Count the Ways: A Novel | Joyce Maynard
post image

The tagged book was the best of the bunch. There was some repetition and it was a bit long but a great story of family, how we fall apart and ways we come together. Another fine #AuldLangSpine pick. 4.5 🌟 Memphis was another good story of family 4 🌟. I think I would have gotten more out of Homesick in print rather than audio.

Slogging through In Dubious Battle only because it‘s a favorite of my dad and a brother.

ChaoticMissAdventures Oh interesting, I enjoyed Homesick much more than Memphis - I listened to Memphis and read the physical Homesick book. I do think HS works much more in print you lose a lot without the graphics. 6d
Cinfhen Agree with SO MUCH of this post since I read the same three books last week!!! Loved Count the Ways although it definitely dragged in places, I switched to print after starting Homesick on audio and I was just meh over Memphis. It‘s already fuzzy in my memory 6d

#FunFacts #Oregon

Oregon lays claim to the deepest lake (Crater Lake), the shortest river (the D river), the deepest river gorge (Hell‘s Canyon) and the smallest park (Mill Ends Park). Portland is the home of the most breweries in the US (not surprising) and also the home of the most strip clubs in the nation (What!?!). We also have the most ghost towns, 1/4 of the nation‘s llamas and the hazelnut is our state nut. The only state to have one.

This book was 11 years in the making and I think it would have been incredibly hard to write an unbiased account of all the players in Roe v Wade. I think Prager did that. It is long. I listened on audio, got lost a couple of times and cringed a bit at some of the descriptions. It is complete account of the woman behind Roe, her family and children as well as the religious leaders and politicians of the time. Another great pick from my #ALS list

Amiable I'm so glad you liked it! It is a complicated story and I thought Prager told it completely and well. (edited) 1mo

Deblovestoread The Sadie/Dov storyline threw me when Sam mentioned seeing the injuries to Sadie during her relationship with Dov. The reader knew it was with consent but Sam and Marks did not. Wouldn‘t they have at least once asked her about it not just mentioned years later? 2mo
Clwojick Can‘t wait to get my hands on this one! 2mo
CSeydel Nice choice! 2mo

Bluebird Loved this book! And yes, i agree with your comments about the Sadie/Dov storyline. Their β€˜inaction‘ seemed out of character. 1mo

A good reading week with two more off the TOB23 list. I should finish Severance today on Kindle and will start The Bride Test next, I think. Have a little under 6 hours to go on The Family Roe, not sure what‘s next on audio. Mercury Pictures has mixed reviews but since I like old time Hollywood hoping I will land on the positive side. I dip in and out of the Worsley so hope to finish soon.

Gone Girl | Gillian Flynn

1) Hated the tagged book with a purple passion and read one miserable half of Fates and Furies. Thankfully, Lauren Groff redeemed herself with Matrix.

2) I will never read another Kristin Hannah after reading The Four Winds which I know is a huge unpopular opinion. I also will never read Emily Giffin due to racist comments made on social media and I have no interest in Colleen Hoover.

RaeLovesToRead Lot of people seem to hate Gone Girl and The Silent Patient πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜… I loved both of them, hehe. (Although I wish gone girl had ended differently) 2mo
BkClubCare I loved Gone Girl πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ, hated The Silent Patient, and also can NOT deal with Kristin Hannah - I think I am allergic to her writing. But Gone Girl was a hoot! 2mo
TheLudicReader I liked Gone Girl, but enjoyed Dark Places more. Silent Patient irritated the crap out of me. CoHo is a hack. 2mo
Suet624 I felt that way about Hoover and then a friend handed me Verity. I feel a duty to read it. 😫 2mo
actualdisneyprincess HATED GONE GIRL!! And The I finished reading The Four Winds one day while I was covering in our Children‘s Department, and HOO BOY was it a good thing that nobody was there at that moment, because I said Some Words out loud. 😬 I loved The Great Alone, though, so it pained me how much I hated TFW. 2mo
