2022 was my first year using the Story Graph app, and either I was doing something wrong all year, or the app doesn't work properly. I say that because it said that I read no books in 2022, but it gave me my all-time stats. But since I only started using it this year, that's the same thing. Maybe I'll put all of the books I've ever read on there, but that would be a monumental task. I might do that though instead of trying to reset it for 2023.

I was surprised that a little more than half the books I read in 2022 were less than 300 pages. But then I remembered that several of those books were Munk Debates transcripts, which are pretty short.

2022 was my first year using the Story Graph app, so I have no other years to compare it too. But this looks like what a typical year would look like for me.

I was surprised to see that out of the 59 books I read in 2022, nine of them were fiction. I have such a strong preference for non-fiction that 9 is actually kind of a lot for me.

According to Story Graph, I read only 59 books in 2022, which is a very slow year for me. But I had goals in life, and couldn't spend nearly as much time reading as I normally would.

Thanks @BarbaraBB! For now, this is my #Top21of21. Roughly in order of date read (with adjustments to make the graphic work) and the higher rated works are larger.

I'm tagging @Q84, @Butterfinger, @Chrissyreadit, @catsandbooks, @staci.reads, @labfs39, @dilara, @bnp, @stretchkev, @charl08 to share their top books.

vivastory It makes my heart happy to see a few NYRB on here. This is a spectacular list. I have checked out Celestial Bodies so many times from the library, I really do need to read it. I've been thinking of rereading the Ogawa, too. 2y
charl08 Just 21? That's hard! 😫 2y
LeahBergen Great list! I see some of my favourites of the year on here, too. 2y
See All 24 Comments
Liz_M @LeahBergen So when do we see your list? 😉 2y
Liz_M @charl08 Or break into categories: top 21 translated, top 21 non-fiction, top 21 mysteries.... 😁 2y
LeahBergen I‘m still narrowing it down. 😆 2y
BarbaraBB Great list!! With surprisingly few #1001books ?! 2y
Chelsea.Poole I‘ve been curious about this one 2y
Catsandbooks Excellent list! Thanks for tagging me! 💕 2y
sarahbarnes Wow, such a great list! Infinite Jest is one of my all time favorites, and I love In the Dream House. 2y
batsy Fever Dream! I love that book so much. Queen of Persia was close to making mine, as well. There's bits in there that still affect me months later. 2y
staci.reads Thanks for the tag! I'll definitely do mine, but probably next week. I'm taking some vacation days around Christmas and hope to get some more reading in 🤗 Never know...could have some new favorites 😁 2y
Butterfinger Thanks for the tag. I will work on my list. 2y
Liz_M @vivastory I bet Revenge would reward rereading -- seeing connections between the stories that might have been missed the first time. 2y
Liz_M @BarbaraBB 4 from the list plus two that part of as series for a list book. 😊 2y
Liz_M @Chelsea.Poole it's compelling. And short -- I reread it immediately after finishing it. 2y
Liz_M @sarahbarnes I hope to see your list as well! 😁 2y
Liz_M @batsy It was a good'un. I see a lot of nyrb on your list! 2y
Liz_M @staci.reads I hear that! I usually read a dozen books in the end of December, but I had the time now to make the graphic 😊 2y
Liz_M @Butterfinger looking forward to seeing it! 2y
Chrissyreadit I‘m going to work on a list and hopefully post soon - thanks for the tag 😁 2y
stretchkev Great List! Fever Dream was such a strange but memorable read. Some others i hope to read soonish. 2y
Cinfhen Love all the genres you covered 🥰 2y

Other stats: 50 fiction, 15 nonfiction, 16 on Kindle, 5 YA/middle grade and (drum roll please) 135 books purchased/gifted!
In the style of Nick Hornby (Housekeeping vs The Dirt, and other collections) I track what I‘ve read and what I‘ve purchased each month. It‘s ok that one far exceeds the other because buying a book and reading a book are separate pleasures! #reading2020

BookNAround I love the way Hornsby tracks things. I note the date I bought/received everything but I don‘t note if I read them the same month I got them, mostly because the answer is almost always no. 😂 3y
LeslieO @BookNAround Same here. I list books purchased on one side of the page and books read on the other and they rarely match! 3y

I updated my spreadsheet with my final reads of 2019. Above are just a few of many stats. 😂

I finished 210 books, and the majority were audio (68%). 67/210 were ebooks or print books.

Good stuff:
Saved $2,376.53 by using the library.
Read majority (69%) women authors.
Read 38 from 1001 books list.

Not so good stuff:
Spent $283.83 on books for me.
1/1/2019 owned TBR count: 674. 12/31/2019: 715. 😬
POC authors only 16%.

