I like this historical mystery series with a midwife and police officer solving a crime together.

wanderinglynn You‘re up late! 2d

tpixie That‘s a fun mystery duo! 2d

Chrissyreadit @wanderinglynn this weather has everything hurting and exhausted- I fell asleep from 3 ish to 8pm then was up until about 1. My body feels like it was hit by a truck #arthritisstinks I wish my joints would stay in their sockets too. 2d
Chrissyreadit @tpixie there are about 18 books in this series now- I‘m glad I found it. When it‘s hard to focus from pain and I need to study, these are fast easy reads I can put down and pick up. 2d
Chrissyreadit @RaeLovesToRead I agree! The cover of this book is great- and very atmospheric of the storyline too. 2d
wanderinglynn Oh no! I‘m so sorry. I hope the weather clears & you are pain-free soon 💚 2d
tpixie @Chrissyreadit certain weather is horrible for the joints!! I‘m so sorry you are suffering now. My father-in-law would tell you to drink Knox gelatin ( which is derived from collagen) and take omega-3 fatty acid! 2d
Chrissyreadit @tpixie I do take a plant based Omega3, and have to go back to turmeric- sometimes I forget to take stuff….. 😘😘😘 2d
tpixie @Chrissyreadit I always keep meaning to take turmeric and keep forgetting!! Do you know how much you‘re supposed to take? 2d
Chrissyreadit @tpixie I take the Jarrow formula of curcumin 95 on Amazon and take 2-4 a day, but have taken as many as 6 a day- and felt more relief than pain medicine (I was prescribed methotrexate 5-6 years ago and was horribly sick from it- turmeric was much better) I literally forget to take it when I‘m feeling better. I also like turmeric tea- which will be today‘s beverage of choice. 2d

I‘m on a mission thanks to tik tok- do any of you know of books that take place circa 536 AD (the worst year to be alive)? This is the only book I found…. But I AM FASCINATED! Also @sblbooks I thought of you- this is the epitome of all disasters- two volcanic eruptions, bubonic plague, mass famine, no sunlight …. I desperately want to know how the survivors survived!!! @Bookzombie @Reggie @vivastory I think this would make an amazing horror book.

vivastory This sounds so fascinating! Thanks for the tag, will definitely be checking it out 📚 2d
sblbooks I have never read any books about that year. I did watch a documentary about it though. I subscribe to the weird History Channel on YouTube, here is the link. https://youtu.be/s3YTfhJmh1I 2d
Reggie I know, I was just at a family dollar and they had their seeds on sale and I thought, if a zombie apocalypse broke out I would go there and steal their seeds. But I probably wouldn‘t survive and hopefully whoever checked our house for supplies would run across those seeds and use them to feed whomever. Fin. Lol @vivastory @Bookzombie 2d
See All 10 Comments
Chrissyreadit @sblbooks ohhh thank you! I‘m going to watch now! 2d
Bookzombie I don‘t recall reading anything set during this time or about it, but it sounds horrifically fascinating. @Reggie You make me smile! I too think about what I would do during a zombie apocalypse at times. I probably wouldn‘t survive either. Partly due to Rule #1: Cardio. 😂 2d
Reggie @Bookzombie 😁I‘m right there with you, Margie. 2d
Chrissyreadit @Bookzombie @Reggie just to be abundantly honest, my son has made it clear that in a zombie apocalypse he‘s glad I will be slow- to distract and feed zombies while he runs. 2d

I read this for #foodandlit #egypt and chose it after listening to the A Strong Sense Of Place podcast. It was not what I expected. It takes place over three timelines in Egypt regarding a Jewish scroll. The temple has hired a Muslim watchman for 1,000 years. The job has been inherited. It‘s a pick, because the writing is good, and the storylines flow, but it was not my favorite story/book.

