Enrique‘s Journey was a book I had to read for a class, so the fact that it was an “assignment” put a damper on my experience. However, it opened my eyes SO much to immigration and its hardships (especially through Mexico). I think everyone should look into this book, just to stay cultured and aware :)

Although I don‘t recall much about this book, I know that thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It has such complex stories split between the twins, and the journey of finding each other again is really beautiful. I recommend looking into this one❤️

I read these a while ago, but I remember being sooo obsessed with this series — I was definitely on my fantasy/sci-fi kick😂 It‘s not the greatest story of all time, but it was intriguing nonetheless. Also it really speaks to how beauty standards could evolve reallllly badly, which I think is interesting!

Jane Eyre | Charlotte Bront

“Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! - I have as much soul as you, - and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you!”

Haven‘t read this book in a while, but I just love how fiery Jane can be. Also, never underestimate a woman based on just looks and money!

Love this series by Jenny, and this question is so interesting… but I‘d say all decent days. I would rather find the small joys in daily life than beat to death the amazing things!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!! Even though the fake-dating storyline is pretty predictable, I really didn‘t care since the overall plot was so cute. The academia setting was a nice bonus too :) hoping to read more from Ali!

Spooky season calls for a neal shusterman review! I read this one for a book club yearsss ago, but I‘m still semi-scarred by the story. The plot itself is well-developed and the premise is unique, but I‘m just not a fan of the gory/eerie genre. I also didn‘t know this book was basically about abortion laws until this year🫢 anyways, not the biggest fan, but some people may like it!

Matilda | Roald Dahl

“The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.”

Love this book and Matilda‘s love for books❤️

This book is very cute! A nice romance storyline with some interesting sub-plots, and I love Clara‘s initial “enemy” coworker turns out to be a really good friend for her. I recommend for a sweet, easy read!

In honor of the start of October, I‘ll share my thoughts on this semi-eerie story. I had REALLY high hopes for this book, but as I kept reading I felt like I was going absolutely nowhere. The plot dragged throughout the whole book, and the ending wasn‘t really worth all that build up. The overall idea of the story is very cool, but the execution wasn‘t as exciting as I was hoping :(

Me Before You | Jojo Moyes

This book (and movie, which I saw afterward) was so moving in the best and worst ways. Lou and Will‘s relationship is sweet and quirky, but hinges on a heartbreaking decision for Will… yes I did shed a tear😢 I haven‘t read the books after this one though, so if anyone recommends them please lmk!

Liatrek I loved the whole series ❤️ Lou is a great character 🙂 1y
sarah-bear @Liatrek good to hear!! And I love her too☺️ 1y

Such a Fun Age | Kiley Reid

I actually enjoyed reading this one! It‘s pretty different from what I normally read (romance/fantasy), since it‘s more focused on racial/social issues. But I think it was good for me on an educational level to hear a such a story from a Black woman‘s perspective. Also just in general, the storyline is very interesting! Would recommend☺️

It‘s been a while since I got through this series, but I loved being completely immersed in the world of this kingdom. The romance, the drama, and all the different characters made for an enchanting story. Really really loved it!

The Song of Achilles | Madeline Miller

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

Simply beautiful.

This book was strange for me to read. It wasn‘t a bad story overall, and I did shed tears near the end, but her romantic/sexual relationship with her STEPBROTHER made me really uncomfy. They had an endearing thing going, but I just couldn‘t get past that their parents are literally married🥴

This story turned out to be so much better than I anticipated. The intricate storyline, all the different characters and how they shape Evelyn throughout her life—it all came together beautifully. Thanks to booktok for recommending this one! :)
