A fitting end to the series, with Vasya finally coming to terms with her identity. It's amazing how well Arden translated historical events into this lyrical version of Russian folk tales! I read this as a library ebook but will definitely need to buy the hardcover to complete the trilogy on my shelves.

Man, I am in a slump. No books sound good, no tv shows keep my interest. Back to school and extracurriculars is kicking my butt. I am tired and cranky and blah. Audiobooks are really helping get through daily life right now.

This series is so wonderful and I am sad it is at an end.

This is more than a coming of age story. It's about a young woman brave even violence for the sake of what is right while being stifled by everyone around here for being a witch. Lots of folklore in this witchy trilogy and I enjoyed it. Great example of nothing is simply good/evil. Not for children by any means but it's a great for young female readers seeing a character so enriched, strong and beautifully wild. #teamnosleep #winterofthewitch

LittleBug I loved this trilogy too! Absolutely agree with your comment about a strong female role model☺️ 1mo
ReadingOverSleeping @LittleBug It was such a refreshing read! A little romance but she does it on her own. I was happy reading about Olga being as strong as she was, too, and without magic. I can't remember who recommended it, but I'm so glad they did!! ❤️❤️ 1mo
LittleBug @ReadingOverSleeping For me it was instant cover love🤣🙈 with the first book. And then I just had to read the rest☺️ 1mo
ReadingOverSleeping @LittleBug I have to admit, I'll probably purchase the series because of the covers alone. They're beautiful! If you have any witchy recommendations, send em overrr 😁❤️ 1mo

I love this series so much I had to go see Katherine Arden at the Decatur Book Festival. I cried twice while reading this and both times were about the same character, but the second time was definitely happy tears. Such character growth throughout the whole series. I‘m so sad to be done with it, but at least now I have my own signed copy of this book. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am #currentlyreading the finale of Katherine Arden's Winternight Trilogy, The Winter of the Witch. This entire series has been compelling and fascinating, a fantasy tale set deep in Russian folklore and civilization. I've absolutely LOVED it and have been recommending it left and right!

I almost bailed on this book. I was really hoping that this book would pick up and that The Girl in the Tower was just the usual second book struggles - but nope. This one just seemed sooooo booorrring. I think by this point in the story all the magic was lost for me and i just got so bored with all the characters.

Just finished the trilogy I can only compare to the greatness of LOTR and WOE IS ME! Not sure how I can recover from the mourning of the ending of this magical trilogy. Don‘t get me wrong- it ended wonderfully and wrapped up better than I could have hoped for! But I waited 7 MONTHS after PREORDERING IT (since December) to start this one because I didn‘t want this amazing story to end! 💙I cannot recommended this trilogy enough !

The third book in this trilogy was fantastic. If you are someone who likes mythology, I highly suggest Arden's Winternight trilogy. I knew little about Russian tales, but the three books have sparked a new desire to learn! This up and coming author is one I am certainly going to be keeping an eye on!

I loved this book! Atmospheric, moving (legit almost cried TWICE), and epic: an excellent conclusion to a series with a special place in my heart. Anything to do with mythology, folklore, or fairy tales is an automatic "will read" from me. Add medieval Russian history, a kick-ass heroine with a believable character arc, and a frost demon/death god love interest and I'm pretty well sold. Listened to WotW on audiobook, image of TBatN. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

I tried to stretch out my listening of this last book in the series, but I devoured it in two days.

Such gorgeous, lyrical writing and a beautiful reimagining of Russian folktales. Vasya is an amazing, complex, strong female character, and her growth and relationships with her family are very well done. Morozko and Solovey have my heart. ❤️

I never wanted the series to end, but what a wonderful ending. I don‘t even mind ugly crying.

Age old myth and legend, religion and superstition, fairytale and fantasy come together to form a unique and immersive world set in 14th century Russia. This was an atmospheric and engaging ride, with a badass female protagonist leading the way. A great end to a great trilogy!

I adored the previous two installments of Arden‘s Winternight Trilogy, and was not disappointed by this beautiful yet bittersweet conclusion. Her talent for rooting the fantastic in flesh and earth, for bringing new dimension and maturity to fairytales, without losing their sense of lyrical wonder, is remarkable.

Aswenson Just started book 3 and it is already breaking my heart! 😭 It‘s uncanny how some of our modern political and societal issues are on full display in these stories. 5mo

My March reading has gotten off to a slow start. I feel like I'm taking forever to finish books. Partly I've been throwing a lot of energy into writing this month plus the weather is getting nice so I've been spending time outside. But this book took me 2 weeks to finish!! Though maybe on some level I didn't want it to end. I have cherished this series & wasn't ready to let Vasya & her adventures go on without me. Alas. All magic ends, I suppose.

I have been obsessed with this series since it came out. I love that the books debut in winter, as the story is set in medieval Russia and it always seems to fit the weather outside my window. Makes for a very comfy reading session. I love the characters. Arden has a gift with description and I haven't fallen in love with a series like this since Marie Brennan's "Natural History of Dragons" series.

#BookMail Pt8 This is the final book in this trilogy based on Russian folktales. I‘m not even sure my copy of The Bear And The Nightingale matches these 2 but the only other ones were the US “misty forest” cover or the ‘bird on a flower‘ cover. My one is the brightly colored flowers, horse & girl in sweater with the title on a white ‘ribbon‘ running through it. Can anyone tell me if that‘s the matching cover? None of them really match it.

Kalalalatja I think it is, at least it is the same publisher 🤷‍♀️ 7mo

With Rus‘ on the brink of war, Vasya is faced with coming to its aide more than once, forcing her to decide who she will become. I was very impressed with the character development, each having fully come into their own. Arden did well tying up most loose ends to the story, and ultimately I was happy with the ending to this trilogy. Sad to see Vasya go, but I will revisit her.