This line/interpretation (for reference Henry and Catherine‘s marriage) really bothers me. I agree JA is often poking fun at Mrs Bennet, but there is a genuine affection between the two. And Mr. Bennet is not without his faults. But most of all without their marriage we would not have the Bennet sisters and our beloved Elizabeth. I do believe that JA knew that some odd matches were necessary to balance personalities. #pemberlittens

wanderinglynn I agree. I can see why a younger Mr. Bennett would‘be been interested in Mrs. Bennett. Besides, we must consider that most marriages at that time weren‘t love matches. People married for economic/social reasons, not love. But as you point out, Mr. Bennett does seem, at least at a minimum, fond of his wife. I think Lisa Kleypas captures marriage perfectly in her books—people married as a business arrangement & then found love elsewhere. 4d
Larkken I think it depends on interpretation, and how biting one feels the satire needs to be. I adore the BBC miniseries and its interpretation of the Bennetts is def funny, but there is something about the Knightley adaptation, where it shows them with obvious affection, that grows on me ( when I'm not in the mood to be judgemental, that is!). 3d
Verity Mr B definitely not without his faults, but I have always felt that they didn‘t know each other well enough when they married and he maybe thought he‘d got a bit carried away. Mrs B is definitely where Lydia gets it from and you can see that being exciting and fun when you‘re young, but exhausting when you live with it for decades 3d

I read this for a new type of book club at my local library. It will be my first time participating in any live book club in 30 years. Not sure if it will be attended or not- But- I‘m glad I read this book that shares a complex perspective- what happens to your life when your brother kills someone? And it‘s a small town…and everyone knows your family and the person he killed family. I thought the author did a really good job with a YA version.

KaylaCReviews This sounds like a poignant read. What a horrible situation, but a thought-provoking plot. I'll have to put it on my to-read list. 6d

Is anyone else following the Wheel of the Year? Wondering how you celebrate Imbolc? I‘m hoping to celebrate by going on a hike, and planning my Garden. I am finding it fun to form traditions based in nature. Also fun fact- my name was almost Brigid. I‘m still mad my parents didn‘t use it. 🤣tagging a few people who may celebrate but hoping anyone will join in.

wanderinglynn That sounds like a great plan. 👍🏻❤️ 2w
TheBookHippie Oh my friend does this! I‘ll ask her! FYI Christine is because of school Sunshine is the original moniker for me 🤫🌞 2w

Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie yes some people make a straw figure, or Brígida cross. 2w
Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie I could see you as a Sunshine 😘 2w
TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit One of the members of our teaching non religious homeschool coop does this -I remember the straw dolls and walk in the woods by a stream and tea and a fire? PreCOVID … had to wear very bright colors and I think something green? It seems so long ago!!! 2w
Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie I‘m figuring it out- I made a plan to spend as much time in nature as possible and it feels easy to pair hikes or “special” outdoor times with the wheel of the year 2w
TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit She did a lot of fun outdoor things -she taught us a dance once I forgot what it was for, but it was seasonal 🤞🏻 we return to gatherings someday… it was so wonderful to learn from all the different ways people live. 2w
sprainedbrain I like to have a fire outside if the weather cooperates on the night of the 1st (I am quite fond of my fires lol), if not candles in every room. Everything revolves around my kitchen, and for Imbolc I like to make bannock or pancakes, and always try to get outside for a walk in the daytime. ❤️ 2w
DGRachel I‘m just starting to dip my toe into these kinds of celebrations. I just grabbed this book for ideas. 💖 2w
bthegood @Chrissyreadit I have a Brigida cross in my home - thanks for posting and reminding me - make a great day ⭐ 2w
Moonprismpower I don‘t celebrate. I appreciate you tag so I can see all the comments! 2w
julesG I used to celebrate, but with kids, tight schedules, yada yada... I've only really been doing Winter Solstice the past years. Thanks for the reminder, I'll restart observing the wheel this year. 2w
ElizaMarie I love seeing your journey into nature. It is very inspiring and makes me want to also work on being more “one“ with nature, myself, and calmness. So, thank you! Also, that book looks super interesting! 2w
Clare-Dragonfly I try to celebrate many of the Wheel of the Year holidays! I‘ll definitely do something for Imbolc, as Brigid is one of the goddesses I‘m devoted to—though I‘m not sure what, yet. 2w
GingerAntics I follow them, but not always actively out in nature. It depends on the weather and stuff. I have found a wonderful woman on insight timer hee does meditations for the whole wheel of the year, so that‘s become a fun tradition for me the last year or so. Insight timer is free too, so if you‘re interested, check it out. 1w
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie wait, you were named Sunshine? That‘s just awesome!!! 1w
slategreyskies @hissingpotatoes I saw this post and thought of you! :) 1w
slategreyskies I don‘t have anything planned for Imbolc yet, but maybe I‘ll come up with something. I haven‘t celebrated Imbolc yet. I‘ve mostly been drawn to Samhain and Yule, but I‘d like to practice more in other times of the year too. 1w
hissingpotatoes @slategreyskies I'm planning to plant a bunch of indoor herbs/plants, and I'm working with a friend to reinvigorate my flowerbeds with native plants! 🌱 🌿 (edited) 1w

