A mini #bookhaul from the remainders/discount bookstore. I was super excited to find these as 3 out of 4 were on my wishlist for years.

Clockwise from top L:
1) Stream System - Collected Short Fiction of Gerald Murnane
2) Territory of Light - Yuko Tsushima (I think the cover is pretty but it doesn't show up well in the pic)
3) Looking for Mr Goodbar - Judith Rossner
4) The Fortnight in September - R.C. Sherriff

Tamra The Sherriff is 💙💙 1mo
batsy @Tamra Was so thrilled to find it having seen lots of Litsy love for it 😊 1mo
Ruthiella I loved A Fortnight in September-such a gentle story. I read Mr Goodbar in the last century. Good but disturbing, as I remember. 1mo

batsy @Ruthiella I've heard that about Mr Goodbar! Apparently it was also made into a movie with Diane Keaton. 1mo
LeahBergen I think you‘ll love A Fortnight. And I read Mr Goodbar back in the last century, too, @Ruthiella 😆 1mo
marleed I loved A Fortnight. In case you aren‘t aware of its origins, I think it enhances the reading experience to know when and how the book was written. 1mo
batsy @LeahBergen Fortnight seems to be quite universally loved 🙂 1mo
batsy @marleed Don't know too much about it, but thanks for the tip. Will look it up before I start reading! 1mo
Cathythoughts Nice haul. I‘m going to look up Territory of Light. ♥️ 1mo
batsy @Cathythoughts Thanks 😘 I've heard lots of good things about Territory, so I'm hoping it is 🤞🏾 1mo

Thanks for the tag @BarbaraBB this is my #Top23of23 ! I downloaded a new photo app on my phone that somehow doesn't go up to 23 grids (doesn't it understand our Litsy needs?!) so I gave up on the photo collage 😆 And I feel bad for not including the translators above. 2023 was a fantastic reading year 💜 I even had to leave out so many, like the Edith Wharton rereads & some of the Furrowed Middlebrow & Golden Age mystery club titles that I liked.

I thought I must be a lay librarian but I'm afraid it's verged into tsundoku master territory. Although I do think I've read most of them (don't make me count). Where do you fit? Link to article in comments.

ravenlee I‘m so far into tsundoku territory I can‘t even see lay librarian from here...and I‘m good. 3y
ValerieAndBooks Having at least 500 books seems very low to become a tsundoku master 😂. That might be most of us on Litsy 😊 . 3y
See All 8 Comments
BookNAround The article doesn‘t offer this option but according to the number on my LibraryThing account, I‘m the tsundoku master of tsundoku masters. 😂 3y
ImperfectCJ I'm pretty sure I'm a lay librarian, but I'm a little afraid to count and find out for sure. 3y
Avanders Well into tsundoku master land... 📚📚📚📚📚 3y
Liz_M Of course a tsundoku master. Also, why does this categorization assume the books are unread? I have read 66.1% of my collection. 3y
Hooked_on_books Fun article! I‘m totally a tsundoku master by book number, but I also keep very few books after reading them, as I am largely not a rereader. So I have elements of several of these descriptions, as I suspect we all do. 3y

Trying to sort out my October reading...

Spooky month so want to read ALL of the spooky books.

#Victober & I love Victorian novels & I want to read ALL of Victorian lit.

The Tempest is so interesting for #ShakespeareReadAlong & want to read ALL of the Tempest retellings while it's fresh in my mind.

The Secret Commonwealth comes out & I want to reread the trilogy & FINALLY get around to Book of Dust.

So clearly I'll read none of these 🤣

Cathythoughts 😂 Scary 😱😂I just got this one on my kindle - Litsy recommendation- sounds good too 5y

My friend and I have coined a new phrase/portmanteau.

Her: "I want to go to Barnes and Noble but need no more books."

I said we could go to browse and just be around the books and the book atmosphere. Also - I have a coupon.

So we decided that we will go, and we will call it "book bathing" or "tsundoku-yoku" - a play on shinrin-yoku (Japanese therapy of forest bathing) and tsundoku (piles of unread books).

#tsundokuyoku #bookbathing #bookstore

I was at the bookshop & is December is the most *intense* month for parents & children? 😅 There was a mother firmly telling her son that there is only X amount of money to spend on books & he had to choose which book he really wanted. He had a look of PURE ANGUISH on his face. I totally relate, kid. And I'm sorry to say, the anguish doesn't lessen even after you grow up & earn $$. Still can't afford ALL of the books 😭 Stay strong, lil' reader

KatDowney Found that word mysteriously written on the white board at work. I wonder if it was a personal attack😂🙈 I definitely accumulate books faster than I can read them but my intentions are always to read all the books💜 6y

Amateurs.

TrishB 😂😂 I have brought that many this week!! 6y
Prairiegirl_reading Whenever I see this I think add a zero and then we‘re getting started. 🤣 6y
Mollyanna I was thinking the same thing... Only 20? 🤣🤣🤣 6y

When you go to check some bookish accounts on Twitter to add more books to your TBR and get called out 😂

Suzze All the time. 6y
Trashcanman My TBR will outlive me, that is a certainty. 6y
TrishB But they all just wait patiently 😁 6y

Kalalalatja Me, everytime I get a new book 😂😂😂 6y
Cathythoughts Oh yes!!!! What are we like 🙄😂 6y
Lindy This is usually true for me, but I bought a book on Thursday to give as a gift and started reading it in the bookstore while waiting to pay for it and now I cannot stop reading it: 6y
batsy @Cathythoughts Buying more books than we can read, surreptitiously taking pics of our books... Sounds like we're Littens 😂❤️ 6y
batsy @Lindy That one is on my TBR! It sounds complex and like it would speak to me... So I definitely hope to get to it sooner rather than later 😉 6y
Lindy @batsy I‘ve laughed out loud twice. So good! 6y
Centique On this same train of thought ... I seem to be spending all my reading time today rearranging my TBR into themes. I think making lists of books might be my REAL hobby, rather than reading itself!! 😂😂 6y
batsy @Centique Hahaha, that is too funny! Themed TBR! Now you've given me an idea on what I should do after I've added more books to the wishlist 😂😂 6y
Suet624 That is hysterical and so true. Only a bookaholic would understand how sweet and delicious it is to hoard books. 6y

Stopped at the Brattle Bookshop and one other used bookstore in #Boston yesterday 😊 #brattlebookshop

You know you‘re a book person when your job is working with books and then you go see more books on your days off. 😂

I was doing so well getting through my library pile, but then I went to return a stack of books. And it occurred to me: This week is the end of term. The kids will be on Easter break for over two weeks. What if the weather is really bad, and we run out of books while the library is closed for Easter? 🙀 So I filled my backpack. I should probably go back at least once more this week, just in case. Right? #LibraryHaul #NoSuchThingAsTooManyBooks

Bambolina_81 Absolutely! You never know...😊 7y
jpmcwisemorgan Absolutely! 7y
Zelma I think that is a smart plan, not a book problem. 👍👍 7y

This is from today's guardian. The thought of this will keep me going after all my not so happy medical tests. But on has to keep on and not lose hope.

I read this article today and learned there is a name for our "affliction": Bibliomania ??

http://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/bibliomania-the-dark-desire-for-books-that-...

ReadingOver50 Really interesting article 7y
MarriedtoMrT @ReadingOver50 I thought so, too! And while I understand the prestige of books due to their value I hope for some, especially the librarian, it was about the books themselves -- not to excuse stealing or bankrupting ones family but I understand the emotional high that can come from books.
