Dix Petits Negres | Agatha Christie

The are crimes that can be punished by the law but what about the crimes in which the guilty walks free because of the circumstances? That's what the whole book is about. Ten complete strangers gather on an island responding to the summons of an unknown individual only to find themselves being killed off in accordance to a nursery rhyme. A brilliantly riveting book with a twist so wild and abrupt that you'll never see it coming. My review 5/5.

ljuliel Really good book ! 2w
Judgemental_Biliophile @ljuliel I was absolutely blown away by this book 1w
ljuliel I‘ve read only a handful of Christie‘s books, but I can‘t imagine any of them being better than this one. I never ever figure out mystery books til they tell at the end who the Bad Guy is. I would‘ve never gotten this one either. 1w
Judgemental_Biliophile @ljuliel I know right. Even after the killer was revealed it took me sometime to believe it. It was so wild till the very end 1w
ljuliel Yes, she definitely made this book a bit like following a maze with lots of dead ends. I kept thinking as the number of people were whittled down, it‘d get easier to guess. Nope, didn‘t help me a bit 😊 1w

Thank you for this #WondrousWednesday @Eggs and thank you for the tags @Coleen_Nieto and @ljuliel ☺️

Branwen Oooooh! I love this! I'll do it when I get home tonight! In fact...I might do it twice, because I can't decide between two authors! 😁

I think it's so awesome how much Agatha Christie has inspired you! Have you ever seen the Doctor Who episode where they meet her? It's one of my favorites! 😍 You should take a picture of your collection! I'd love to see them all together! 💕 📚

DaveGreen7777 @Branwen I haven‘t seen that episode... yet another reason why I really have to catch up on my Doctor Who viewing! 😱 2w
ljuliel I‘m just guessing it had a lot to do with her philandering husband. I‘m not sure if her original intention was to off herself someplace where her daughter wouldn‘t be there when she was found, or to play a bit of a trick on her husband , while also trying to figure out what the heck she was gonna DO with him. 2w
Eggs Thanks for playing Dave 👏🏻👍🏼🤗📚 2w

Dinner was drawing to a close. The food had been good, the wine perfect. Rogers waited well. Every one was in better spirits. They had begun to talk to each other with more freedom and intimacy. Mr. Justice Wargrave, mellowed by the excellent port, was being amusing in a #caustic fashion, Dr. Armstrong& Tony Marston were listening to him. Miss Brent chatted to General Macarthur, they had discovered some mutual friends. #QuotsyOct19 #AllHallowsRead

Anyone else share their book and tea time with their canine book buddies? My little guy has been obsessed with tea ever since we first brought him home! If he doesn‘t get his own bowl, he does his level best to steal my mug! Today‘s selections are an earl grey for me, a fruity herbal tea for Oberon, and we‘re reading Agatha Christie - always a great author to read in Autumn!

Hmm, I have mixed feelings about this #audiobook #mystery. On the one hand, it was deliciously creepy and dark, plus I loved the closed space of being set on an island. On the other hand, I feel like Christie broke the contract between mystery reader and author with the way that the mystery unfolds and the killer is revealed. You can't give the reader false information and then explain later how what was described didn't actually happen.

kgriffith I think there are two very distinct kinds of mysteries: ones where you‘re given enough information to at least have a hunch so you feel very smart if you‘re right when all is revealed, and ones where there‘s at least one piece you could never have thought up so you‘re guaranteed to be surprised by the ending. I‘m generally angry about the latter, but this one was just so damned good that I forgave her 😊 Now I want to re-read it! 3mo

limada I've only read P.S. I Love You out of the pile, but I read it before the movie came out and absolutely loved it. Not sure I'd call Cecilia Ahern a favourite author, but she hasn't disappointed so far. 4mo
RhianJMartin @limada Yes, there was definitely more storyline in the book than what the movie portrayed (isn't that always the case? Haha!), but I like the movie, too. 🙂 Have you read anything else by Cecilia Ahern that you'd recommend? 📙 4mo
marleed Loved PS I Love You - the book then movie. I just reread the book so my memories would be with the book in anticipation of the sequel which doesn‘t get to the US until next spring :( 4mo
limada @RhianJMartin I think Flawed and Perfect are the only other two I've read, though I have a feeling there's another one; I just can't place the name - even after looking up her book titles. Her writing style just feels comfortable to me, so the stories flow easily. 4mo
RhianJMartin @marleed You know, I heard someone talking about the sequel but didn't realize it was actually happening! That's great news though. 🙂 There's always a wait, it seems... I'm a big BBC Masterpiece fan so I'm forever waiting for those shows to air in the US! ⌚ 4mo
RhianJMartin @limada Thanks for letting me know - I will put those on my TBR list! 😊📚 I'm the same way with Maeve Binchy novels... there's something that just feels like home when I read them. 💚 4mo

#30JuneBooks - Bookstack: When I was in high school, I liked reading mysteries ad horror books. I was crazy for Agatha Christie books and Ellery Queen magazines. I was mad for Stephen King. Then I discovered V.C. Andrews (don‘t ask...I was truly obsessed). As a young adult my interest switched to legal thrillers and classic literature. Now I read just about anything - words on paper - I like it all. Some favorites I have decided to collect.📚

Melwilk It sounds like we had similar reading interests in our teens and twenties. I also devoured Agatha Christie, then Stephen King and Dean Koontz. In my twenties I was all about John Grisham and similar books. Now I like a wide variety. 5mo

Christie's style is so character based, with all information delivered to the reader primarily delivered through dialogue. She did an amazing job of keeping all options open, and causing doubt everytime you think you've solved it. Leading to a satisfying conclusion that makes sense, to me at least. This is a brilliant question posed by the wonderful @monalyisha Is there a book that made such an impact, you wish you could read it again for the first time? For me, it‘s “And Then There Were None”. As a kid, I loved children‘s mysteries like the Hardy Boys, but nothing prepared me for the first time I tried Agatha Christie. Haunting, spellbinding and mind boggling, this book set me on a course to be a bibliophile for life!
