This one has been staring at me for over a week, waiting for me to dive in for @AllDebooks #rereadtheclassics #buddyread (except it‘s a first-time read for me!)

I‘ve been trying to clear the decks a bit by finishing my current chunkster (The Agony and the Ecstasy), but tonight I decided I‘d better get started! I‘m going in. Wish me luck. 😁

TheBookgeekFrau Whoa, that's a really big book 😳 2w
erzascarletbookgasm That looks about 5cm thick! Good luck 🍀💪 2w
HeatherBookNerd It‘s worth it! So so good! 2w

Bklover I think you‘ll enjoy it! The Agony and the Ecstasy is a chunkster too, isn‘t it?! 2w
AllDebooks The agony and the ecstasy is on my list too x 2w
Saknicole Enjoy! I liked the book quite a bit but sometimes a good movie taints my expectations on plot as this one did. Have you seen the movie? Swoon, so good! 2w
BarbaraJean @Bklover So far I‘m parceling it out at 25-30 pages a day, but I enjoyed last night‘s reading so much I‘m sure I‘ll be reading ahead before long! Agony is indeed quite the chunkster—660 pages in my edition! 2w
BarbaraJean @AllDebooks I‘m really enjoying The Agony and the Ecstasy! There are times that the writing feels a bit dated (written in the 1960s, I think), but it‘s fascinating and I keep having to put the book down to go look up pictures of his art as the narrative gets to the creation of each one! 2w
BarbaraJean @Saknicole I have seen the movie! So good! It‘s funny, because my husband tells me my issues with the plot of the movie should be addressed satisfactorily when I read the book 😆 2w

BarbaraJean I‘m looking forward to reading this for the first time! Is there a reading or discussion schedule for the buddy read? 4w
AllDebooks @BarbaraJean no, it's a pretty long read. I thought it best to read at your own pace. I'll post discussion threads on the 30th April. 😊 4w

@Crinoline_Laphroaig @Cuilin @nanuska_153 @MilesnMelodies

Cuilin A room is indoors, closed with walls, limited even boring. As a person it would be Cecil, as a society it‘s those that cling to old fashioned manners. A view outdoors is limitless, it‘s the Emerson‘s, it‘s a new generation willing to think and challenge. Such a clever title. 4w
AllDebooks @Cuilin great comment. It really is a clever title. I like the analogy of men having the "view" and women being enclosed by societal limitations 4w

George Emerson, am I right? 🤤

Still 40 pages to finish, but, yet again,my husband should be jealous of this one. Also, how badly hides Forster all these homoerotic situations? Clearly I'm as in love with George as Forster was! (And was as thirsty as him after seeing him with my imagination bathing and playing by the lake 😅)

AllDebooks 🤣🤣🤣😍 4w
Cuilin The bathing scene is completely homoerotic. I think he “outed” himself in his writing. Interesting considering he didn‘t want “Maurice” published till after his death. 4w
nanuska_153 @Cuilin I know, it's exactly what I thought too. Was even more shocking for me the fact that Cecil finally falls in love with Lucy when she describes him with Emerson's words and he falls in love with this "new person that speaks for her" and sees her as the perfect woman, so Emerson is the woman of his dreams? And me thinking "this is like when people didn't know that George Michael was gay" 4w
