This was so enthralling and wonderful to listen to. I highly recommend it. It has the weight and feel and Shakespeare, but the language is far more modern. The translator did an amazing job of keeping the rhythm of the original German poetry in the English.

This has been on my TBR since 2019. I started it after finishing Herod while donating plasma today. I‘m already 77% of the way through. It‘s fast paced. It‘s compelling. It has the feeling of Shakespeare, with far more modern English. This translation has done a marvellous job of keeping the rhythm of the original German poetry. 100% recommend so far. Would love to do this as a group read at some point. I just wanted to share this brilliance.

GingerAntics Thanks Dr. Quinn for putting this book on my radar! #Goethe #Faust #DrQuinnReadingList #poetry #play #classicliterature 6d

julesG Had to read and dissect/interpret it in school. Both parts. And, if course, we had to look at other works where a character struck a bargain with the devil. 5d
GingerAntics @julesG he is a German author, so that makes sense. Yeah, we get Shakespeare and if you were lucky, you MIGHT have been introduced to a little Mark Twain. That‘s about it. Everything else was modern. Then again, this is America. No one would stand for a man striking a bargain with the devil. It might corrupt the children. 🙄 (edited) 5d

julesG I think we read some Marlow too. Apart from Shakespeare. 4d
GingerAntics @julesG oooh I read some Marlow in grad school. I‘m trying to remember which ones now… 🤔 🧐 4d

I went to Audible looking for something else this morning and stumbled across this upcoming release. I tend to use the library or Serial Reader for most classics, but I also appreciate making the most of my credits with collections so I preordered. This collection featuring several narrators will be released in the middle of June.

Cuilin This is absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for sharing. Is it the same narrator for all novels or are there different narrators? 2mo
Daisey @Cuilin It includes multiple narrators, I‘ll go back and edit to include that. 2mo
Texreader Oooh thanks for sharing this!! 2mo

llwheeler Wow, how long must that audio be?? Definitely making the most of a credit! 2mo
Daisey @llwheeler It actually doesn‘t include a length yet. 🤷‍♀️ There is a 10 novel collection that is 264 hours. It used to be that I had audiobooks I could download in parts on Audible, but that doesn‘t seem to still be the case. This would be one where I‘d like to just download a novel at a time. 2mo
dabbe He only wrote 15 novels? 😳 I thought it was more like 100! 🤩 2mo
Daisey @dabbe It does seem like it sometimes when you‘re working your way through them! 😆 2mo

I have finally finished Middlemarch. I have had several attempts to complete this book..I just didn‘t engage with the characters at first. But as I read on the lives of the people in this small English town got to me…and it‘s described with words we just don‘t use anymore!!
Now for some John Boyne ❤️

Joseph doesn't care that I'm trying to read a large annotated edition. He needs my lap more than the book does, apparently. #dogsoflitsy
