Happy Tuesday! This ending was so good. I can‘t wait to see where the next book takes us. That being said, how is everyone progressing? I‘m wondering if you would all like to take an extra week to catch up or should I just keep moving forward? I know this was a hard one to get into. I will leave it up to you. I‘ll check back later today to see where everyone stands. #CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 I loved this ending also- I‘m getting very excited as it seems Kaladin & Shallan are going to meet at some point???? I‘m very excited to be with these characters for hopefully many more books! I‘m fine with whatever schedule you think is best! 4d
Meshell1313 Also- I did not see that Sadeas betrayal coming at all! I don‘t know why I‘m still surprised that Sanderson can surprise me! 4d

rabbitprincess I‘d like an extra week to catch up 😂 on page 1018 of 1252, so I am still in Part 4 4d
JacqMac @Meshell1313 Right? I didn‘t see that coming either. I love the way he surprises me. 4d
JacqMac @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess Okay. I‘m going to give everyone the week. My TBR is growing faster than I can keep up with anyway. But that‘s nothing new. I do have a few things I‘d like to catch up on though. I will post the schedule for next book next Tuesday. Hopefully the extra time will help everyone. 4d
rabbitprincess @JacqMac Woo hoo, thanks so much! 4d
Leniverse I just finished part 3 so I appreciate the extra week 😅 It's definitely moving faster now, fortunately. It's been a slog. I know the next book is, by many fans, considered Sanderson's best, so I'm excited for that. 3d
Leniverse Aaand, I'm done. Wow. Can't wait for the showdown between Kaladin and Szeth. They're opposite sides of the same coin, aren't they. Szeth has abdicated all personal responsibility and calls it honour. Some massive surprises in this part. As for Talenel, I admit I thought maybe he was Odium! Being abandoned to an eternity in hell by your comrades seems like a decent villain origin story. But I guess not 😅 11h

Not my favorite King. But if you read the afterword he agrees that it isn‘t his best work. It‘s lacking soemthing. That being said, it‘s still pretty good. And Holly is probably his best character ever.

And there are the Sanderson twists that suck you all the way in. He still surprises me. I‘m shocked that I fell in love with this story. It really wasn‘t speaking to me in the beginning, but I‘m really glad that I kept going. This week‘s part is very short, but I‘m hoping it will give everyone some extra time to catch up.
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 I completely agree with you! I can‘t wait to see where he goes with this in book 2. I‘m hopeful now that all of our characters will meet and be together at some point! I think Shallan‘s story surprised me the most. 2w

Leniverse I'm not sure I'm commenting on the right post now, but I stayed up way too late last night reading part 4. I had planned on leaving some of it for today, but couldn't stop 😂 So only the really short (50 pages?) final part left now. So much action in this part! 13h
Leniverse Great character development for Kaladin and Dalinar (they are quite similar, aren't they, wallowing in their guilt) And finally some surprises. Not so much Sedeas, he was clearly a snake, but the saddle strap, Dalinar's sword, the reason why the King is so paranoid, and I have so many questions about the Parshendi! 13h

“I dreamed that I dreamed about the musty grey soil of the island and the sweet perfume it emits after rainfall, a double remove from a place I will never visit again. My mother explained to me once… We find the scent comforting, she told me, because we want to believe there‘ll be a welcoming place for us one day, when we‘re buried deep inside it.”
Phenomenal. John Boyne never disappoints me.

