I‘ve been listening to this on my library app while at work. It had a slow start with a lot of different characters to keep track of and I almost wanted to bail. After four or so hours in, things are finally set in motion and I am enjoying the story now quite a bit, where I‘m halfway through now. What happens to the women when they fall asleep in the book reminds me a lot of what happens when people fell asleep in The Invasion.

TheNeverendingTBR Still not read this, how was it? 1y
lucifare @TheNeverendingTBR It has a fairly slow start, it follows the perspective of several different people so the build into the story felt almost too slow but it picks up and was worth the read. I definitely recommend it, it was thought provoking and interesting, but not as creepy as I was expecting. 1y

The Shining | Stephen King
post image

I grew up watching this movie and loving it but like the very legitimate cliche, the book was better. There was so much more going on that the movie didn‘t touch on and while maybe some parts were a little slow, I almost didn‘t want the book to be finished. I finished listening to The Shining last week on my library app and I only wish I had read this sooner.

lydiadeetz31 Look for the shining mini series that came out in the 90's....it follows the book more and it was filmed at the hotel that inspired the book. Really good! 1y
lucifare @lydiadeetz31 Oh thank you for suggesting that! I will check it out and see if I can watch it, that sounds awesome! 1y

I liked the idea of this book but as I listened to it at work I just found myself rolling my eyes, over and over again and being impatient. I think I would have enjoyed this book much more if the modern character‘s timeline had been omitted and it just stayed set into the late 1700s switching between the other two female characters.

I‘m a huge fantasy nerd so I loved this one just as much, and was able to read through it much faster than the first. It‘s helped keep me afloat the last several days so I‘m very thankful that there are two more 800 page books left in the series.

I hated reading this. I appreciate her openness and honesty with her struggles with mental health, but I found myself mostly agitated, resentful and irritated with her. I finished the book only out of stubbornness but I really would not recommend this to anyone who might be on the edge with their mental health. It‘s set me off into a very severe depression cycle.

CuriousG I tried to read this one and bailed because it was triggering me too 2y

When I was visiting my sister in Fairbanks they were in the process of moving the bus to the museum and we were able to catch a glimpse of it from the side of the road. I enjoyed the book and the romanticism of his ideals of nature but am glad the bus has been moved to help reduce the number of deaths and rescues of people trying to recreate his experience.

After lugging this around from move to move for the last ten years I finally have sat down and read it! It took me some time to get into it, I thought it began a little slow and I didn‘t immediately like the main character. I quickly changed my mind, and this had almost everything I love about a classic fantasy novel. Looking forward to finishing the series!

This has been a really rough year for me, and it didn‘t really come as a surprise when I went to the doctor yesterday and found out my breathing trouble was caused by covid. I‘m actually sort of surprised it took this long to get it because I get sick very easily. In any case, my bed rest yesterday allowed me to completely finish this book and it was exactly what I needed to read and take to heart.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery. 💕 2y

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Hey friend! There is a belated bday package headed your way. The post office said it would take 4-8 weeks, so it might be super belated. 😬😊 2y
lucifare @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Hey there! You didn‘t have to send me a bday package but thank you so much! I ended up moving to a different apartment last month but i will get the package no problem. I am sorry I haven‘t written in so long, this year is kicking my ass. I still am planning a VERY belated bday package for you as well 😊😊 and I will have my new address included too. I hope you are safe and well! 2y

Another BOTM my sister picked out, I did thoroughly enjoy. Knowing someone personally who has gone through the trauma of becoming paralyzed in an accident, it sat with me heavy. This was an inspiring book to me, of facing our futures head on with what we have and finding the moments that help make things worth doing.

I initially thought it had a slow start, and since my sister said it was her favorite BOTM I was determined to not like it, lol! I was however quickly sucked in and couldn‘t put this down so I definitely enjoyed it.

lucifare @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Yes that sounds great! Now if only I can time my packages right! 😂 What are some of your favorite colors, and also your favorite things to eat/drink when it‘s really cold out? Just trying to collect some ideas! 😊 3y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I did get your package btw! Thank you. I'm just a little behind on posts & letters. Also customs tends to mess up the best of intentions, at least it has for me anyways. 3y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego To answer your questions I like blue & purple, but if it's Xmas related then red, green, gold & silver. Hot Chocolate & wine. Soup for food. Hopefully that might help ya. 🎅🏼 3y

Choke: A Novel | Chuck Palahniuk
Mehso-so

I forgot to take a picture when I finished this book last week. I really wanted to give it a pick, and honestly, if I had read it at any other time in my life, I probably would have enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the person who recommended the book to me broke my heart a couple weeks ago. They said it was their favorite book in the world, so all I could do was picture him as the main character. My view was skewed from the start.

lucifare I'm definitely going to have to reread it some day down the road! 4y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Hey friend! Are you still moving in April? If I send you something soon will your mail be forwarded, or do you have a new address I can send to? Thx 💌😊 4y

Looking forward to my next read! My sister and I are no longer doing The Book of the Month club due to financial circumstances, but I hope we can rejoin soon! Now I must catch up on all the months I got behind!
For this year my goal is finish a book each month, and hopefully that number will grow as the year progresses! I am determined to not let my depression get in the way of my love of books.

When I was younger I was an avid reader, spending every spare second I could peering into countless novels. Over the years depression and exhaustion took hold and I read less and less. Last year I didn't read a single book. I know that we are at the end of April but I want this year to be different. Already I've read one book, so now I start my second, with hope. 🌸

RaimeyGallant We have had similar journeys when it comes to reading, I think. :) 5y
