Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal:they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.It Happened at the Ball...Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely "the thing." And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat. It Happened in the GardenWhen Marcus shockingly -- and dangerouslyswept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existedthank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!It Happened One Autumn...Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitableas his bride?

It is safe to say I am now a fan of Lisa Kleypas 😊

My romance book club has read a couple of her books and I particularly adored this one.

Lillian, her sister, and two other friends consider themselves wallflowers.

When Lillian spends way too much money on a vial of perfume that promises to attract her true love, the girls decide to put it to the test.

I am already scrambling for a copy of the next in the series which is rare for me.

wanderinglynn I love Lisa Kleypas and I love this series—my fave out of the 4 is 1y
jdiehr @wanderinglynn Yes! That's the one I can't wait to get my hands on! 1y
wanderinglynn I also love her Ravenels series, which is how I discovered her. I randomly stumbled upon Marrying Winterborne in my library. That series starts with 1y
jdiehr @wanderinglynn Duly noted! Thank you 🙂 I am pretty new to the romance genre 1y
wanderinglynn If you need other romance recs, let me know. I‘ve dived hard into romance genre these last few Covid years. It‘s a nice respite from reality because we all need a HEA! 1y

Finally finished my re-listen - I‘ve been listening to it off and on for months: I kept having to return it and wait for it - I did this so often Libby shortened the borrowing time - it is probably the fact that this is a very fun historical romance read by one of the best voices in the business and is justifiably popular with Libby borrowers that changed the analytics.

By now you know I usually post about children's lit. My mom is on my Amazon account and occasionally highlights by accident. It's really cute.

I finished all the Ravenel books and now I‘m starting her Wallflowers series. I really enjoy Lisa Kleypas‘s books. Always a good romance and this one has quite a bit of action too.

Scochrane26 Have you read Sherry Thomas‘ romance books (pre-lady Sherlock series) yet? 3y
wanderinglynn @Scochrane26 no I haven‘t. 3y
Scochrane26 @wanderinglynn I really like most of them. They can be a little harder to find. 3y
wanderinglynn @Scochrane26 I just checked—my library has the Lady Sherlock series and her Elemental Trilogy, but that‘s it. 3y

Liked this one. Don‘t think it‘s my favorite Kleypas but still a page turner. Been reading this one for awhile and feels good to be done. I might get another bingo who knows😂 #bookspinbingo

I can't believe I never finished Kleypas's Wallflowers series. Not sure how it happened, but since I've been enjoying the Ravenels I thought I'd go back and fix my egregious lack!

I love that Lillian just wants to be herself, a bit hoydenish but unequivocally her own independent spirit.

Ugh, the moment when you think you have 20 pages left and it‘s a preview for a book you‘ve already read.

That‘s what keeps happening to me while reading the Wallflowers series. This romance was fun and enjoyable. Honestly I‘m really looking forward to the next one more. Evie and St. Vincent! Mostly because I‘ve seen reference to them in other Lisa Kleypas books!

Lillian wasn‘t my favorite. I liked hearing more about Annabelle and Simon 💚

Nessavamusic Evie & St. Vincent are my favorites! Enjoy!! 5y

This book is set up using sexual assault (the “hero” continuing to kiss her after she says no and tries to push him away several times), culminates in rape (the heroine is explicitly too drunk to consent), and uses abduction and threat of rape as the tool to get the “hero” to realize he loves her. The guy who abducted and threatened to rape her is set up to be the hero of the next book. Sexy? No. And I won‘t be reading any more of these either.

I did enjoy this more than the first of the Wallflowers series though I'm not jumping to go on to book 3 - the villain is quite obviously set up to be the next hero and he did some shit that's hard to stomach.

I do enjoy Kleypas' historical romances but the one thing that always keeps me from fully enjoying is that the heroes can be alphaholes at times. I always get a lingering mental image of Gaston in front of Belle's house with a wedding party and chuckling over "now just need to propose to the bride!"

And on top of my beloved love-hate trope, there's a cross old lady tossed in the mix ❤️. Enjoying this one a lot.

Just starting the second Wallflowers book! I'm a sucker for love-hate tropes and was most interested by Lillian in the first book so I have high hopes.

Reread. Really enjoyed rereading this, I adored the chemistry between Lillian and Marcus, and I had forgotten how it ended with St Vincent, so that was a nice surprise to build to the next book (I LOVE a good villain turned hero romance).

Day 5 of #Riotgrams: Bookish Tattoo. Romance has helped me through so much that it only felt right to make things permanent.

Shoutout to Lisa Kleypas for starting this whole mess.

I'm enjoying this series - and I adore Kleypas - but I'm so done with the swarthy alpha man and the heroine with ivory or porcelain skin. Is there something inherently more masculine about a tan? I'm also rather over the calloused male hands vs silky/satiny female skin. I get that contrast is interesting but it's significantly less so when so many books use the same set of contrasts. Hrmph. /end rant
