Overall a good week. I‘ve walked 42.7 miles, spent lots of really good time gardening (my form of meditation!) listened to lots of podcasts & had success with reducing sweet snacking by focusing on what I can eat rather than fixating on what I can‘t eat.

The English language is so lacking at times- there should be a special word for that feeling of starting a new book, just opening page 1 and getting reading to meet everyone.

AlaMich German probably has a word for that. German seems to have a word for everything. 😉 2d

There‘s violence quietly boiling under ever sentence of this tight wound novel. The fact this is based on a real place, on real lives is devastating. These boys didn‘t have a chance to grow, to live or to become the men they were destined to be.

I‘ve been following the owners progress on this store on social media - so I had to visit today. She‘s only been open a few months. When it‘s raining - head to the bookstore!

There‘s been some controversy about this bookshop - it‘s a Waterstones ( a U.K. chain) but posing as an Independent. It‘s in keeping with the town character and there is no other new bookshop in the town so I‘m glad they have a bookshop even if it feels a little sneaky!

Hooked_on_books It is a little sneaky, but books is definitely better than no books. 1w
Mitch @Hooked_on_books I think so. If it meant a real independent store closed down because of this one I‘d think differently, but its bringing books to a town that didn‘t have books 1w

Disappearing Earth | Julia Phillips

Pickpick

The book opens with the abduction of two small girls and each chapter takes us a month at a time as the search continues. However, for me, the real beauty of this book is in the range of woman‘s experiences and being able to be part of their lives - even if only for the briefest time. Phillips clearly understand how to get under the skin of a place, you can feel the inhospitable, volcanic landscape, can‘t wait to see where she goes next.
