#AyUpAugust #Day13 #Rain Catching up again on this months challenge, bear with me. In this lovely Australian novel, 16yr old Stephanie has been dragged from Sydney to remote Maatsuyker Island off the Tasmanian coast for a six month stint recording weather conditions, including lots of rain & storms. After the death of her twin brother, the family hope that the isolation will help to bring them back together as a family. Beautiful story told well.

squirrelbrain Sounds wonderful - you do keep making me stack books! ❤️ 1w

When I think of #rain, I think of rainy days & what happens when The Cat in the Hat shows up & wreaks havoc in the house of two bored children. A classic childrens rainy day story. ☔️💦

Cinfhen Love this💕💕💕💕💕so many good memories attached to this book 🎩 2w

(Day 13 - #Rain)

*Scenes from Bellow‘s “Henderson the Rain King”: Henderson‘s trip to Africa has an inauspicious beginning when he attempts to help the village leaders by ridding the cistern of frogs. He is successful at eliminating the frogs, but unfortunately he also rids them of their cistern. Further travels find Henderson in deep philosophical conversation with King Dahfu, who is urged by the elders to find a lion. RIP Dahfu.

squirrelbrain Great choice! I haven‘t read any Bellow - do you recommend or not? 2w
gradcat @squirrelbrain I read it so long ago, but I like everything he wrote. I feel like you would enjoy them, too, given what I‘ve seen of your reading choices. ♥️ (edited) 2w

One of my favourite books written by Maeve Binchy. #Rain #AyUpAugust

Tove_Reads What??? I thought it was Quentins 2w
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads I do like Quentins a lot but on balance my favourites would be Heart and Soul and this one. 2w
Tove_Reads Aaah, I read too fast. Thought this was the next buddy read. Quentins is staring at me, sitting there disapproving on my nightstand 😂 (edited) 2w

squirrelbrain Great pick! I‘ve read most Binchy books, but I‘m not sure I remember this one...🤔 It‘d be one of those where I remember as soon as I start reading it! 2w

Tagged book is the closest I could get to #rain, but the lyrics made me realise that I could do a collage of different weather phenomena! #ayupaugust @Cinfhen @squirrelbrain

The Need | Helen Phillips
post image

1. Yes, normally I listen to audiobooks and watch the sunrise, but today there‘s heavy #rain, lightning, and thunder. The Need is creeping me the F out, so I kept the blinds closed and read a print book.

2. No, not really. I get the most reading done when I‘m the only one in the house, and that happens unpredictably!

Cinfhen It‘s meant to #rain here today 😣do u like scary stories??? I‘m too chicken 🐔 2w
TheSpineView 😊 Happy Tuesday! 2w
Megabooks @Cinfhen Are you still in the US? I don‘t like scary stories where people are dismembered/tortured, but usually I can do creepy pretty well. I‘ve read Phillips‘s other books, so I kind of knew what to expect, but that still doesn‘t mean I need to read it during a thunderstorm! 😉 2w
Cinfhen I can do creepy too but nothing sadistic or violent. I can‘t stomach that. Yup, I‘m still here!! Going back last week of August. 2w

The Grapes of Wrath | John Steinbeck
post image

A lack of #rain in the US Midwest, along with what is termed the Great Depression, is the setting for this classic. Describing the struggles those with no land and no money faced, Steinbeck chronicles one particular family in their quest to go to California, the state that may just have jobs. It‘s quite a depressing tale, but one that captures the desperation so many felt during this time. One can almost taste the dust in the air... #ayupaugust

squirrelbrain Great choice! ❤️ 2w
Cinfhen I need to reread this book. Since reading and enjoying East of Eden, I‘d like to give Steinbeck another chance 😉 2w