Yes I‘m binging- (thanks to @DebinHawaii ) I have no regrets cause a girls gotta read what a girls gotta read. Ok maybe a few regrets cause there‘s a stack of books waiting for me- and I regret not being a speed reader 🤣 but this series is just fun. And makes my face smile and shoulders relax .

mabell I‘ve heard good things about that fruit! I‘ll have to seek it out. It‘s been years since I‘ve had steamed buns. I really liked them, but they have to be just right on consistency, temperature, amount of filling, etc. 4w
mabell Pretty quiet! Rich delicious food. 😊 But it‘s raining today, and my family 2 hours north are getting snow. 😭 4w
Chrissyreadit @mabell these were plain, no filling. Raining here too. 4w

Things I discovered: I have doubles I did not know about…2. I have a lot of books I want to drop everything and read.
3. I need to organize my shelves.
Also: I‘m going to try hard to not buy any books for myself until these are all read. #roll100

ElizaMarie Good luck with this! 4w

Ruthiella Take it step/challenge at a time maybe? We readers love our books but they can also overwhelm. ❤️ 4w

Perfect for 12-3AM when I needed a fast HEA read to get over worry about clients (clearly my boundaries were not as strong as usual) enemies to lovers- sort of kind of reminded me of Pride Of The Peacock, but not gothic, no mystery and mostly likable characters. Thanks @monalyisha for supplying the escape via #jolabokaflod.

@sprainedbrain these are not cozy mysteries but for me they are go to series that I love, and can be formulaic, have a little will they/won‘t they and I can‘t wait for the next book. I have not read After Cilmeri in years- but it‘s up there with the other two. @Laughterhp these are some go to series for me.

sprainedbrain A murder in time was already on my Chrissy recs shelf! 😂 1mo
Laughterhp I‘ve read Murder in time, but never continued with the series. I‘ll have to check out the other 2! 4w
Chrissyreadit @Mitch and I think these are the two you added? Footsteps in time is not a cozy, just fun. But the other two are so so good. 4d

#top21in21 I still have 1 or 2 books to read (maybe try for 3) but here are my favorites- and for me these were all 5 star reads! But tbh this was a good reading year- everything else I read was 3-4 stars with the exception of 2 books. Also story graph is being glitchy as I try to log and I have read 95 books so far!!! That‘s crazy cause it feels like I never have time to read! Thanks for the tags @Liz_M and @Laughterhp anyone else interested?

@megnews thanks for the tag! I have to admit this was a good reading year- no pans and only 2 so-so‘s. One was Witchy, I wanted to love it- but it just felt poorly fleshed out. ##worstof21
Anyone else want to share books they do not recommend?

Bookishgal71 For me, Medical Medium by Anthony William. Just too far-fetched for me. Would be a great foundation for a supernatural fiction but not believable as a medical non-fiction read. 1mo

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Perfect read for a cozy stay under blankets Day, with murder, secret passages and questionable side characters. Anyone and everyone is suspect but the residents are not sure of what they suspect, only that a ghost may not be a ghost. Also my November #bookspin
