Having trouble nailing down a historical reference. Was there some precursor to night-vision goggles utilitized in the 1800s?!

Written in the early 1800s, I appreciate that the author was sensitive to the slaves‘ plight in #Venezuela.

Pickpick

My son is planning a thru-hike next summer on this trail and I‘ve taken a few backpacking adventures on the Appalachian Trail so I enjoyed learning about the Pacific Crest Trail and search & rescue. My son is looking at National Park and/or Forest careers and possibly search & rescue so it was a great way to explore what a career like this would look like. My heart breaks for the families of the missing.

Fascinating story of Mark, camping in the desert alone, who awakens to a powerful light that transports him to another time and place. Survival instincts compel him to defend himself and prove his strength.

I wasn't going to participate originally, because I didn't want to rack my brain for 80's pop songs, but I thought of a category I could narrow down enough, soundtrack scores 😁

🎷 Gabriel's Oboe by Ennio Morricone from The Mission
🐍 Theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark by John Williams
🦇 Theme from Batman (1989) by Danny Elfman

TheBookHippie John Williams is fantastic! 22h
CatLass007 I‘m not familiar with The Mission. Was it based on a book? I think you‘ve done an excellent job of narrowing down your category. I‘m fairly certain that if I started thinking of music from the 70s or 80s or any other decade, I‘d have those songs running through my head for the rest of the year. John Williams‘ Raiders of the Lost Ark theme is very memorable. But I remember very vividly sitting in the theater watching the maze that became (cont)⬇️ 22h
CatLass007 the Batman symbol and almost physically being pulled in by the music. Not long ago I was having a conversation with my brother about that scene and I said something about Seal singing Kiss from a Rose for the movie and he had no idea who or what I was talking about. Everyone thought Michael Keaton was going to be a terrible Batman, but he was fabulous! 22h

I've never met any authors in person. But I'm friends and talk on the phone with Garrett James, a new indie author whose books I have blurbed here on Litsy recently.

I'd love to meet Neil Gaiman. I own a few of his books, but they're still residing in my humongous TBR piles. Yeah, that's piles with an s.

I wish I could have met Nathaniel Hawthorne and Robert Louis Stevenson.

wanderinglynn Thanks for the tag! I‘d love to meet Neil Gaiman too. I got to hear him speak at Wolf Trap several years ago—I could listen to him talk for hours! 1d
