Sarum: The Novel of England | Edward Rutherfurd
post image

#gratefulreads #Day2 There‘s no doubt that my #preferredgenre is historical fiction. I love historical mysteries, too, and historical romances are fun, but give me a #chunkster saga and I‘m happy. This is one of my all time favorites, that I first read in 1993. I know that because it was one of the few books we took with us to Prague.

Ubookquitous Rutherfurd is one of the few out there writing these tomes that span hundreds of years or more! Love it 1mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love HF too!! 1mo
Lynnsoprano @ubookquitous I got started early with the Michener books, which led naturally to Rutherfurd. 1mo

Ladyval05 Oh, my goodness! I remember seeing that cover a long time ago. It was my mom‘s book, but I don‘t remember if I read it. 1mo

tdrosebud I really liked this book, I need to read more Rutherfurd. 1mo
Andrew65 I love historical sagas too. 1mo
Lynnsoprano @tdrosebud @Andrew65 I find Rutherford‘s books to be very uneven. Some, like Sarum, Russka, and Paris, are fantastic. Some, like London, are snoozers. And there are some that I‘ve liked but hubby panned (and we‘re usually on the same wavelength). I find it really interesting, because I rarely have such wildly fluctuating opinions about an author‘s work. 1mo
Ubookquitous @Lynnsoprano LOL me too! Michener‘ The Covenant opened up a whole world I knew nothing of 1mo
Lynnsoprano @Ubookquitous The Covenant and The Source had so much influence on me. 1mo

#GratefulReads #Day2 #favoritegenre
This soooo challenged me as I could not choose one favorite genre. So here is my top favorites:
📚historical fiction
📚books about books, both fiction & non-fiction.
📚mystery- but not thrillers (scary nightmares) both short story & novels.
📚 historical or political non-fiction.

#Movember #day2 #Music Music is almost as important to me as reading. My taste in music is just as eclectic as my reading, I love classical right through to heavy metal. I grew up first listening to 70s heavy rock from my brothers, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, then 80s pop, Madonna, Prince, 90s grunge, Nirvana, RHCP then the 00s, Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams. My heart belongs to Jeff Buckley, but lately I find myself back to the 70s a lot, Bowie & the Stones

vivastory Great post! I also have eclectic tastes in music. Although I tend to gravitate towards contemporary alt rock I love classical (wrote a paper in school about Tchaikovsky, who I found fascinating), jazz, early blues, 70s rock (T-Rex, David Bowie) etc 1mo

#7Days7Covers #CoverLove #CoverCrush #Day2 #Singapore

Issues one (front) and two (back) of this graphic novel about ordinary life in Singapore.

I know we aren't supposed to explain, but this is a drawing of an HDB - one of the public housing blocks that 80% of Singaporeans live in (they own the units - which they buy at a subsidized rate from the government).
