My husband and I started our anniversary weekend by doing some ghost hunting at Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana. It is a beautiful, peaceful place, but I did not get much sleep. 👻

My 8th independent bookstore visit for the #HTXBookCrawl24 was the pictured Baskets, Books & Art. It had a nice selection of poetry and international reads and features an art gallery on the 2nd floor.

The 6th independent bookstore I visited on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was Gulf Coast Cosmos Comics. It is the only comic store participating in the bookstore crawl and is literally just next door to Kindred Stories. The owner was so friendly. Plus, the store has different rooms to explore that includes the featured entertainment room.

I think I have quite a few things to be grateful this week:

1. Took a mental health day off of work to take a solo trip out of Houston
2. Explored bluebonnets in Ennis
3. Experienced the total solar eclipse
4. HTX bookstore crawl
5. Preparations for 24 hour readathon

I didn't even know this bookstore existed until I got the #HTXBookCrawl24 list. This place is amazing! At least 8 different rooms. They havr bargain books and also a 1st edition Frankenstein, which is slightly more 😉. Two bookstores down and quite a few to go.

KadaGul I was thinking 🤔 about how some parts of Texas promote visiting local bookstores, and it got me thinking 💭 about the Chicagoland area. I've only encountered McHenry County and a few libraries doing a Library Expedition/Crawl. I hope this trend catches on and we see more of these programs around here! #avidbooklover 2w

Started the #HTXBookCrawl24 by visiting Kaboom. Loved the owners and their puppy! Soooo many books. I will have to go back there when I have a lot more time....like 12 hours. Did walk out with "The Messiah of Stockholm". It took a lot of self-control to not buy a lot more, but I have many more stores to go to this month.

KadaGul @Morr_Books I love ❤️ the idea 💡 of a book crawl or Library 📚 Lovers Expedition as it helps build a community of book 📖 lovers. Last year, I did a few, and this year, I managed to complete 12 out of 14 libraries despite the distance 🛤️🛣️. Here is a link 🔗: https://www.clpl.org/library-lovers-expedition-2024/ 2w

I'm taking a long weekend, with Monday off, for self care reasons and planning to finish the tagged book for #Roll100 #76. I've never read it and have been intrigued lately when I saw some FB friends complaining about this being inappropriate for their kids to read in school. I'm 1/3 into it, and it seems fine for school reading to me. What am I missing?
@LitsyLove

TheBookHippie It gets complained about regularly and parents refuse to allow their kids to read it, due to it being too scary, violent and too diabolical … 2mo

eri.reads Sadly, there are some of the most sensitive parents I've seen out there who are raising extremely sensitive children. It's not many parents but just enough to cause chaos where there doesn't need to be any. Unfortunately, attacks on books are increasing and the first amendment is being stampeded all over. I just hope when I'm at an age to live peacefully in retirement things have changed for the better. There is always hope... 2mo

LiteraryinLawrence I used to teach this to 7th grade. There is a part later in the book that I assume is what people object to (I‘ll put it as a spoiler). 2mo
LiteraryinLawrence When the kids start to develop The Stirrings, which are sexual feelings, the society then has them take a pill to get rid of them and go back to their asexual and more governable selves. The main character describes how the stirrings feel and he has a minimally racy dream. That‘s it, as I remember. Well, in addition to depicting scenes of killing people which they describe in a euphemistic way. So yeah, there are things to object to. 2mo
