Cosmos_Moon I love this book! Never saw this cover. 2d
Lindy @Cinfhen It happens to all of us. Sometimes I can tell that it‘s just the wrong time for me to be reading a particular book, usually to do with my mood and external things in my life. But when that happens, I don‘t tend to return to the book later to try it again. 🤷‍♀️ 2d
Cinfhen So true @Lindy 💕 2d
squirrelbrain I have this on my shelf to read…. 1d

This book primarily evokes life on campus in the 70s and the repercussions that spiralled out following a tragic event.

It's not necessarily a bad book, but it completely failed to seduce me. The characters bored me stiff and I didn't like any of them.

Not for me, sadly.

RaeLovesToRead @squirrelbrain I wish I could DNF 😔 I just can't seem to do it! But yes, another prompt down - I'm very behind on my challenge as usual 😅 1w
Cinfhen Too bad it wasn‘t a pick but at least you ticked off a challenge 🙌🏻😁 1w
RaeLovesToRead @Cinfhen Only 44 more left to go 😁😁😁 1w
squirrelbrain I *very* rarely bail on a book either. Maybe we should start a support group?! 1w
RaeLovesToRead @squirrelbrain The why-did-I-spend-£8.99-and-hours-of-my-life-on-this support group?! I am IN! 😄😋 1w

Last review! Finished this novella today. Interesting job, having a pet grooming store in an airport. I put this on my TBR because of the Summer Reading Guide. 2 different narrators. They meet at the airport and Ollie becomes Benny‘s muse to his latest romance novel.

I didn‘t really care for this one but it was a 3 hr listen and I‘m using for #pop22 ~ a book about witches and #booked2022 ~ about sisters

Cinfhen Well that‘s a big bonus!!! #DoubleDip 1w
Megabooks I liked the movie more. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1w
Kimberlone This book is the perfect example of the movie being better, and the other books in the series also being better. I was soooo underwhelmed by this book (after loving the movie since it came out) and then I was totally blown away by the prequel books. 1w
Cortg @Kimberlone Interesting! I can‘t say I‘ll continue with the series, but that‘s good to know. I think this is the 1st Alice Hoffman book I‘ve read. 1w
Cortg @Megabooks @Kimberlone I haven‘t watched the movie but decided on the book because a friend was chatting about finding it on TV recently and how much she enjoyed it. Maybe I‘ll check out the movie, we‘ll see 😃 1w

Novic has a message, an important one. She calls out to the hearing world to stand with the Deaf community, and fight for their self-governance, dignity and the value of human diversity before the effects of educational isolation and genetic manipulation are irreversible.
How little did I know! I loved to learn about Deaf culture but the fiction storyline was distracting. The MCs felt cliché, their relationships flat and unfinished.

#CampLitsy

squirrelbrain Great review Barbara! Looking forward to our #camplitsy discussions at the weekend! 2w
Cinfhen Such a great review!!! You‘ve put into words EXACTLY how I‘m feeling about this book. THANKS xxx 2w

BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I‘m glad to hear that. I was afraid I‘d be the only one not just loving this book. It felt flat at times despite its importance 🤷🏻‍♀️ I think @Suet624 felt so too. (edited) 2w
Laughterhp Yes, I did feel unsatisfied with the ending too. It just ended. 2w
Megabooks Great review! I felt the ending was a bit unfinished the first time I read it (haven‘t finished my reread), but I really connected with this book. I always seem to connect better with books set geographically near me. Maybe that‘s odd, but perhaps I feel like I can read more into the characters than a book set abroad or even in NYC. 🤔🤷🏻‍♀️ 2w
sarahbarnes Great review. Just started this one. I will be interested to see how it goes. 2w
Cinfhen I know what you mean, Barbara. I‘ve only seen GLOWING five star reviews and I kept thinking, shit I must be an awful person because this book is really just ok. I TOTALLY agree, that the subject matter is OUTSTANDING and I‘m really being educated on deaf culture but the plot 🙄VERY YA 2w
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I understand that, though I don‘t feel that way myself. I am mostly bored by people looking too much like myself - it makes me feel I am highly unoriginal 🤣 2w
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I am curious to see where you‘ll end up, we so often feel the same about books. 2w
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Yes! That‘s it! 2w
Suet624 Great review, as usual, stating what was special about the book but also succinctly outlining the drawback. So glad we're on the same wavelength with this one. 2w
batsy Great review! I'm not done yet but you've outlined exactly what I like and don't like about this book so far. 2w
BarbaraBB I‘m glad I‘m in good company 😉😘 @batsy (edited) 2w

