This series is so good. This one started a little slow for me but I was completely hooked by the end just like I have been for all the books in the Mike Bowditch series so far.

This book had me veering away from my typical thriller #botm selection. June picks are up!!
Just too bleak for me…I say as I just finished a gothic horror novel that I loved. This one just wasn‘t for me.
I really enjoyed this gothic horror, a retelling of Poe‘s “The Fall of the House of Usher”. It‘s always the 🍄 🍄🍄🍄 Love this cover too!!
This was such a wild book, I don‘t want to ruin any plot points for anyone with this review but I will say I haven‘t been able to finish a book in awhile and this solved my slump!! Safe travels and calm seas….🚢
Could this be a hint that The Spare Room is #botm June pick!?! Fingers crossed.
I forgot how much I enjoy the books in this series. Mike Bowditch certainly came through again! Looking forward to starting book 6.
Admittedly I‘m a little surprised this became a series. It wasn‘t particularly thrilling and definitely classifies as a slow burn for me. Lots of themes were wrapped in to this mystery: class, immigration, race. It just didn‘t grab me the way I expected.
This was very reminiscent of The Secret History but I enjoyed this one all the more for its links to Shakespeare and how the plays‘ themes were so interwoven in these college students‘ own experiences. And that ending!!!
The premise of this novel is definitely one that will hook you. I did figure out the twist pretty early on, which makes me wonder what that says about me. The MC is what ultimately made me dislike this book, she was So incredibly judgmental and yet when her judgement would have been warranted...
well...I don't want to ruin it.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Zando
Projects, Gillian Flynn Books for an ARC in return for my review.
This was an engaging thriller. It didn‘t feel especially high stakes, but I definitely wanted to find out the truth. #botm
Run to your nearest bookstore and buy this book. I kept thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it and couldn't wait to pick it back up to find out what happens to Sarah Slade and The Murder House; and let me tell you I didn't see any of it coming. I can't believe this is a debut, I'll be looking out for more from this author. 5⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for proving me an ARC in return for my honest feedback.
Maybe I‘m in a reading slump!?!? This was a slog for me and I really didn‘t care what was happening until mid way through where I cared only minimally. I also figured out the twists 🤷♀️.
I didn‘t enjoy this domestic thriller at all, I couldn‘t get invested and I didn‘t feel any connection to the characters. Maybe I‘m in a slump but this certainly didn‘t pull me out of it.
Excited for April #botm. They dropped early, happy picking! Camp Zero is a #readwithjenna pick and I‘ve enjoyed her picks in the past!
I absolutely devoured this latest Collins' book. I'm a big fan of psychological thrillers and this one doesn't disappoint. Great unexpected twists and two strong women who complement and learn from each other. What's not to love!?!
Many thanks to Atria Books and #netgalley for this ARC in return for my honest review.
This book was a very personal story to the author and I do feel at times it was a bit repetitive in the narrative it was exploring. That said I liked the way it explored ideologies taken too far.
One thing I absolutely love about this author's novels is that they never resolve themselves with an "of this world" explanation.
Many thanks to Random House Publishing
Group - Ballantine, Del Rey and NetGalley for an ARC in return for my honest review!
This was a memoir that showed the good and the bad in Demi‘s life. Her honesty and ability to dig deep are commendable and I greatly enjoyed her book. I love GI Jane, one of my favorite movies, so getting to hear more about the process, the reason she wanted to tell the story, and the reception (totally off base) was my favorite part.
Admittedly I was unaware that this was the latest in a series of books. That said, this book stands on its own, I only wish I‘d had more awareness of the character‘s motivations. This book starts off with such an interesting hook and disappointingly becomes secondary to the bigger plot point.
Thanks to Aria & Aries for granting me the opportunity to read this ARC via #Netgalley for my honest review. The bonus is I was introduced to a new series!
