THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO is my project book for 2026, chosen because I generally have a grand ol‘ time with Dumas and because he and I became instant bros after I visited his tomb last year. (Yes, that‘s how it works. Unless the tomb-occupant did really shitty stuff like, say, reinstate slavery, NAPOLEON.)

Also, it‘s really frickin long.

Quick question for the #hashtagbrigade
The votes are still coming in, but the top 2 right now are both chunksters. How do we feel about that? The tagged book will take almost 4 months to read a chapter a day, and Anna Karenina has 239 chapters! Would everyone be willing to do Anna Karenina alongside whatever other books we are reading? Maybe start it in February as its on buddy read? Thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks to StoryGraph, I see that The Count of Monte Cristo is my answer, at about 1,276 pages. I read it in 2015. I loved the 2011- 2015 TV show Revenge. I learned it was based on this classic. I had put it off due to the length, but really enjoyed it and was happy I dove in. #SundayFunday

I have read and enjoyed a lot of 1000+ page books! Highly HIGHLY recommend The Count here for fun and adventure. 🌟 🏔️ 📚

I was thinking about this book the other day. A coworker wanted me to read it with her after I moved to Hawaii. I always laugh because other coworkers wanted to join our impromptu book club but voted on the next book being Dead Until Dark (the first Sookie Stackhouse book) & then after a few of those, we read the newly released Twilight. We never made it back to the classics! 🤣

I picked this up on a whim, and am pleasantly surprised to see how much I'm enjoying it so far. Unfortunately, it seems I've an abridged version, as it's only 500 something pages. I guess if I really end up enjoying it I will look for the unabridged version in the future

It is amazing how one can read a book of 1105 pages and still feel melancholy that there is no more left to read. Dumas does well to state “Fac et spera“ in his closing sentence, but that is best understood when weighed in the balance with Ecclesiastes.

Dumas is a definite favorite. I have never been disappointed with his work.

Yesterday my friends and i went to Detroit and visited the John K. King Rare & Used bookstore, and this was my haul. I took a lot of photos... wish I could share them here. It's the largest bookstore in Michigan and second largest in the country

I truly enjoyed my time with the Count of Monte Cristo/Edmond Dantes. I anxiously awaited the famous prison break, which was everything I hoped for. There are so many characters, at times it felt like I was reading several different stories. The book pretty much covers Dantes‘ entire life, yet at the end I wanted there to be more. I liked the ending, and yet, I feel like there is more story to be told.

Hello all… Sorry I‘m running so late with my reads from March. I did not complete any of my #Roll100 for March, but I added them to my April lineup. I completed my #DoubleBookSpin for #BookSpinBingo & my #BookSpin will be read in April as well. I know it wasn‘t the best month for reading because I got sick with pneumonia, but I felt like I did OK overall. I also had a little Ruby Dixon marathon, which was fun.

This was an excellent read. It took me a while to finish reading it, but it was worth it. It was so exciting and the ending was truly great. I‘m so glad that I finally got to read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I did it!🎉 It only took 10 months 😅. The beginning was great, it drug in the middle, but the ending wrapped it all up so well! I don't know if I can enjoy the movie anymore now that I know the true ending. My advice to others- keep a character list handy at all times!

You‘d think since it took me 4+ months to read, this wasn‘t one I was too keen on but I really enjoyed it. I found the audio needed a lot of concentration, though so it wasn‘t what I turned on most days. I wish I had made a point to go for a walk for an hour every days to stay focused on it but maybe next time!

I know this is going to sound weird, but Edmond Dantes reminds me a lot of the Cat in the Hat, balancing stuff and saying "but that is not ALL I can do!"; mixed with Friar Lawrence from Romeo and Juliet and that man your parents warned you about that was going to give you drugs for free; all sprinkled with the biggest flair for drama that you can imagine...and honestly, if that doesn't sell this book to you I don't know what more do you want

A plot of revenge, and a little bit more. This is truly a wonderful classic that, while wordy and descriptive, is touching. How someone who has been wronged can fight for the rights of others and yet also find peace from their past. It‘s a wonderful book of coming to tranquility and acceptance of life‘s challenges and finding joy through difficulties.

Moral wounds have thus peculiarity - they may be hidden, but they never close; always painful, always ready to bleed when touched, they remain fresh and open in the heart.