If you‘re having trouble with this one, just keep going. I‘m all sucked in now. Part 3 is where it all turned around for me. I‘m having trouble putting it down now. I‘m loving both Kal and Shallan‘s storylines.
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Same!!! I‘m also trying not to predict what will happen to both of them because I know Sanderson will do what I least expect. I‘m hooked now though- am super curious to see how this ends knowing it‘s a trilogy. I‘m excited to hopefully be with Kaladin, Shallan and our guy Wit throughout the next 2 books! There‘s so much more to Kaladin‘s backstory I know we are missing! 3w
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I‘m curious, too, but I also know he will surprise us. lol There are actually 5 Stormlight novels published and Sanderson says he has 5 more planned, so we are just beginning this journey. I hope there is a lot more Wit coming up, too. I really like him. 3w
See All 11 Comments
rabbitprincess Whew finally finished Part 3! I agree, it‘s really knitted together well now. Wondering if Szeth will be promoted to regular text rather than the interludes. Also do we have any theories about where the quotes at the beginning of each chapter come from? 5d
Leniverse @rabbitprincess My guess is that the quotes are from Jasnah's notebook. 3d
Leniverse @Meshell1313 I really hope Sanderson will do something unexpected soon! 720 pages and the most surprising thing has been Teft seemingly having belonged to some cult that awaits the return of the Lost Radiants. I also hope for a bit less existential angst in the rest of the book. I love both Kaladin and Shallan but they're so young and messy. 3d
Leniverse The most pressing questions I have at this point: Is Kaladin's reluctance to touch a shardblade something more than survivor's guilt? Szeth refers to the blade as a "creation of Damnation". Are Kaladin's powers the same as Szeth's? Are Shallan's? Are the creatures she's seeing Voidbringers or something else? Are Voidbringers a type of spren? Why is Jasnah so sure the lost city isn't on the shattered plains? What else are they hiding out there? 3d
JacqMac @Leniverse So many good questions! Some will be answered, but I‘m still wondering about a few. I don‘t want to say much until you‘re finished. lol 3d
Leniverse @JacqMac I'll dive right back in. After my kindle has finished charging 😂 3d
Meshell1313 @Leniverse yes!!!! Excellent questions and def after you will left with even more questions! 😂 I love your ideas about the beginnings of each chapter and there is 100% more to Kaladin‘s story that I hope we learn! I‘m also hoping all of the characters meet up at some point! I feel like their story lines have potential to converge- like each character has a piece of the puzzle maybe. 3d
Leniverse @Meshell1313 This definitely has the feel of a "if only they would talk to each other and share information" kinda story, yes. I wish Shallan had shown her drawings to Jasnah. I need Shallan, Kaladin, and Dalinar to compare visions. And for those ardents on on that little island who are doing quantum mechanic studies on spren to have a look at Sky (or maybe not if that would freeze her development) ? 3d

It took me all week to get through this part. But I finally feel like a have a grasp on it all. It was a lot for my little brain to hold on to. And I‘m forever grateful that we didn‘t start with this one. I think my biggest question is, what happened that made Dalinar forget his wife so completely?
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Yes I totally agree that this one took longer to get into. I also finally feel after part 2 that I am getting it. My questions are who was Kaladin before he became a slave? And is Szeth some type of Kandra??? 4w

rabbitprincess Just finished Part 2! I liked seeing how the different stories are finally starting to connect. I got a bit restless, because Shallan‘s story is my favourite, but sitting with Dalinar for a while was rewarding. Also how cool is the spanreed! It reminds me of the LongPen 😂 2w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess It all starts to fit after part 2. I love the idea of a spanreed. My brain was all “they are texting!” lol 2w
Leniverse I finally got through this second part. It's so drawn out. Gah! I kept just reading different books instead. I'm going to try to push through part 3 this weekend. I'm sure it all builds up to lots of twists and action, but it doesn't really hold my interest on the way there. Glad to hear people are finding it easier from pt. 3 onwards. 1w

