The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure
The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure | William Goldman
In this 30th anniversary edition, Goldman frames the famous fairy tale with an autobiographical story; his father had abridged the book as he read it to his son. Now, Goldman is publishing an abridged version, interspersed with comments on the parts that had been cut out.

I don't think I've ever seen the film (I know shocking), nor read the book before (even more shocking). I might have liked the book more, had I read it 20-30 years ago. Goldman's ramblings were annoying and the story just wasn't that exciting. But, I'm glad I eventually got it off #MountTBR.

Finished weaving in the last ends while starting the tagged book (30th anniversary ed).

My camera plus the overcast/rainy weather make the colour look strange. It's the colour of cinnamon sticks - brown not red.

Love the texture of the shawl. It's large, longest side of the triangle is about 2.80 metres.

Pattern: Severn by Trin Annelie
Yarn: Wollmeise Lace (I think the colour is called Teddy)

So. Much. Nostalgia! I loved every minute of this book. It didn't really add to the movie or give any details we didn't already know. I enjoyed the humor and often found myself laughing out loud. It made me love the movie even more! Very lighthearted! This book was something I could sink into after a long day, escape into, and laugh along the way. It is definitely worth the read, especially if you loved the movie

Always loved and a fun book to share with Beatrix on our commutes. I had forgotten how closely the film stuck to the text - most of the dialogue is lifted straight from Goldman. A gem of a story and film.

35 years ago today, a movie you may or may not have heard of came out in theaters. In honor of this day, please let me know your favorite quote from this fabulously amazing movie or the book, I am not picky!!

Here are mine:
Movie: As You Wish (anyone surprised?!?!)
Book: Do I love you? My God, if your love were a grain of sand, mine would be a universe of beaches. (Westley has a way with the words, does he not?!?!)

Roary47 “You keep using that word. I don‘t think it means what you think it does.” “Mwawage, is what bwings us togwather “ 2y
Sargar114 So hard to pick…but with the iconic “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.” But I also quoted “he‘s only mostly dead” just this week. Love this book/movie!!! 2y
Sargar114 @Roary47 I also say your first quote all the time 😂 2y

I liked the book, though I will say, I didn't expect the movie adaptation to be as faithful to the book as it was. That meant I enjoyed it, but also made me a little sad that there wasn't much more to the book than what happened in the movie. I plainly skipped the "foreword" and whole "abridged" extra sections at the end, because they felt boring and didn't add anything to my experience. I would still recommend the book, but only the main parts.

I first read this when I was too young to really appreciate its depth, but I still enjoyed it. I read it again as an adult and was blown away to realize all that I had missed. The movie is a cult favorite, but the book is a masterpiece: humor, satire, adventure, drama, action, and romance!

4✨ I absolutely love the movie. When I found out it was a book before the movie I had to get it. Reading it was difficult because there is a lot of backstory. Not that the backstory is bad, but it does take away from the characters journey making them just that characters. These add ins increase the experience, but I found myself putting down the book more because of them.
