Nina Willner tells the incredible true story of two Jewish boys —one of them her father, Eddie —who miraculously escaped after 3 years in various Nazi death camps and found their way to rescue by a company of U.S. Army 3rd Armored Division tankers. It‘s a truly remarkable story of perseverance and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of inhumanity and depravity.

During early Puritan America until the end of the 18th century, “ bundling”, a custom in which couples were “ bundled” separately in cloths & permitted to spend nights together in bed, parental approval was common. It was thought that this practice would create lasting relationships & ultimately marriage.
I am having so@much fun learning about the sexual mores & practices in 17th, 18th & 19th centuries. #NFNovember #TodayILearned #NFN

The idea for Frankenstein came to Shelley during a ghost story competition with her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and John Polidori during the cold summer of 1816. #TodayILearned #NFN

#TodayILearned that hot peppers were not used in European, African or Asian cuisines before the 16th century. Even though I had known that chili peppers came from the Americas, I somehow didn't clue in, since I've enjoyed so many hot spicy foods from Indian, Korean and other cuisines!

TEArificbooks Same with tomatoes. And for years Europeans wouldn‘t eat them cause they are from the nightshade family. And what amazing dishes they created with tomatoes. 🍅 3w
kwmg40 @TEArificbooks I hadn't thought of tomatoes, but you're absolutely right! It's such a staple in so many cuisines around the world these days. 3w

It‘s so dark out I thought it was time for #hyggehour but actually it was 6:15. I guess I am supersizing my hygge time tonight! I‘m looking at some cookbooks and am going to catch up on #NFN and my bookclub reading. I‘m feeling confident about my ability to fit 5 days of work into 2 days this week.

TheBookHippie I thought the same thing. 🤣🫣🤷🏻‍♀️ 3w

Lichens take nutrients from the air and so absorb many times more radioactive isotopes than other plants. #TodayILearned #NFN

ImperfectCJ I remember that lichens are a major food source for caribou in winter...I wonder how this absorption of radioactive isotopes affects the caribou? 3w

Mehso-so

A detailed —or rather, overly detailed — memoir. (Ex. 100 pages in, Cher is still only 15 years old.) Some interesting tidbits here and there, but way too much about her clothes. I feel like I learned about every dress, pair of shoes, crop top and bell-bottomed jeans she ever wore. Probably won‘t read part 2. (Or 3? How many of these are on tap?)

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a Litsy find I picked up after seeing @TEArificbooks post about it. Lovely memoir weaving together the pieces together timeline of the unexpected death of the author‘s husband while they were apart, and her sojourn to Flinders Island three years later when she finally stopped to grieve and heal. #nfn #nonfictionnovember