Part one. I had a busy week, but I managed to finish this part last night. I‘m not sure how I feel about it yet. But I could probably use a character index. Though I always tend to have trouble with fantasy names until I‘m about halfway in, so maybe that‘s just me.
#CosmereBuddyRead

rabbitprincess Yeah, from what I‘ve read so far (about 50 pages), I feel like there are more characters to keep track of than in Mistborn. I wonder too if the epic timescale makes everything feel bigger (the fact that 4000 years pass between the prelude and the prologue, for instance) 1mo
Leniverse I needed to let Warbreaker settle for a couple of days before going into this, but I'll try not to fall a whole book behind again 😬😅 I have heard that this series is more challenging than Mistborn, but I'm prepared to take notes if need be 😂 Meanwhile, is everyone keeping an eye out for Hoid? 😉 1mo
See All 33 Comments
JacqMac @rabbitprincess Right? It‘s a big span of time. 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse Yes, I am. I spotted him already. lol And I might need notes, too. 1mo
Meshell1313 Ok I totally agree! This one is harder for me to get sucked into. There are A LOT of characters who I am hoping will all get together at some point? I like your ideas about keeping notes. I‘m hopeful it will pick up soon as Sanderson hasn‘t disappointed me yet! Whose story line is your favorite so far?? 1mo
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess 4000 years in the blink of an eye, or at least the blink of an page! 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse I felt the same too, so I am not finished this section yet either but I have started! 1mo
Meshell1313 @Andrew65 @Leniverse @JacqMac @rabbitprincess ok it took a minute but now I‘m hooked. I‘m in love with Kaladin and curious about Shallan. I also love how the beginning page of each part lets you know whose stories you will be getting. That chart @JacqMac posted is going to come in handy real soon! 💕 1mo
Andrew65 @Meshell1313 Having a bit more trouble getting into this one, and only just finished chapter 5. @JacqMac 1mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 It took me a bit to get into this one. I‘m hooked now. But it took me until Part 2 to really start to feel it. 1mo
Meshell1313 @JacqMac yes exactly!!! 1mo
Andrew65 @JacqMac @Meahekl1313 Good to know, and especially that it‘s not just me. (edited) 1mo
Leniverse @rabbitprincess @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @JacqMac We really get thrown into the deep end with a lot of confusing world building with this one! The other books I felt I had a grasp of the world pretty quickly, but not so here. I'm only up to ch.4 though, and I am very intrigued by Kaladin, so I'm not in complete despair 😂 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse I‘m still struggling to get a grasp on everything and am on chapter 7. 1mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 @Leniverse @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess It does take a bit more effort. I like that I can see how his skills improved as he became a more seasoned writer. I‘m really glad we didn‘t start with this one though. I think a lot of people might have given up on him. lol 4w
rabbitprincess @JacqMac Haha I agree, Mistborn was much more accessible 😂 I can‘t remember, where did you find or how did you put together the reading order we‘re following? 4w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I read A LOT of blog posts and Instagram posts. lol There are many list. I mostly followed this list though. It was the closest agreed upon order when I looked at everything together. https://thequilltolive.com/2025/02/03/cosmere-reading-order/ 4w
Leniverse Finally finished this first part. I've realised that it's not the characters or even the confusing setting, it's the lack of plot direction. In Mistborn we had overthrowing an evil god-emperor and saving the world, in Warbreaker it was preventing a war. Here there's just survival. Yes, there's some political shenanigans in the background that I'm sure will become important, but 180 pages in we don't actually know what the story is about yet. 3w
Leniverse I have to laugh at myself asking people to look out for Hoid, just to discover that that's exactly what is happening in the interlude 😂 Also, I'm getting serious Chosen One vibes from Kal. He should have been dead 100 times over. Clearly he has a Destiny.
@rabbitprincess @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @JacqMac
3w
Meshell1313 @Leniverse oooh I think you hit the nail right on its head! Hang in there- I find it much better in part 2! 3w
JacqMac @Leniverse It does get better. I do think Sanderson‘s skill got better in his later books. You can almost see him getting better as you read. And yes, Kal clearly is destined for something important. 3w
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 @JacqMac @Andrew65 @Leniverse I finally finished Part 1 yesterday! My favourite storyline so far is Shallan‘s. I cannot WAIT to see how she pulls off her objective (if she does). And I love the drawings, although they are a bit small in paperback. I like the small details that emphasize the otherworldliness: the chulls in particular. Crustaceans as pack animals! Wild 😄 3w
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I just finished part 3 this morning. I couldn‘t put it down. I find myself wondering what a chull tastes like. lol 3w
Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess Yes she‘s one of my favs for sure! I also am squinting to try and read all the tiny print in the drawings in the paperback version! 3w
Meshell1313 @JacqMac I also finished part 3! Can‘t wait for our discussion on Tuesday! It‘s finally at the I can‘t put it down place that I love about Sanderson! I‘m glad this book got there! 3w
Leniverse @rabbitprincess The drawings are making me wish I had a paper edition instead of kindle, so it's "nice" to hear that they are too small in the paperback as well ? I can't read the picture text at all, and I'm considering looking up the images online but I'm afraid of spoilers 3w
Andrew65 @rabbitprincess I‘m still playing catch up and on the second part. 3w
rabbitprincess @JacqMac Need to melt a LOT of butter for one of those 😂 3w
rabbitprincess @Andrew65 Same, I‘m a couple of chapters into Part 2. I may have a long bus ride tomorrow (have to go to a different office for the day), so hoping for some good reading time 😆 3w