Still, a good year!

sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt tagging you so you can see I‘m not so amazing without my audiobooks (which I love and would never be without). ❤️ 4y
Librariana I *adore* bookish statistics 😁😊💜📚☕ Thank you so much for sharing these! 4y
Julsmarshall Amazing stats! So cool that you track it all like this! 4y
See All 27 Comments
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain You are still amazing!! 😎 but I see what you mean 🤔 I had no idea the majority of your reading was done by audiobooks. In that case it DOES seem do-able!! And not as superhuman as I originally thought 😅lol! I do really like audiobooks (I have both Scribd and Audible because I couldn‘t choose between them 😶) but I usually only listen to the audiobook of something if the ebook has a long wait. I didn‘t even get Audible until ⬇️ 4y
HOTPock3tt I got that really tough job in September and could only squeeze in reading time on audiobooks. Hmm maybe I will up my audiobook game lol🧐🤣 (edited) 4y
janeycanuck Oh, that‘s cool that you track how much you save by using the library. I may have to do that this year! Do you use the cover price or the price you could actually buy it for? (edited) 4y
sprainedbrain @janeycanuck I use the price on Amazon for ebooks and print books. For audiobooks, I use the cost of 1 audible credit. This number would be way higher if I used the ‘sticker‘ prices! (edited) 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I‘m going to go back and look at my Goodreads challenges for past years... my reading exploded the year I discovered audiobooks. At first it doubled by reading, but since then its way more than doubled. I‘m sure that has a lot to do with the longer I‘ve listened the more often I increase the speed. I started with Audible and still use it and Scribd a few months per year as needed, but I mainly get audios from library now. 😊 4y
HOTPock3tt I would LOVE to see my actual stats this way!! 🤔 but I know for SURE I‘m probably about 85%-90% female authors. Which is mostly about my comfort level with the MC‘s and the style of the book 🧐 @sprainedbrain (edited) 4y
HOTPock3tt Oh that‘s a good idea!!!! ♥️😍Not sure WHY I don‘t start using the library for my audiobooks!! I‘m spending too much money having both services and I almost ALWAYs use the library for Ebooks. I rarely buy them! Why can‘t I do the same for audiobooks lol @sprainedbrain (edited) 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt if you‘re interested, Book Riot has a spreadsheet that you can use to track that sort of thing. I‘m using this one this year, instead of the one I used for 2019. https://bookriot.com/2019/12/04/2020-reading-log/ 4y
HOTPock3tt Ohh yes I am very interested!! 😃thank you!!! I really want to know how much I‘m saving using the library! I use 2 different ones and have a paid yearly subscription to the Brooklyn public library. (I‘m out of network since I live in Michigan)I want to know if I‘m using it more than what I pay for it. Thanks Jenni!! 😃 I‘m gonna check it out now!! @sprainedbrain (edited) 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I don‘t think the original spreadsheet tracks library savings, but I added that to my copy. If you want, I can email you a copy of mine? My email is jenni.d.langford at gmail dot com... if you want me to send it, just email me! 4y
Reynosa8701 Omg I love this! 4y
TheEllieMo I am loving these stats!! I gotta get me a spreadsheet! (edited) 4y
HOTPock3tt Ok I emailed you. Thanks in advance! :) @sprainedbrain 4y
Butterfinger I want to track how much I save by using the library. Do you use the price on the back? 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I emailed it to you! 😊 4y
Butterfinger I should read comments before I comment. LOL. 4y
sprainedbrain @Butterfinger No, I usually go to Amazon and use whatever the current selling price is for the version I read (ebook, hardcover or paperback). For audiobooks, I use the cost of one credit from Audible. 😊 4y
sprainedbrain @Butterfinger LOL well I explained it better the second time. ❤️ 4y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain sorry to be annoying but it says I don‘t have access and need to request permission for access 😶 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt I think my lovely daughter just sent it 3 more times (sorry lol) but I made you the owner so it should work now? 4y
sprainedbrain @HOTPock3tt if that doesn‘t work, try saving a copy and you should be able to do what you want on your own copy! 4y
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain it did work! Thank you!! 😃♥️And thank your daughter too for me! 🤗 4y

This year I didn‘t manage to complete my Goodreads reading target and read less books and less pages than last year 🙁 this was despite reading several short novellas and graphic novels to try and get back on track. The positive is I found a new enjoyment for graphic novels. Hears hoping 2018 is a better year in general and for reading!

I read a little bit of a lot this year. 4th batch. Gifts, bookstore purchases, audiobooks, bookclub selections, library borrows. Biography, essay, history, economics, horror, sci fi, literary fiction. Award-winners, classics, short stories, series installments. I visited Oxford, NYC in the future, and ancient libraries. I experienced battle, met gods, watched the plight of a man on a beach, and visited a small town in Maine. You read any of these?

Godmotherx5 I read Empire Falls ages ago. A couple from you photo are on my TBR. 6y
Lcsmcat I read Never Let Me Go this year, and Empire Falls and The Stranger year‘s ago. All good books. 6y

I reached my goal! Slow but steady to the finish line 😊. 70 more reads under my belt. As you can see, I thoroughly enjoyed most of them. Not going to say which is my favorite, I'm saving it for April's #MyFavoriteBookSwap 😁, but suffice it to say, most people I've gotten to read it go in hesitant and everyone winds up loving it. I read a helluva lot more in college, but it's the most titles I've read on GR, 900 pages short of last year's though.

My stats so far! though I'm guessing the pages is probably about 1k too high as it counts the notes in the backs of nonfiction books. I do expect to read probably 7 or so more books before year end. I'm in the middle of four currently!

RanaElizabeth Whoa, these are amazing numbers! I'm trying not to look until January 1st. 7y
8little_paws @RanaElizabeth I have a pretty long commute on the train/bus every day, and I don't really enjoy watching TV shows or movies much so my reading is really high. I also have listened to more audio this year while I do chores, knit, and the occasions when I drive (I only drive maybe once or twice a week) 7y
OffTheBeatenShelf.com That's on Goodreads?? I've never seen them do a year in review graph like that before. That's so cool! 7y
