I love this time period all the way through the 1940's. The lives of the artists, composers, writers and entertainers are fascinating, and behind it all Paris. 💗💗💗 That being said this book was pure candy. I have ordered every McAuliffe book based on this one book.

I went back and forth between a pick and a so-so and decided that I like Auntie Poldi so much she gets a pick just for being who she is. 😂 The mystery part was okay. I think I will give the next book in the series a try.

AlaMich I find that quite often with cozies. The mystery is meh, but the characters/setting are so well-done, you don‘t mind. (edited) 3d

I had to finish to find out what really happened. Without saying too much or give anything away, the ending had a couple of surprises one being heart wrenching. 😢 It was an interesting concept of a mysterious house that brings people across time together through love, tragedy, and greed. I liked it.

Talk about a movie being different from the book! This book was written in 1978 and it was updated to fit in with our digital times. It's a shame because I would've liked to have read the original.

I read this years ago and remembered liking it. After rereading now it left me sad for a man who could have had such a different end if he listened to the people who truly loved him. Still a great book though.

DaveNeufeld My mother told me she read it when I was a baby and stopped walking at night afterward (we lived in the country). I read it little while back and didn‘t think it was scary at all. Sometimes I think she misremembered and it was actually Pet Sematary that scared her 🤔 1mo
rretzler I read it when it first came out in paperback, so I was 12. Between it and Dracula (which I read at age 9), I now have a phobia of vampires 🧛🏻‍♀️ 🤣. Pet Sematary also scared me, but the rest of King that I read in my teen and pre-teen years really didn‘t faze me. 1mo
Rachbb3 @rretzler I thought Dracula was creepy as well. With all the fluffy vampire stories out there, it's going to be fun to read an actual scary one. 😀 1mo