Meshell1313 I loved this one and the ending! Lightsong‘s storyline was my favorite and his ending I thought was perfection. I am also pleased with Vivenna and Vasher‘s ending kind of walking off together to who knows where- but you know she can‘t ever go back to her old life. 1mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 This one might be my favorite so far. I loved the ending, too. I agree Lightsong‘s whole storyline was absolute perfection. 1mo

Andrew65 I have finally caught up, yee haw!!!
I agree with you both @meshell1313 and @jacqmac this was an excellent book and my favourite so far. I loved the very feel of it from the get go. As well as Lightsong and his story, I really enjoyed the moments between Siri and Susebron, and their developing relationship. I‘m really not ready to let these characters go.
1mo
Leniverse Wow, what a finale. Once I started this part I couldn't put the book down 😅 I thought I had things figured out, but I was mostly wrong. E.g. I thought Lightsong was Idrian 😂 I did guess Vasher's real identity though, although he had me confused for a while. I'm glad Viv asked for clarification in the end, to get it confirmed. And I really hope Sanderson gets around to the sequel soon! 1mo
Leniverse I even thought Blushweaver was faking her torture, to trick Lightweaver 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was more paranoid than Viv at the end. And yet I didn't guess at who the mastermind was. I should have. The signs were all there, even the lack of knowledge about their religious beliefs. I was sure that was significant, and still I was surprised. This was so well done. @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @JacqMac 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse It was so well done. I didn‘t guess any of it either. I was also suspicious of Blushweaver. I am really hoping for a sequel, too. I want more of the characters. 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse From what I read somewhere will be 2027 for a sequel at the earliest, and that it wouldn‘t be so much a sequel as including the stories of one or two characters from this book. (edited) 1mo
Leniverse @Andrew65 That's a shame. What I've seen is that there's to be a sequel called Nightblood, following Vasher and Viv (and the sword, obvs), but that it wasn't due until after several other books. I was hoping he'd been inspired to move it forward 😂 But maybe this is an extra, then? Like a 1.5 novella, or 0.5 backstory? 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse We should write to him and tell him how urgent it is for us to read it. 😂 1mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 😂 We should. I did read that Nightblood is on hold. I hope he eventually writes it. 1mo
Leniverse @Andrew65 @JacqMac I mean, I guess we have a few Cosmere books to occupy us while we wait 😂 1mo
Roary47 This book was awesome. I also didn‘t predict all these endings. Lightsong was so selfless. I was rooting for the God King and Siri. Now I need to hurry and catch up before our next check in. 1mo

