I got to walk outside today because it was actually coolish. Firestarter is scary to me because it‘s really people that are the monsters; nothing supernatural really. Just people. As Dean Winchester succinctly said, “Demons, I get. People are crazy.” #audiowalk #LosersClub
I hate John Rainbird. These are all feelings I‘ve had before; I just forgot about them. #audiowalk #LosersClub
No pictures or map from my #audiowalk. It was in the gym and boring. I had forgotten how much I hate the Shop in Firestarter. Government agencies with bad intentions also hit a bit different now. New little baby that my daughter found and brought home when he barely had opened his eyes yet. His name is Moxy, and he‘s doing well now. We weren‘t sure at first if he‘d be okay. #LosersClub
It‘s been a long time since I read this; my copy has the original white cover with fire partially covering a little girl‘s face. As with most King books for #LosersClub, if I‘ve read it in print before, I‘m using the audio for this reread. So far I‘m liking the narrator. #audiowalk

Really enjoyed this story of Andy and his daughter, Charlie fleeing from “the shop”, a government agency that conducted tests using a drug in the late 60s on Andy and his wife, Vicky. Each obtained different abilities like telekinesis, mind domination, and pyrokinesis. Definitely worth the read! #psionic abilities
Second ever Steven King book. (audio). The story itself is neat; couple found each other during a government experiment had a kid who can create fires. Now they are running from said agency. What I did not like was how sexualized they made this 8 year old girl. Almost dnf‘ed because of that. Couldn‘t stand how those agents thought and reacted around her. Don‘t have much else to say because, that took over my perspective of the story from then on.
“By then all the available data had been coordinated into what Americans really seem to mean when they say they want “the news”—and what they really mean is “Tell me a story” and make sure it has a beginning, a middle, and some kind of ending.”

One of the first King novels I read - 1980s
Great premise, fabulous writing, but a bit too long IMO. Still enjoyed it though! Thanks for the rec, Scott - it didn‘t give me the heebie jeebies 😂 @vivastory
I love Stephen King, but this one was a bit rough for me. He had me hooked in the beginning and the middle… then it dwindled to this mediocre long winded time of boredom. Which I understand it was setting up for the big finale. But it was drawn out more than it probably should have been. Still a great book I‘m happy to have on my shelf!
Book #13 of 2023: “Firestarter” by Stephen King
An oldie from 1980, complete with an afterword about Cold War experiments with psi-ops. It‘s not one of my favorite King books but still engaging and a pretty quick read.
I was going to be good. My husband told me he was taking me to Barnes and Noble tomorrow for Mother's Day, so I wasn't planning on buying bookish things at Target. But I just couldn't help myself. 🤷♀️
🎧 A couple meets while participating in a government research program, walking away with special powers. They get married and have a little girl named Charlie with special powers of her own.
I enjoyed seeing Charlie‘s grow into her powers. It‘s a long cat & mouse game with Charlie and her father running from the government. The people they meet, those that help them, their incarceration and manipulation.
Good story.

Current reading 🤡 IT but very dark book and couldn‘t concentrate but thought try this depends on mood which of his books i can read . #libraryreserve #whatareyoureading This is my 3rd Steven king book to try read fairy tail , currently going between this and 🤡 IT
Though the plotting can feel jagged at times, this is still a very well-written work. We're given plenty of reasons to be invested in the fates of Charlie and her father, the tension never truly leaves the reader, and the insight into the inner workings of The Shop is fascinating. It serves as a sobering reminder of what our own government is capable of, what they have done in the past, and what they may yet do in the dark and distant future. 4/5

