Nute Good to know that the movie did not disappoint. I always conclude after seeing movie adaptations of his books that it must be a great challenge to capture his imagination on film. He is a fantastic storyteller! 1mo

I just couldn‘t resist picking up this sequel since a coworker raves about it, and it‘s been popping up everywhere since; hopefully I enjoy it as much! #kingnovels #doctorsleep #tbr

TrishB I think it‘s way better than The Shining 👍🏻 5mo

#colormepretty #GreenAndRed
The color reminded me of Christmas automatically but I'll go with one of my #CurrentRead / Reread
This turned out to be a slower read than I've remembered 😅 & it's doesn't help when you knew the plot already. It's still a great book & love King's writing ...But Im afraid I prefer #DoctorSleep a little more 🙈

Besides the ones I haven‘t finished in June, here‘s My new #CurrentRead for July. I‘m sure I‘ve read it back in high school centuries ago! 😂 But TBH I don‘t remember much 😆 So it‘s good to read it again with this new edition 📚💚 And I can‘t wait for the movie #DoctorSleep (Love the book!)
Will you be watching the movie?

Jari-chan Truly one of Kings best works! ❤️ 7mo
TrishB Great cover 👍🏻 I hadn‘t realised they were making a Dr Sleep. I‘m not really a film person but I loved the book. 7mo

scripturient I recently bought the same edition because I want to reread the book. I read it in high school as well i.e. what seems like a lifetime ago. :) 7mo
BooknerdsLife @Jari-chan Yes! Love all his older works! I remember being really scared by this one too 😆🙈 7mo
BooknerdsLife @TrishB Same here! I still haven‘t watched the Shinning the movie 😂🙈 But really love the book Dr Sleep & so am curious about it this time 😁 7mo
BooknerdsLife @scripturient Happy reread to you 🙌🏼📚💚 😂😂Hahaaa I‘m sure I‘m much older ...everything from high school are just a bit hazy...kind of a blur to me now 😂😂 7mo
rretzler I read his first several books when they came out and then I think somewhere in HS outgrew the horror genre. I would also like to read Dr Sleep though because I did enjoy The Shining. My favorite King by far though is 7mo
JennyM You have the perfect set up there! 7mo
Jee_HookedOnBookz Hi Eliza! Do you have an email which you download your kindle books? 7mo
scripturient @BooknerdsLife LOL! I know what you mean. 🤣 I‘m 43 so yes, high school is a bit of a blur by now. 🤣🤣 7mo
BooknerdsLife @rretzler Same! I haven‘t read any Kings books for many years til Doctor Sleep and really loved it! Hope you‘ll enjoy it too 🤗 Ah! I have The Stand in my bookshelf for years but too intimidated to read it yet 😆 7mo
BooknerdsLife @JennyM Thank you 😄💕💖 7mo
BooknerdsLife @Jee_HookedOnBookz Hello Jee my sweet friend 🤗💕 How are you doing? Yes I do have a few email add for my Kindle ... here‘s one : eliza.cheung_85dec9@kindle.com 7mo
BooknerdsLife @Jee_HookedOnBookz or does it has to be the one I normally receive my books from? 🙈 7mo
BooknerdsLife @scripturient 😂😂😂 Exactly! 7mo
rretzler Other than the fact that The Stand is a chunkster, it‘s not scary like a lot of his other work. It‘s really more of a dystopian SciFi novel with elements of the supernatural happening mainly in the second half. I‘ve always liked the book, but felt that some of the supernatural stuff could have been left out and the book would have been a perfect dystopian work. 7mo
Jee_HookedOnBookz @BooknerdsLife the one that you get your ebooks ☺️ 7mo
BooknerdsLife @rretzler Hahaa it‘s the size of the book that scares me off reading it 😅🙈That tomb of a book is quite intimidating 😅 7mo

And finally Question 4! #TheShining #BookToScreen

Jess7 I can‘t really answer this because I didn‘t read the book, but I did enjoy the movie. I like movies that make you think and so I enjoyed this aspect of it despite the supernatural parts of it. I have a few exceptions of movies and books that have supernatural aspects that I still like. For example - Donnie Darko is one of my favorite movies and it‘s all about the supernatural 2y
MinDea @Jess7 I love Donnie Darko. Such a great movie! 2y
kamoorephoto I have yet to read the book too (don‘t hate), but Kubrick is/was a masterful storyteller and filmmaker, one of my favorites. There‘s a reason this film is on the AFI 100 list. Something that‘s always said in the film world (I used to work on movies) is that you can‘t make a good movie out of a bad script, and here you had a great book. But Kubrick is also a great director. Some of King‘s movies have been flops. Bad script?! 2y

EllieDottie I think the largest difference is the slower tension build up in the novel and the slower deterioration of jack. I did like Nicholson's portrayal though, unlike King (edited) 2y
TricksyTails I love them both but the book is always better in my opinion. I think the book is a slower pace so maybe Kubrick needed to add things in to make it more thrilling. There are so many things in the movie that are scarier than the book. I love Danny more in the book and I love Jack more in the movie. 2y
kamoorephoto Has anyone read #DoctorSleep? 2y
MinDea @EllieDottie did you like the movie? Did you find that if you hadn't read the book some of it would not have made sense or was not easy to understand? 2y
MinDea @kamoorephoto I have not. @TricksyTails have you? 2y
TricksyTails @MinDea @kamoorephoto I've read Doctor Sleep. 2y
kamoorephoto @TricksyTails What did you think?? 2y
TricksyTails @kamoorephoto Have you read it already? Trying to see how much I can say without spoiling anything. 2y
kamoorephoto No I haven‘t....so you can only say a little!!! 2y
MinDea @TricksyTails what is Dr Sleep About? Do you recommend it and where does it rank with his other stuff? @kamoorephoto have you read any King books? 2y
TricksyTails @kamoorephoto ? Haha okay I'll do my best! Doctor Sleep is the sequel to The Shining. It's basically an answer to "I wonder what happened to Danny Torrance..." It's well-written with good characters and has supernatural elements. Not scary. I enjoyed it as an entertaining read but did not enjoy it as a "sequel" to The Shining, if that makes any sense. Good book, though. 2y
TricksyTails For what Doctor Sleep is about see my response above. I'd recommend it. As far as where it ranks with the rest of his stuff, that's hard to say. For me, not one of my all-time favorites but definitely enjoyable. If I rank according to his more recent books, below the Hodges trilogy but above Revival. 2y
MinDea I did not know it was sequel-esque to The Shining. Interesting. Now I get the ask @kamoorephoto !! Thanks for the review of it @TricksyTails !! 2y
TricksyTails Sorry I'm terrible at reviewing, especially when trying not to reveal spoilers. Hope that helps somewhat @kamoorephoto 2y
MinDea I thought it was great info @TricksyTails ! I am going to add it to my wishlist now! 2y
EllieDottie @mindea I did like the movie, but I think that was because I could add a lot of the context! I do feel like I would have been confused though without the context I had the book! (edited) 2y
Crystalblu I can see why King didn't like the movie. That being said, I love them both! I'm actually ordering the photo from the end of the movie for my husband ;) The book gives us so much more insight into the family. And the movie is just straight up twisted! 2y

I changed it. I had to. Do you know why?" She studied him, her eyes grave. "Because that was then and this is now. Because the past is gone, even though it defines the present."