Andrew65 @JacqMac Good progress tonight, got up to the start of Chapter 23. Thanks for the information on the book. Interesting section tonight, and still trying to work out what is going on. 2mo
Meshell1313 I am loving this one! I did not see that coming with Vivenna! Sanderson is still able to surprise me- you‘d think we‘d be used to it by now! 🤣 I am really curious how he is going to wrap this one up in the last section. I feel like as always I have more questions than answers. For instance- what do we think of Vasher? Where are his alliances? 1mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 There is something I have liked about Vasher since the very beginning. I can‘t quite say what it is, I just had this feeling that he was a good bad guy. lol 1mo
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 I totally agree about how Sanderson is still able to surprise! I‘m almost looking forward more to the re-read so that I can see how he lays the clues. 1mo
rabbitprincess @JacqMac I have a copy of The Way of Kings (which I think is the next book). Want me to figure out a chapter breakdown? (I will probably finish Warbreaker today lol) (edited) 1mo
Leniverse Ok, I just finished Hero of Ages, so I guess now I have a week to read all of Warbreaker? 😂 I'll try to do it in two 😅 1mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse it won‘t be a problem- it reads even faster than the first 3! Buckle up. 1mo
Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess yessss!! Exactly! That would be fun! 1mo
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I ordered a copy and I‘m hoping it arrives in time. But if not I‘ll let you know. Thanks. 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse It‘s a very quick read, even though it‘s huge. You can do it! lol 1mo
Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @Leniverse I agree it does read a lot quicker, I‘m just approaching halfway only having started it this week. (edited) 1mo
Leniverse Alright, I've reached the end of this section. I had thought that war was becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy: The more they did to avoid it, the more likely war became. But I didn't see that twist coming! I thought maybe Jewel would betray them. Anyway, lots of character growth all round here. I'm excited for the final part. @Andrew65 @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess @Roary47 1mo
Roary47 I just got The Way of The Kings at goodwill recently. I‘d love to read that series with everyone next. 😍 1mo

I couldnt put this down. It is ultimately a story about love and passion and grief. It‘s beautifully told, like an ancient dark fairytle. It would fit right into a book about a witch cooking children. Or an ugly sister who cuts off her toes. The cannibalism doesn‘t really take away from the fabulous story. I don‘t recommend trying to eat eggs while reading about sucking the meat off of freshly fried fingers. It‘s a lot gory right from page one.

Not my favorite St. James, but still really good. She tells such a great ghost story. They are always too creepy to read before bed. Also, weirdly, when I started dating my husband in the 90s, he drove a “Pontiac with a front seat like a sofa”. lol Another great read from @DebinHawaii and #AuldLangSpine

It‘s all starting to come together now. The girls make more sense to me. Also, I have a little crush on Lightsong. #CosmereBuddyRead.

Meshell1313 😂 yes! I keep hoping he‘ll end up with Siri! What do we think of the magic system? 2mo
Leniverse I've fallen so far behind! I'm still on the previous book. My Easter Crime reading hasn't helped. Fortunately this weekend will be the 24-hour readathon, and I intend to do a Cosmere binge. 😁 Am I right that this one is a standalone? Is it the same world, different era, or completely different? 2mo
See All 15 Comments
Meshell1313 @Leniverse oooh I‘m excited to see what you think of the ending of Hero of ages! This one I believe is a stand alone in the Cosmere world but I think the magic system makes it feel very different. But it‘s just as good- maybe even better. 2mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I love the magic system. Breath and colors is a genius idea. I like you aren‘t quite taking their soul, but you‘re taking their colors. You can picture a little piece of them missing. 2mo
JacqMac @Leniverse Yes, it‘s a standalone. Everyone and everything is different, yet it feels similar. Probably because it‘s the same universe. You‘ll see when you start reading. It‘s big, but I find it even harder to put down. I don‘t think you‘ll have any trouble catching up. 2mo
Leniverse @Meshell1313 @JacqMac I'm intrigued! Also curious as to what makes them the same world/universe. I'll make sure my kindle is fully charged for the weekend! 2mo
rabbitprincess I loooove that Lightsong seems to have been a detective or investigator in a previous life! My first thought was “Sweet, free murder mystery with my fantasy novel” 😂 His desire to seem indolent and frivolous reminds me a bit of Lord Peter Wimsey, but there is probably another detective out there who is a closer match. Maybe Columbo? 2mo
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I love his sarcasm so much. lol 2mo
Roary47 @rabbitprincess I agree I love the murder mystery detective side and really just Lightsong himself! He is such a fun character especially when he is with “Scoot”. I really like the God King and Siri‘s growing relationship and the mystery of why shortly after the heir is born the God King might die. What is really going on? I hope Siri and Lightsong are able to get to the bottom of it. 2mo
Andrew65 Finally catching up and starting this, now only 19 days behind 😂 2mo
Leniverse Lightsong is really growing on me, but Denth and Tonk are my favourite characters. I want to know more about Denth. Siri isn't the sharpest tool in the drawer but she's very young and I think she's doing well. It's funny how Viv is all "poor Siri she's so unequipped to deal with any of this" but really she's the one struggling to adapt, not Siri. @Andrew65 @Roary47 @rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse I think with everything she‘s dealing with and not having been prepared for this I think Siri is doing brilliantly, and I really like her character and the scenes with her in. Agree totally about Viv. 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse I love how strong Siri is. And I love watching her get smarter as the story progresses. You still have some surprises to come though. Sanderson is so good with the twists. 1mo
Roary47 @Leniverse I really didn‘t think about that when reading Viv‘s POV, but you are so right! 1mo