This novel eases in to its sense of foreboding until you are so invested in the outcome that you can‘t possibly put the book down. I really enjoyed this thriller that focuses on how a woman‘s body can feel like it‘s not her own during pregnancy and liked how the main character stayed rooted in her strength as a woman. 5 ⭐️
Thanks to Netgalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC for an honest review.
I took the plunge and made my March #aardvark pick. Seen a bunch of instagram reviews on this book so I hope I‘m in for a good time. I am really looking forward to a skip option at Aardvark. I don‘t want to cancel but I‘m not always 100% sold on the selections. I‘m going to let it play out a few more months bc I can‘t bring myself to quit.
I am so excited for this month‘s #botm box. I have to admit I‘m kind of bummed I wasn‘t picked for the expanded box access as a BFF because I could definitely have added more this month 😬
I really enjoyed this book; a searing indictment on imperialism and how it‘s built on the backs of others. Also an interesting way to show how powerful words can be. #botm
“To thine own self be true”…Hamlet is the play that had me fall in love with Shakespeare‘s writing and to have a book make its origin and meaning so profound was simply wonderful. I loved this reimagining and was utterly entranced by O‘Farrell‘s writing. 5 ⭐️
This book was absolutely absurd, and not in the right way. I almost did not finish it multiple times but finish it I did and boy…what a silly story.
I was very excited for this thriller by Alex North yet I caution the reader that the plot line jumps around A LOT. With the time shifts, numerous characters and view points it took me time to wrap my head around where I was in the plot and distracted me from enjoying the great thriller this could have been.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I thank Netgalley and Celdaon Books for giving me an advanced copy in return for my honest review.
I absolutely love Grady Hendrix and this story didn‘t disappoint. I‘ll never look at dolls the same. It was a great mix of horror, humor and heart. Hope he‘s writing another book soon, his books are the best!
I have to admit I wasn‘t super excited about this #aardvark pick but folks I was WRONG. I really enjoyed this debut thriller and would definitely like another book with Rita solving the crime.
This is nothing like the press is portraying it; he was more measured than I could have been in the same shoes. After reading this you‘ll certainly walk away with a different perception of the press and the monarchy. Oh and Camilla comes across exactly as I thought she would…horrendously.
I felt like this book dragged on and had a lot of lead up to then quickly transitioning to a rushed ending. I liked the 90s references sprinkled in but honestly found myself rushing through and oftentimes struggling with the dialogue.
Book 1 of 2023 complete. Happy New Years Litsy. I really enjoy Peter Swanson books and this one was reminiscent of “And Then There We‘re None”.
This was a 2022 read I forgot to review!! I really enjoyed the characters of this book and will definitely be trying out the first book. #botm
The ending has ruined the book for me; I need more closure!!! The journey was an interesting one and kept me engaged. I agree with some of the reviews that it ran long in parts. All I could think of while reading this was the Ramsay case (like @swishandflick has mentioned), it makes sense the author has woven in aspects of that case given they are a true crime podcaster.
I have a confession. I started this book last year and set it aside. I got 200 plus pages in this year and jumped to the last chapter. I‘m considering it a book I‘ve read, guess it could be considered a bail, but I feel like I invested time and get the gist so it counts. #botm
January #botm confirmed!! Hoping some of the others wind up as $1.99 ebook sales 😝
Another great addition to this series. I‘m very hopeful there will be a book 4 because I love visiting with this cast of characters.
This was an interesting horror/thriller that I actually didn‘t figure out all the twists in advance. I also really enjoyed the drawings they added in to the story line. They made for interesting additions.
I always love revisiting Three Pines and this time it was a nail biter of a visit. I loved the layered pieces to this story and how each character played their roles to a tee. I can‘t wait to revisit again.
The new series on Amazon Prime is great too!!
I‘m so pleased with my #aardvark subscription and how they keep introducing me to books I wouldn‘t have otherwise stumbled on. This book was so much more than I anticipated; who knew mathematics could be so layered. While sci-fi based it‘s the complex relationships that drive this story. A strong pick for me!
