Liked it, didn‘t love it. Definitely not just a children‘s fairy tale story- there are some graphic deaths in this book! I enjoyed the references to other tales, and the creativity in the world-building of this. The narration was unique and contributed well to the storytelling aspect of this. Overall, a 4 ⭐️ read.

Also, I ended up owning 2 copies of this book. Would anyone like to trade for something off my TBR? ☺️

Playing with my new French Press this morning! As a coffee lover, I was tempted by the simplicity of the device and it‘s promise of the best tasting cup o‘ joe I‘d ever have. I finally caved in and got one. 🙈

Joining me this AM is September. I‘ve had so much fun tagging along on her adventure! I want my very own Wyverary like A-through-L. 🎃🐉

callielafleur The place I'm staying at has a French press, which I also used for the first time this AM! How did your coffee turn out? 3d
laur89 @callielafleur Delicious and strong! It‘s also a lot more fun to make my coffee in this as opposed to my Keurig. How was your brewing experience? ☕️🖤 (edited) 3d

It‘s impossible for me to dislike a Christie novel! Although I didn‘t enjoy the setting or the cast of characters as much as other Poirot mysteries I‘ve read, I still flew through this. So many sneaky little clues and hidden details that contribute to the solving of the murder.

Really enjoyed being introduced to the funny & clever little man and his signature mustache!

Lady_Tigana_20 I read my first Christie in high school. Decided she cheated—no way to figure it out because she didn‘t give necessary info. Rejected her books for almost 30 years. Then I read a biography on her. It peaked my interest. I had my book club read and compare/contrast a Poirot and a Marple. I ended up reading every Marple; planning to start Poirot soon. So glad I gave her a second chance. 3d
laur89 @Lady_Tigana_20 This was exactly my thought when I read my first Christie, a few years ago. I was like ...well obviously I couldn‘t figure it out, there‘s no way I would‘ve known all those things! I do enjoy the simplicity of her writing and the fact it‘s all centered on the crime (no fluff). I have yet to read a Marple but I have one on my list! Which were your favorites? 3d
Lady_Tigana_20 @laur89, luckily, I had tagged them on Goodreads as The Marple Challenge, so it was easy to look up my ratings. I enjoyed the first one, Murder at the Vicarage, and I gave five stars to Sleeping Murder. Majority received four stars, but there were a couple three stars. I didn‘t care for A Caribbean Mystery. I will say that the early Marples barely had her in them. She‘d show up 75% of the way through to solve the case! 16h

Humor for today:

My student comes up to me right before his final exam, and says, “You know the Socs, in The Outsiders? Apparently it‘s pronounced ‘Soashes‘...”

I read the entire story out loud in class, and I‘d been calling them the “Socks” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Struggles of reading an unfamiliar word in a book 😂

rubyslippersreads I always knew how to pronounce it, because that‘s what we called the snooty kids in school, but until I read this book, I never thought about how to spell it. 😊 5d

O.M.G.!!!

I need to read this again. There were so many moments at the end where I was like “wait, what?!” “nooooo!” “huh?” “I should‘ve known!!!”

Thank you to everyone who voted for this #MakeMeReadIt! Amazing book full of so many twists and a ton of bookish references. As a bookworm, I totally related to Margaret‘s thoughts and comments throughout the book.

5 star read FOR SURE!

So creepy, even more so because it has such a strong sense of realism to it!

Paired today‘s lunchtime reading with a ham & cheese sandwich! 🥪

Currently in a monogamous relationship with this book. I‘m so into this story, and a lot of the little details are starting to fit together like a puzzle 🧩

Miss Winter‘s tale has me on the edge of my seat, and I‘m enjoying every second of it!

emz711 @laur89 I've read it 3 or 4 times and just wow. I was a bit disappointed with her next 2 books because they were missing such a huge twist 1w
emz711 My favorite question, what age do you think the book takes place in? 7d
laur89 @emz711 It definitely seems worth that many rereads!!! That‘s a tough one. I feel like it‘s got to be in the early 1900s. The talk of carriages, handwritten transcripts/copies, and the books frequently mentioned throughout like Jane Eyre are my clues. I could totally be off though! I also feel like I should know the answer to this question when I‘m so close to the end... 7d

This was so fun! Starts off like a novelization of the classic Disney movie I know and love, and then takes a twist into the author‘s retelling. It filled in some unanswered questions from the movie with some creative ideas that I felt fit well into the story. Braswell also managed to add in more magical characters, and developed a nice backstory for Belle‘s family! An enchanting new perspective on the tale of the independent & intelligent Belle.

At first glance, I thought this would be a quick, funny listen while prepping my TBR jar.

Instead, I found a humorous yet heartbreaking story, told from the POV of a fox who learned to speak “Yuman”, and has used this skill to seek an “eksplanashun” as to why people are so mean to his pack. “Danjer” arrives in the form of construction and evil people, which quickly turn Fox 8 from a day-dreamer filled with curiosity to a fearful and quaking Fox.