I am in love with this one already. Sanderson is so great with character development. I was thinking that he might keep the magical system somewhat the same for the whole universe, but I guess not. Just where does he come up with these ideas?
#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 At first I was sad to leave Elend and Vin! But now I‘m even more obsessed with Siri and Vivenna! I also expected the metal magic system but now this one involves colors? I‘m hooked! 2mo
rabbitprincess My skin was crawling for a good chunk of this first part at the idea of the king of Idris having to send a daughter to be a « vessel » to the God King ? the colour magic system is cool, though, and both Siri and Vivenna seem to be holding their own so far ?? 2mo
See All 10 Comments
JacqMac @rabbitprincess I do find it hard to believe that someone with a strong independent personality would react the way Siri did. I expected her to put up a fight or run away or something. But I guess we will see where it goes. 2mo
Roary47 I finally got through the first part, and I also am loving it! @rabbitprincess I agree with dreading one of the daughters being a “vessel” and also how she is even called this when she gets there. I really like the changing hair color like a mood ring, and there is deeper stories I‘m exciting to unfold. Hopefully, I can catch up so I can chat at the same time with everyone at our next checkin. 🥰 2mo
Leniverse Ok, this starts out like a twisted version of Beauty & the Beast. Or one of those fairytales where the bride can't look upon her husband at night for a year because of a curse. With zombie warriors and spiritual vampire Faraos. Looking forward to finding out which of the sisters Lightsong has been dreaming of (guaranteed to be one of them). @Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess @Roary47 1mo
Leniverse I'm also wondering why this and The Final Empire are considered to be part of the same universe. They seem like separate fantasy worlds to me. Different magic systems. Different sociopolitical systems, one mainly based on Western feudalism w/climate change, the other on Ancient Egypt. Both have living/human deities, and no standard fantasy creatures (dragons, elves etc) but that's the only commonality (so far). 1mo
Leniverse Oh, and another question I'm pondering. How did the guy with the sentient sword lose most but not all of Breath (as of the start of the Prologue)? That shouldn't be possible. He must have left some big Awakenings behind him somewhere and somewhen 🤔 1mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse yes I‘m also wondering if there were little Easter eggs or connections to the other books I might have missed? But oh boy your ideas are great and can‘t wait to see your thoughts at the end! 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse I‘m still wondering how they are all connected, too. I kind of hope some characters are going to pop up in some of the other books. 1mo

