Orquídea Divina has lived a life her grandchildren and family don‘t know anything about until she invited them to her funeral and to collect their inheritance.

I loved this magical realism story. The writing and characters were amazing and I loved how intricate the author was in weaving stories inside this story. The story kind of reminded me of Stardust but completely it‘s own at the same time. Probably be rereading this book a lot.

Charlie Vega wants to have a good relationship with her body but it‘s hard when you are coming of age in a Connecticut suburb and your mother continues to leave weight loss shakes for you.

I really enjoyed this story and Charlie‘s issues with her body image. There were times that I wanted to knock Charlie around cause she is so hard on herself but aren‘t we all like this? Always comparing ourselves to others.

That-Bookish-Hiker I felt with Charlie towards the end and understand what she was going through with all those negative thoughts she was having about herself. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2y

Nella Rogers works in the publishing business in NYC and the only black girl who works there. Until Hazel, another black girl, joins and Nella is so happy to meet her but then weird things start to happen making Nella question everything.

I enjoyed this book and the topic of internalized racism and how deeply it affects BIPOC but there were too many side stories and characters that it would take me out of the story.

16 yr old Quinn Hardwick‘s is having a tough summer in Seattle and to make it worse her former childhood friend moves back.

Quinn was a lot annoying but I had to remind myself she is 16 yrs old. It was ridiculed her to blame Wesley for her parents divorcing. Her father was the one who cause the split but she refused to see that. Which was a little frustrating. But I liked her friends and it was set in Seattle so that was a plus.

Seeing Maggie growth is the book was my fav thing in this books beside the obvious 90s music name drops. This book was very nostalgic even if I‘ve never visited Ireland, the music alone brought me there in the story. This story had heavy situations like suicide and drugs that tied in with the music.

This is the 6th book ins the series! It didn‘t disappoint. For a small group of people living in the wilderness a lot of dead bodies sure show up out of no where.

I initially thought this was just going to be a repeat of all the other books in the series but of course there was a fresh new take on it. There are some parts that get redundant but those help you haven‘t read the other books in the series yet. Couldn‘t put the book down.

This book is a short story of a group of childhood friends that grew up under the shadow of dictatorship in Chile in 1980s.

While the story is short it def makes it point in the 70 pages it took to tell these children‘s chilling story of growing up and realizing the political agenda of toners infiltrating your life.

More below 👇🏽

This Jane tries too hard to fit in and be rich like everyone else and she fell in love so fast with Eddie and just let him walk all over her. While this book deals with heavy subject matters like the very flawed immigration system here and the racism, I felt the book lacked Zara‘s voice as a character. Pickpick

Here‘s what happens when your mother dies. It‘s the brightest day of summer and it‘s dark outside. It‘s dark in your house, dark in your room and dark in your heart. You feel like the darkness is going to split you apart.

This book really broke my heart. Tiger is only 16 when her mother suddenly passes away. I loved the way this author wrote about grief while also highlighting all the children who are wards of the state.

Moonprismpower I‘m about a quarter the way through this. I‘m really struggling to pick it up. 😬😬😬 3y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Moonprismpower I struggled through this as well. The subject matter was very heavy and kind of slow at some points. I ended up taking a break the whole week from it. Then early one weekend morning I couldn‘t the put it down and finished it. 3y
Moonprismpower Okay I‘ll just get have back up optimistic books and maybe a good uplifting movie to watch after reading. 3y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Moonprismpower oh yes! I watched the last season of Super Store afterwards and that helped. Def taking long breaks in between helped me. 3y

Pickpick

It‘s been 7 years since Tress Montors parents disappeared without a trace and she knows only one person with them that night that knows what happened, her ex best friend- Felicity Turnado. She‘ll get her truth even if she has to trap Felicity one brick at a time.

Wow! This book! It‘s was freaking nutso but in such a good way. After that cliffhanger I need book 2 now! This author is always an auto buy for me. Really enjoy her writing.

Smangela I completely agree, this book ate me up!! 3y
Hooked_on_books I‘ve read a couple of hers and they were really good. She really grabs you by the throat and makes you pay attention! I strongly suspect I‘ll end up reading all her books eventually. 3y
