My daughter went back to school this morning for the first time since late March so I get my reading time back - yay! I can get my book schedule back on track - yay! I've been waiting for this moment for so long - yay!

So why do i feel so ... empty? 😢

Suddenly schedules and totals and targets and lists and plans don't matter at all.

And I bet she's not even remotely missing me like I'm missing her ... 😭

Joanne1 Tough! I can totally relate. My kids have been in and out (mostly out) of school since April I think. We‘ve just found out they‘ll be going back in a month. I‘m so happy, but also worried. 4y

readingjedi @Joanne1 Yeah, it's a stressful situation all round. I'm happy that she's back with her pals but here in the UK cases of Covid are spiking again & I'm not 100% at ease with it all. 4y

katy4peas Here in Iowa, USA we are the hottest spot in the country and are still not shut down. The gov refuses to pass a mask mandate and our numbers have never gone down. The schools are now in a lawsuit with the gov over how many days can be online for them to count towards actual school days. It is a horrible mess. The schools that have started have shut back down and are quarantined and (god forbid!) we don‘t have our sports so those are still going 🔽 (edited) 4y

Joanne1 @katy4peas that‘s sound awful and so terribly stressful. I‘m in Victoria, Australia. We‘ve had two periods of shut down, the second because of a second wave, and my kids have sent more time doing remote online learning than at school. It‘s frustrating in some ways, but I‘m ever grateful that our government has chosen to protect the community‘s health over the economy. I hope things get better soon where you are!! 4y

Well, two of the biggest things that happened during my school days were my dad winning a truck from the local grocery and my college‘s basketball team winning the national championship. TV always took a backseat to socializing (and studying) then, just as it takes a backseat to reading now. The only show I can always remember watching from 1991 to like 2003 was The Real World, which probably explains my love for reality TV today! #back2school

I think Pedro put a relatable face on gay men and the ADIS epidemic in middle America (aka where I live) in a way that hadn‘t been done before. Ryan White lived in the next state, and I think he broke some barriers, but he was a child and got it the “right way” (transfusion as opposed to sex). This is back when reality TV could be groundbreaking in a profound way. 4y

As I don't have any photos to hand I thought I'd post the books I remember having to read in High School. I hated them all. There was also a book about people dying of radiation sickness in the aftermath of nuclear war - it gave me nightmares and I've completely blanked out its name. We also did some plays and poetry which I liked a lot more than the novels.

MsMelissa Grapes of Wrath, 1984, and Lord of the Flies were on my required reading list in high school, too. I liked all three. I also had to read several of Shakespeare‘s plays, which I didn‘t like so much 😂 4y

Day two of been back in work fulltime and I am loving it 😍 So good to be back and although we're only in bubbles of 15, it is still very busy! All our nursery, reception, year 1 and year 6 have returned. Very lucky to work in a school that is so kind and caring. Management have made it really safe for us all and the parents and children have been fab!
Really want to finish a book today as my reading has been very slow 🙃

MsMelissa Yay! I‘m glad everything is going well. The school year wraps up on Wed here, but who knows what will happen in Sept. It will all depend on how the summer goes, I guess. My daughter just wants to go back to a classroom setting. Online learning has not gone well here at all. 4y

Back to school and I already feel a little overwhelmed as I get back in the swing of it. The only reading I‘ve been doing is with my textbooks. Registered for fall at my local community college! I dropped out of my 4 year school I went to right after high school (I graduated in 2007) because of lots of reasons. But I finally decided to pull the trigger and go back! I‘ll only be taking one or two classes a semester since we‘re paying out of pocket and I don‘t want to get overwhelmed balancing my school, my son‘s school, the dog, the husband, and the house but I‘m very excited!

baes Way to go! I decided to go back to school at 32 years old with two kids. I‘m now in my second year with a 4.0. I do mostly online but I take some in person too. It has its challenges but being an adult makes you take things more seriously. I never did this well at 18-22 when I attempted college before...(I tried 2x). Good-luck! 5y

AndreaReads @tpixie Nothing too special. I did a Back to School Station Rotation and one of the stations the students had to write on post-its what they thought a perfect classroom looked like, a perfect student looked like, and what were the characteristics of an excellent teacher. It led to some good discussion, and I‘ll leave it up a while as a reference as we become more familiar with our class rules/procedures. 6y

My yiungest first day of kindergarden ( so first day of school ever) but the overworked register lady only got one out of four into the system. It took us all last night and this morning to fet him pumpped for school, only to be turned away. Worst first day of school ever 6y

britt_brooke @MommyOfTwo Yes, it‘s pretty early. They get about 9 weeks of summer (they get out right before Memorial Day), 1 week fall break, 2 weeks at xmas, 1 week spring break. It has worked out well as he is more than ready to go back, but summer went quickly! 6y

TEArificbooks My school growing up was always mid August to mid May and now that is my boys schedule too. We start back next Monday, get the whole thanksgiving week off, 2 weeks Christmas and spring break off. 6y

britt_brooke @mdm139 Very similar to our schedule. I like having the much-needed breaks throughout the school year. My son was beyond ready to go back. 6y

Melissa_J I hated Finite! It was the only math OAC I took, and only had to take it because a math OAC was required to get in to U of T. I sucked at it big time. And I suffered through it for no reason since I decided to go to Queen‘s instead of U o T 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y

TheKidUpstairs @Melissa_J I can't believe you went to Queen's, too! That's crazy. I was a Drama major (this was before their fancy, gorgeous new theatre building. We shared a building with the Theological College). I WISH I had done a semester or a year at Herstmonceux, that must have been an awesome experience! 6y

I‘m going to back to school soon and spent the day putting together a cozy study spot. I found the desk at Target for $10 on clearance! I spent way more than that on accessories. 😂 Also, I‘m super mature.
