Hey my #SpookyGhostClub! I don‘t want to bombard you with too many posts and tags, so if you‘re on the lookout for more events happening this October, bingo boards to play, or Scarathlon posters… check out the link to the Google drive folder where we‘ve been saving everything. Feel free to add to it too, if you see we‘re missing anything! Happy haunting, my lovelies!

Another fun day to be a recruiter at Google! *insert sarcastic look here* - Today started with an ominous note and a last minute meeting added to our calendars, at which time we were informed that there would be a "significant reduction" to the recruiting org globally. We then had to wait a few hours to see if we got an email layoff notification. I did NOT lose my job today, but my motivation is gone and now I'm just looking for an escape hatch ?

I've been adrift since Friday but wanted to say thank you for the sweet messages on my last post. It's been incredibly tough (feels like it's been a month). My team was cut in HALF bc of Google's layoffs, during our busy season. So it's been a mix of grief, panic, 3x the work, and struggling to feel good about a company I was once proud to work for (but I also need to pay the bills). At least I read 20 books this month before it all went to shit!

Welp, Google is now the latest tech company to do mass layoffs. While I was personally not fired (yet, thankfully) it has been an AWFUL day to say the least. Slowly discovering which friends and colleagues got AN EMAIL at 4am to inform them. The seemingly random way they chose people, including high performers (like they threw darts at a board), has been disheartening. I have survivors guilt, fear for my future, and my anxiety is through the roof.

This week has been huge for me ya'll! I've done two separate contracts at Google over the last 3 years and this week I was converted to full-time - so now I'm officially a Googler! Ecstatic doesn't begin to cover it 😆

I still miss card catalogs.

The Google Doodle for #InternationalWomensDay also included some reading women images. Access to education is the most important first step in achieving equality for women worldwide. Malala Yousafzai and Michelle Obama, among many others, are doing great work to bring awareness to this issue.

Anyone want to know a way to score some $$ for feee ebooks/audiobooks? Download Google Opinion Rewards. You get surveys based on where you go or even google searches which are rewarded with various amounts of money. These can be used for in app purchases and google play store purchases. And what does google play store also sell? Ebooks/audiobooks. It may take a bit to add up but hey it takes barely effort and it's free!
Just thought I'd share 😁.

Not related to above book. #ArtFace google arts and culture app face matching art.

The BEST thing happened! After my job offer fell through with another company a few weeks ago, I got a call from Google (I had done a 2 year contract with them that ended 6 months ago) and they've asked me to come back for another contract! BOOM. This would have been my first choice anyways so I have half a mind to call the other co. back to say thanks. As much as it sucked, this is the biggest example for me of things happening for a reason! 😆

So not book related, but this is one of the things that has been taking up a lot of my time. I took my test today and PASSED!!! Now it's on to level 2!

Google Play offered me this $3 credit, and when I went to claim it, I was offered another credit of $5 towards any book over $5. Google Play is an enabler! And I can't pass this up. But now I have no idea what to get...why give me sooooo many options?!?!

I did enjoy this book but felt sections of it were a bit dry and repetitive. It was however unbiased and showed the massive growth of Google in such a small amount of time and the consequences to the companies which got left behind.

Little bit of non-fiction and tea to see me through a rainy Saturday! #tea #rain #ScottishWeather
