So far, this is the best book that I‘ve read about Jane Austen‘s literature. If you‘re a fan of hers you really need to read this memoir by another Austen lover.

It‘s Friday night after a VERY LONG week & I am about done in. So it‘s veggie potstickers for dinner & an attempt to start this for the #AJaneAustenEducationBuddyRead with some of my fellow #PemberLittens 📚Not sure how long I‘ll be able to stay awake but I‘m going to try to at least get a chapter in. 😵😴 💤

Hey, buddy readers! How is everyone liking the book so far? After a diversion to read Kipling‘s ‘The Janeites,‘ I settled right in to Deresiewicz‘s stories.

I‘m highlighting so many passages on my Kindle... there‘s something very satisfying in reading other Janeites talk about Austen and verbalize the way I feel so well.

‘You are born with a whole novel‘s worth of errors ahead of you.‘ ❤️❤️❤️

suvata I know what you mean. This is the second time I‘ve read it. The first time I highlighted everything in yellow. This time I am highlighting everything in blue. Needless to say, I have a very colorful book. 3y

suvata I love this quote from when he was reading Emma: “Austen, I realized, had not been writing about everyday things because she couldn‘t think of anything else to talk about. She had been writing about them because she wanted to show how important they really are. All that trivia hadn‘t been marking time until she got to the point. It was the point.” #truth 3y

MaureenMc I‘m enjoying how the author is making me dive deeper into Austen‘s themes and really appreciate her incredible skill. 3y

quietjenn I'm very much enjoying the connections that he makes between reading Jane and "real life." 3y

KVanRead I decided to join in on the buddy read last minute and I‘m so glad I did. I can‘t believe how much this is resonating with me, especially the parts in ch. 2 about his relationship with his father... I‘m his father, lol! Letting my daughter make mistakes is so hard for me but reading this might be the wake up call I need, Nothing really new in what he says but something about the way he connects it to Austen really brought it home for me 3y

batsy I'm a bit behind so still in the midst of Chapter 1 but I am enjoying the little insights. I really liked the quote @suvata pointed out, too. And I think my own resistance to Emma in the past might have been because it was kind of an uncomfortable mirror, lol. 3y

sprainedbrain @MaureenMc I like that, too. I think may especially help me appreciate the books we haven‘t gotten to yet more (mainly Emma, since it was my least favorite before). 3y

Cuilin I‘m having mixed emotions and feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the Emma chapter, there‘s something about P&P that bothers me and I‘m noticing a theme that‘s making me irritated. I‘m trying to remember it‘s his experience reading the books so he‘s not wrong. I‘ll keep reading. 🤔 3y

inthegreensandblues That quote, "novel's worth of errors," really stuck with me too! I have really enjoyed the author's own journey so far, the facts about Austen's life and acquaintances, and the bit about Austen v. Romanticism (chuckled at the Jane Eyre v. P&P grad students, as I love both!). 3y