I found myself completely immersed in a lot this novel of interconnected stories of a post climate plague world. Lovely writing and imagery, quite arresting at times. Full of compassion and a surprising amount of hope, here and there. But as I often feel, some stories spoke to more than others, and the success overall is often tainted by the stories I DON‘T connect with. The story ‘City of laughter‘ stood out for me. #pop22 #manmadedisaster

Megabooks Insightful review! I connected with CoL too. 💜 2w
squirrelbrain Really insightful review! It seemed as though a lot of people lost their connection with this book in the second half, due to a few of the stories not being as meaningful. 2w
Cinfhen Fantastic review! I agree with everything you wrote 💗 2w
Cortg These types of books are always hit or miss for me. 2w

Definitely not my usual thing but that‘s the joy of challenges! There‘s a secret magical library with a strange manipulative competition between the ‘Six‘. Too much world-building, magicy stuff for me, but I did enjoy following the chess-like moves and POVs of each of the six chosen to protect and learn at the library. I love a #DarkAcademia vibe, and the complexity of characters kept me engaged. No.2 of the #duology due in Oct. #pop22 #booked2022

Cinfhen Well done 👍🏻 3w
squirrelbrain Great review! I was going to read this one for this prompt, (I think @trishb recommended it - or at least C did! 🤣) but went with this instead… 3w
TrishB @squirrelbrain definitely C - it‘s one of her fave books. I have the special edition of the second one on order! 3w

Megabooks I‘ve been wondering what to do with the duology. Great review! 3w
KarenUK @Megabooks it‘s one the hardest challenges I think! Particularly when I‘m not a fantasy reader usually! So many duologies are in that genre. This was a #doubledip for two challenges, so I decided to give it a go! The audio is full cast and really well done. 3w
Cortg Way to keep an open mind! Congrats on finishing a non-favorite genre 🥳 3w
BarbaraBB It sounds fun! 3w

I skim-read most of this book as it's very slow.

2 ⭐

Using it for #sthelena #ReadingAfrica2022 @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB (would also work for #egypt - & you wouldn't have to complete the book to get there😂).

Also #pop22 #titlebeginswithletterofpreviousread @Cinfhen @4thhouseontheleft @Kalalalatja @Laughterhp @Megabooks @KarenUK @squirrelbrain @RaeLovesToRead

Cinfhen Yeah, every once in awhile a real dud turns up for a challenge 🙄at least it covered a few challenges 🙌🏻💜 3w
BarbaraBB Smart choice nevertheless 🤣 3w
Librarybelle I see Litsy has this at 944 pages! That‘s a pretty in depth biography, and I would imagine very dry. 3w

The kittens are now bigger than a book! They are growing so fast. #catsoflitsy #MonaLisa #kittensoflitsy

I didn‘t know a lot about this book going in, which I think is a good thing. This collection of stories, all interconnected in some way, examine the effect of a virus released from the melting Arctic permafrost, and it‘s devastating impact around the world. I can‘t wait to discuss the 2nd half in a few days with #CampLitsy.

squirrelbrain Gosh, that little cutie is growing so fast! Looking forward to your thoughts at the weekend. 3w
squirrelbrain Ooh, and didn‘t think about that #pop22 prompt - thanks! 😁 3w
