Alright bookish friends. I need your insight and suggestions!!

I‘m trying to find books for my high schoolers to read independently. I‘m choosing a book for each grade level, so I can give some assessment to hold them accountable.

I‘m looking for a book with interest level grades 9-12, but reading level 6-8 (I teach in special ed.). Would be great if an audiobook existed, and I don‘t want books that‘ve been adapted to film.

Any ideas? 🤔

LibrarianRyan Not sure if there is an audio though. 5y

laur89 @LibrarianRyan Thank you for all of these amazing recs!!! @VioletMoonBooks You read my mind on that one. ☺️ Always a timeless favorite! 5y
laur89 @Caroline2 Thanks!! I‘m actually reading Lord of the Flies as an in class novel with my 9th graders! 5y
dragondrool Anything by April Henry. 5y
Readergrrl I‘m using Kindred by Octavia Spencer for the first time this year. I think it will be well received. 5y
Readergrrl And Homegoing by Yaa Gyassi has been “favorited” by several students in the last few years! One young woman told me that it “changed her life” and she has had family members read it. She and her family emigrated from Ghana about 10 years ago and it was the first time she‘d read a book while in the US that was spoke to her so personally. 5y
Readergrrl I know both are more mature but I felt that the language wasn‘t inaccessible despite the topic. 5y
laur89 @Readergrrl These sound so important to cover. I almost want to save these as in-class novels so we can really dive into the topics. Thanks! 5y

arlenefinnigan Given that Christmas is the busiest time of year in the NHS, I don't think I'm gonna read 13 books in 2 weeks to hit my target. 😔 6y
Smrloomis @Sweettartlaura @Cinfhen thanks y‘all! @DivaDiane nice that you guys are reading together 👍🏽 6y
Smrloomis @DivaDiane @arlenefinnigan I actually just adjust mine as I go along 😄 one year I got really close and the Goodreads page gave me nothing, so after that I just started changing it whenever I felt like it so I‘d be sure to get a congratulations from them 😂 I‘ve also definitely read much more this year than ever before. Thanks, fellow #Littens! 6y
DivaDiane @Smrloomis I have already adjusted it a couple of times! Twice down once in between back up because I was feeling optimistic. But now I‘m 12 Books behind I think. So, if you give me permission I will make sure I achieve my goal! 😂 6y
