young to really appreciate its depth, but I still enjoyed it. I read it again as an adult and was blown away to realize all that I had missed. The movie is a cult favorite, but the book is a masterpiece: humor, satire, adventure, drama, action, and romance!

"Don't think, just read it. You'll thank me later", that was the first review I saw on goodreads about this book. Obviously, I didn't 'just' read it, in fact it's been on my tbr for months. But now that I've finally read it, all I can think of saying is this: Don't think, just read it.??

1. Tagged. Really, this movie is just about as perfect as can be. An adaptation of a book where a storybook is the focus. ❤️

2. No, because Hollywood usually screws it up. I‘d rather just read the book.

Ughhh I‘m not enjoying this, the more I read , the less I like it; I got most of the way through it and just decided life is too short; I think it‘s different than the movie, I don‘t like how the characters are portrayed, especially buttercup.. so off I go to another book.. so long to this one

4✨ I absolutely love the movie. When I found out it was a book before the movie I had to get it. Reading it was difficult because there is a lot of backstory. Not that the backstory is bad, but it does take away from the characters journey making them just that characters. These add ins increase the experience, but I found myself putting down the book more because of them.

You‘ve seen the movie, now read the book. Every bit as enjoyable as the film. Goldman draws you in so masterfully that you find yourself asking if he his writing the story himself or summarizing a much longer story written by S. Morgenstern. Either way, book is in turn funny, scary, romantic, heroic and dramatic.