Not as scary as I usually like from King, and I prefer the larger cast of characters in other books. Other than that, this ticked all the boxes. I always fly through his books no matter how long they are. The creepiness in this is much more psychological than many of his other works I‘ve read. I‘ll never look at a kitchen sink garbage disposal the same, that‘s for sure… 😖 My heart broke for Charlie. I wanted to scoop her up and protect her.
Not my favourite from the Stephen King I've read so far, but still a pick.
I normally like the detail King packs in but this felt like it could have done with a deeper edit to me.
Pausing my spooky short story anthology to get started on this.
I wonder how long I'll wait for a sport coat reference 🤔
I'm not sure how to rate or review this. For reasons that I can't explain, this is the fifth book that I've read by Stephen King, even though I don't enjoy Stephen King. And this book is good...for Stephen King. So if you tend to enjoy his novels, maybe you should read this one...I guess?
Watched this one today and liked it more than I thought 🤣. I had very low expectations given the reviews and that probably helped. The book is still much better but was worth a watch I guess 🤷🏼♀️. #scarathlon #teamslaughter
This is my least liked by Stephen King so far. Most of it was a lot of science talk that went over my head. And also just talking and living. It was suppose to be horror/Thriller and I did not get any of that. You have a girl who can start fires with her mind, how did he miss the mark so badly? 1/5
Stephen King is always great. This is a story about a government experiment gone wrong and test subjects just trying to survive. The remains of a family with special abilities are on the run for their life. This really gives me Under The Dome type of feelings.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Every time I opened this book, The Prodigy song (same title) popped into my head, taking me back a couple of decades. If you don‘t know it, look it up! 🤘🏼 A “Lot 6” experiment eventually leads to a child born with a dangerous pyrokinetic power. Now, the government agency responsible wants her dead. Solid story, but too long-winded even though it‘s brief by King‘s standards. #bookclub
Now watching (for the first time) the '84 Firestarter adaptation featuring Barrymore as Charlie & David Keith as Andy. I've not watched the recent version featuring Zac Efron, but I've heard it's terrible. They should have cast Padalecki as McGee, as he has an uncanny resemblance to Keith! The book remains one of the most underrated King works & so far the original film is 🔥🔥
This reminds me of a cross between Carrie and The Dead Zone. Not as amazing as The Stand, but I really enjoyed it. I wanted the best for little Charlie McGee, I wanted the worst for the bad villain John Rainbird, and I adored Irv and Norma Manders, the farmers who wanted to live peacefully but were brought into the Big Government Secret because they were nice folks. I should rewatch the movie now.
Next up #readingStephenKing: Roadwork!
Reading outside as the sun goes down. 67 degrees and the birds are singing. Today was a beast of a day at work, but right now is pretty perfect.

Up next!! It has been five months since my last book by Stephen King. I‘m still reading them in chronological order in my #readingStephenKing project.
I‘m excited about this one!
Great book and truly frightening. It‘s not frightening so much because of Andy and Charlie‘s abilities but because of the twisted government that created them and wants to use them for their own use.
This was fine, entertaining at times but it was too long; felt dated & campy. The writing was a little off color, probably acceptable for the early 80‘s but I don‘t think it would get published today without some editing & polishing. A light pick. 🎉In non book news my niece qualified today and will skate at tomorrow‘s pairs long program. She has no chance to medal but her personal goal was to skate clean & advance and that‘s just what she did💕
Enjoying my King but….it‘s a little too long!!! Lately I find myself growing very impatient with books that are longer than 350 pages or more than 10 hours of audio time. Hoping to wrap this one up before the weekend starts.
Campy fun 🤩 Some low key 80‘s vibes and the ease of language from Stephen King.
#PoP22 #SetInThe80s or #AdaptationComingOutIn2022 can‘t decide which prompt I‘ll choose.
This book gripped me from the first page.
Andy and Vicky met at a scientific drug trial being administered by the US government. Neither of them knew what was being injected into them, they just knew that the 200$ volunteer fee was well needed.
No one considered that the fact that after the trial Andy and Vicky would start dating, go on to have Charlie, a baby girl with the ability to start fires.
Fabulous book!
Just started 🎧All I remember is young Drew Barrymore and her blazing red eyes 👀 #POP22 #BookSetInThe80s or #AdaptationComingOutIn2022 (remake with Zac Efron coming out May 2022)
Because 1 best of the year list isn't enough for all of the great books that I read this year I'm joining the #12Booksof2021 #January
Firestarter was literally my first read of the year & I think it's one of King's more underrated works.
@Andrew65
i‘m a big Stephen King fan, so i‘m always giving his books good reviews. this book wasn‘t any different. the beginning was a little boring and slow-paced, but if you have the patience to get past that i definitely reccomended it to fans of horror and gore.
Might be cheating since it's the same creator, but people who liked the movie/book Carrie might like the movie/book Firestarter. Both stories are about young girls with superpowers they don't really know how to control.

I am on a Stephen King kick!