#CosmereBuddyRead

Meshell1313 Ok what do we think? Was it always supposed to be Sazed? I‘m not happy with the ending, but I‘m satisfied! Know what I mean? 2mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I mean, it makes sense that it‘s Sazed, so I‘m okay with it. But I really wasn‘t expecting it to be. Maybe I missed some clues. I think I might find myself rereading the whole trilogy one day. I think I might find things that I missed. 2mo
See All 15 Comments
Meshell1313 @JacqMac yes-like he was probably giving away all the clues if we only knew what to look out for! On to the next! 💕 2mo
rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 I totally know what you mean! @JacqMac I‘d be totally down to rereas the trilogy someday! 2mo
rabbitprincess I literally gasped out loud (on the bus 😅) at what happened to Elend, especially because of how directly and simply it was stated. I found Sanderson consistently good at that casual shock throughout the trilogy. High stakes, real consequences. But lovely moments too, like the flowers 😭😭😭 2mo
JacqMac @rabbitprincess Right? I love Sanderson‘s style. That was such a beautiful ending for Vin and Elend. 2mo
Andrew65 I got way behind due to life and some health issues. Trying to play catch up. Currently half way through Hero Of Ages and hope to be caught up before every one finishes War Breaker. 2mo
JacqMac @Andrew65 It‘s so annoying when life gets in the way. I‘m sure you‘ll catch up without a problem. 2mo
Andrew65 Finished the trilogy and moving onto WarBreaker today. 2mo
Leniverse @Meshell1313 @JacqMac @rabbitprincess @Andrew65 Ok, I had actually wondered if it would be a cyclical end of the world scenario. The world having to end so it can begin again. Because it was just so messed up, beyond repair. And I loved all the symbolism, including them all coming out of the holes in the ground like a rebirth in the end. So while I'm upset by all the character death, it made perfect sense. Continued ⤵️ 1mo
Leniverse As for who was the Hero of Ages, I remember a conversation in, I think the second book, about how maybe it was any number of people who could become the Hero. For a while I thought it was Elend, because he fit too. Including leading an army of allomancers to the Homeland. In the end it took all three of them to fulfill all the prophecies. A holy trinity of genders, if you like. 1mo
Andrew65 @Leniverse That‘s a very good point. 1mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse yes to everything you said! I kept thinking I wasn‘t happy but I was satisfied. 😂 great points about the symbolism of the ending! Love that! 1mo
JacqMac @Leniverse yes! The holy trinity. Perfect. 1mo

Leniverse Ok, I've just finished pt. 3, and no, Human being human I didn't see coming! What I did see coming a mile away was Yomen's trap. They told him what they were there for, so of course he set a trap! The identity of the local Mistborn was a surprise though! I have questions. Who does he work for? Is Spook influenced by Ruin or something else? Does Yomen only have the one ability? I guess I should read on 😅 @rabbitprincess @Meshell1313 @JacqMac 2mo

That was not where I saw this going. But wow, it was good. I have to give Sanderson some credit for his fight scenes. Usually they aren‘t my favorite part of a story, but he does them so well. Meshell1313 I do love that I always surprised!! So now that thing from the well is out? Crazy. And yes what is going on with Marsh- it‘s like he‘s possessed or something? I hope in book 3 we finally get some real answers instead of just more questions! 3mo
Meshell1313 Thanks for hosting such a fun buddy read- can‘t wait for the next! 3mo
Leniverse Finally caught up! My guess is that Marsh and the other Inquisitors are controlled by the same voice that told Zane to kill everyone but Vin. Zane only had one spike, so he wasn't completely under the Voice's control. Further guessing that the voice is the thing from the well. @Meshell1313 3mo

