I ended up inhaling over half of this today. It's very much food for thought that we have less privacy in law than we used to: in Scotland, now, you can be prosecuted for private speech in your own living room. It's surprising how ambivalent and unsure I feel about some of this.
Definitely gonna sit with it a bit before I write a full review.
This was one of my #10BeforeTheEnd; 5/10 now read.

I‘m a little late for my own challenge! 😂 I‘ve settled on my pile of possibilities. Super pleased that some work for other prompts.
1. “Unnatural Causes“
2. “A Fatal Grace” #OhCanada
3. “Crime at Black Dudley” #HashtagBrigade
4. “The Mystery of the Yellow Room”
5. “Poirot‘s Early Cases”
6. “Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead” #Roll100
7. “Six Wakes”
8. “Follow Her Home”.
9. “The Quincunx” #10beforetheend

This was so engaging, informative and accessible. Each chapter focuses on something in particular from periods to labour to menopause and the future. Medical history is interwoven with personal stories/experiences. It‘s very inclusive and thoroughly researched. I feel informed after reading it, if only my brain could retain all the info 😅 #10beforetheend #diseaseofthemonthbookclub

#10beforetheend update:
I read, & very much enjoyed Botchan. Considered a classic in Japan, it made me laugh & although it is not a point for point comparison to Catcher in the Rye, it had not a phoney vibes.
Will definitely be listening to The Running Man on audio this week.
Planning to slot the Highsmith in during murder Holidays.
Definitely want to read the Clark story collection (loved Penance) & ideally I will finish the Indian Lake (Cont)

Poe,my reading buddy tonight. ❤️🐾#10BeforetheEnd #37by37
Loving this memoir (tagged book).

Pretty sure this would just depress the hell out of me.

Ahhh, this is pretty perfect. It rounds off the whole story beautifully.
I guess the only thing to dislike is that of course Tianchi turns out not to be disabled after all: his muteness is caused by a poison, which can be cured, at which point he learns to speak. There's also a scene where Li Yu seems to treat being disabled like a bad thing, telling the kids that Tianchi isn't “different“, he's just sick. It's... hm. But given the context...