rabbitprincess Re Zane, I am so over men who think it‘s women‘s responsibility to save them from themselves. I consider that possible love triangle (Vin, Elend, Zane) satisfactorily resolved ? had to refrain from shouting “yesss!!!” out loud in public! (edited) 3mo
JacqMac @rabbitprincess yes! Hopefully, that‘s an end to that nonsense. lol 3mo
Meshell1313 @rabbitprincess couldn‘t agree more! 3mo
Meshell1313 @JacqMac ooh interesting theory!!!! 3mo
Leniverse I've only just finished this part. I became so frustrated with how so much drama could have been avoided if people just talked to each other instead of making assumptions, and how easy Vin was to manipulate. I just had to put the book away for a while. 3mo
Leniverse Vin came one short step away from going full Anakin. When Elend found her in the cubby hole and told her he was sure she'd had a good reason, I had painful flashbacks to Anakin telling Amadala about how he massacred a whole village. It was too uncomfortable to read on. But now that I have, I'm very relieved at how this part ended 😅 3mo

Mehso-so

Last Canada Reads book. I found this one hard to get through. I don‘t know if it was the fact that I didn‘t like any of the characters or the writing. I knew what she was trying to make me feel, but I was too annoyed to feel it. It‘s potentially a good story, I just don‘t think it‘s very well told. Overall, this year‘s selection was not my favorite. They all had some pretty major issues. Or maybe I just had some major issues with all of them.

Happy Tuesday! I can‘t wait to move on to the next part, because I really have no idea where this story is heading now. And I have some concerns.

Meshell1313 Yes ok soo we at least know who the journal belongs to but we still don‘t know who the imposter is? And do we talk about Vin and Zane? Ugh. 4mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 Vin and Zane are one of my concerns. lol 4mo

rabbitprincess I had a feeling that Elend would not be re-voted king but was not sure of who would replace him. So hurray for being ahead of a cliffhanger for once, sort of 😆 4mo
Leniverse @Meshell1313 I tried to keep track of who has been eliminated in the hunt for the imposter, and I wonder who I have forgotten. Or if it's going to be some nameless servant nobody ever notices. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4mo
JacqMac @Leniverse it‘s starting to look like it‘s someone insignificant. I‘m not sure if that disappoints me or not. 4mo
Leniverse Yeah, I'll be happy not to lose any more major characters, but at the same time it seems anticlimactic if it's someone we've not even met. And I don't trust Sanderson not to sucker punch us 😒 4mo

Pickpick

Might be my top pick for Canada Reads this year. The trauma and devastation this woman survived, yet the way she turned the pain into empathy and compassion, is the most exceptional show of defiance. “Even today, when I am grateful to lead a peaceful and happy life, there are moments when I feel anger, bitterness, and regret. But those feelings only make me miserable, and I don't want to live like that.” Not the best writing, but worth the read.

Happy Tuesday! Now I can read the next part. lol Just when I think he can‘t surprise me, he surprises me. I can‘t wait to hear what you all think about the reveal of the Watcher. I think I like where it‘s going.

Leniverse These cliffhangers are killing me! 😅 4mo

Leniverse I quite enjoyed learning more about how the Keepers use their powers. Especially how charging a metal mind doesn't have to be a hardship, it can be useful like making your body lighter for climbing or dulling your sense of smell when something reeks. 4mo
Meshell1313 Ok so now that we know who the watcher is- can Zane be persuaded to join their cause??? 4mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse I know! A coup!!!! Amazing! What will our heroes do now???? 4mo
Meshell1313 @JacqMac I agree with you about Sanderson- I often feel like I am being lulled into a false sense of security but then he‘ll do something to shock me! 4mo
Leniverse @Meshell1313 Regarding the Watcher, I just hope we don't end up in a YA style love triangle! 4mo
JacqMac @Leniverse I love and hate the cliffhangers. Lol I agree about the YA romance. I like that he has been keeping the romance to a minimum. 4mo
JacqMac @Meshell1313 I keep wondering which way Zane is going to go. 4mo
Meshell1313 @Leniverse @JacqMac totally agree! I‘m invested in Vin and Elend even though it‘s not the main focus of the story. I‘m finding the stories so unique- whenever I think I have it figured out he flips the switch! 4mo
rabbitprincess I totally agree that Sanderson has a way with cliffhangers! 4mo
